Great aircraft, no manual so: T/O 36.5" full RPM, tail up after 40 kts, Climb: 30"/2000 rpm, speed 120 kts, Cruise: 28"/1850 rpm lean to max rpm or about 25 on the fuel burn gauge, it will give you 150 kts, approach 90kts and always a wheel landing, keep the tail up as long as possible because otherwise the rudders are ineffective. The aircraft is light on the controls so that is true to the real plane, hope this helps...by the way if you want to end your flight very quickly try opening a side window in flight...😂

I really wish Asobo would prioritize getting the scenery gateway finished. There are thousands of people who would happily submit landmarks I'm sure from smaller areas that will likely never be done by Asobo themselves. All they would need is a little control at their end to make sure submitted landmarks meet a quality and appearance standard and let the community fill in the world.
@LowkeyHundo2 жыл бұрын
Only problem with that is there’s the risk of submissions having hidden back door entries coded into the actual files, or hidden malware, etc. Asobo would have to assess and safely ensure each submission isn’t a risk to the infrastructure, which would be time consuming.
@JohnMichaelson2 жыл бұрын
@@LowkeyHundo Has that really been a big problem in the flight sim community in past scenery libraries? I mean how do you hide malware in some 3d model files?
@Karibanu2 жыл бұрын
Are they not doing some sort of google warehouse equivalent anyway? and if scenery files can contain backdoors then this is software that has no right to be on anyone's PC. Aircraft are a different thting - scenery & animations should be data & drive parts of the game. Vandalism is probably a bigger worry.
@IntotheBlueSimulations2 жыл бұрын
I actually wasn't even aware this was in the works John, but it does indeed sound like an area Asobo would be well served to focus their efforts on (short term pain, but a long term gain)! Quality control might be tricky, but otherwise it seems like it would be a great way of freeing up Asobo's resources (I gather X-Plane does something somewhat similar). All the best! : )
@JohnMichaelson2 жыл бұрын
@@IntotheBlueSimulations That's my understanding of what it was meant to be. In a perfect world they would examine the submissions and perhaps bundle them to release with each world update. Ideally they would get included with the streamed layer because after a while the sheer numbers of submissions would have the potential to become a real disk space hog.

You can have the best graphics and visuals in the sim but if your sounds are bad it totally ruins the immersion. Looks like more Carenado shovelware as usual. As a former Beechcraft mechanic, mainly Bonanzas and Barons at the service center in Tampa, we did occasionally get in an 18 freight dog early in my career. That boost pump is entirely too loud and the engines are too quiet, especially at takeoff power. Unless they are “simulating” wearing ANC headphones but I doubt that with the boost pump. Anyhow, great video as always. Keep up the good work.

Yeah it's a strange one with Carenado; they have a couple of aircraft that sound rather nice and then a couple of addons where the sounds just fall flat (the Beech 18 somewhat being one of them unfortunately). The overly loud fuel pump reminds me of the M20R when that released. It may be that they're trying to simulate headphones as you say, but even then I would argue that they shouldn't be, since there is already an option for that in the sim (and I like my engines nice and loud haha). Thanks very much for the feedback! All the best : )

Yeah, it's a Carenado plane, i wouldn't keep my breath for quick fixes, if any. They don't really maintain their addons, they just convert their FSX stuff and dump them on the market, and forget about it. I'm not even making it up, in the files of the Beech 18 there's a folder made by the free FSX converter the community has been using to convert FSX planes since release. They don't even seem to build them from their own original files but convert them and fix the odd conversion problems and upscale the textures. To be fair their PBR textures are very, very good.

Hi Terry! I suspect the aircraft will get an update or two, but I would be surprised if it was anything more than a bug fixing exercise sadly. Very nice video as always. When I was in the service, I flew a few times with a grizzled old colonel, and as soon as the wheels were in the wells, he would invariably look down at the ground and say "I wonder what the poor people are doing today". GREAT flight Captain. The passangers can now enjoy their wine & cheese at The Vineyard. If you are into the vintage aircraft, this certainly is a good one. I am amazed that with those big radials, when they fire, there is NO vibration in the aircraft?? A small thing but on take off, I never see the wheels spinning so do you have to "tap" the brakes?? Was looking forward the the cruising music and was not dissapointed! !! !!!

Haha, that’s one area I did have to dock Carenado a few points - for not providing the wine and cheese ; ) Yes, as is generally the case in the sim, a little bit of “life” lacking in the aircraft (no vibration, no smoke etc), but at $15 it’s hard to complain about too much. I actually took the Beech 18 on another outing yesterday using FSRealistic and that spruced things up a little bit. The recording tool I use has a little bug, that basically keeps the brakes on all the time - hence why the wheels always stop spinning immediately on takeoff. In reality, it’s generally good practice to apply the brakes (on a GA aircraft), just to stop mud, FOD etc being thrown around inside the wheel well after retraction. Glad you enjoyed the music and indeed the video! Thanks as always : )

That weird tail-lifting behavior when cycling the prop during the engine run up is actually the same as something I've encountered with the BeeGee. That makes me think it's a Carenado quirk, but I don't recall the Staggerwing having that problem, though I didn't fly that one as much. Still, it's a very interesting example of the divergent physics of "MSFS World" and I'm very curious to figure out what causes it. I'm wondering if it isn't an issue of the new prop airflow physics under specific situations causing unusual airflow. (I'm currently presuming the Beechcraft uses the new prop physics because you can feather the props, though I haven't gotten a chance to look under the hood to confirm that's really what's happening.) That said, while the flight model and systems were not quite as good as the best of Carenado's offerings, I still think it is easily "as good as default airplanes or better" and the texturing and model are honestly next level. The way they did the old painted metal in the cockpit is just astonishing. Not the most exciting plane to fly if you want to feel yourself fighting the wind or if you want to break a sweat managing the systems, but it is a great airplane to fly when you want to do something straightforward to fly and great to look at to make a narrative video etc. Also, the star windows above the pilot and copilot seats invite interesting navigational possibilities. As I've always said, I don't hold other devs to Carenado's graphic standards, so I don't hold Carenado to other devs systems and flight model standards, and when it comes to Carenado's graphics, I honestly feel that this is the best they've done yet. Also, I have to say, as an American who enjoys flying around America, I'm actually 100% with you on wanting other parts of the world to get more attention first. I have actually thought that the world updates are all great, and I'm amazed that we're getting this stuff for free. Free is important to me because I already sold all my spare internal organs to pay for P3D scenery. But unfortunately, I feel like it's really only exacerbating the unevenness in the sim. The US and Western Europe were already the best done regions in the default sim. They are also the regions that have gotten the most payware content. And they are also the regions that have gotten the most high quality freeware content. And while I understand that there's a solid logic behind "give the people what they want" / "Improve where people fly the most" but part of it also creates a feedback loop. Places that are neglected will get fewer flights. Places that are given good scenery will get more. I've definitely been flying more in Italy than I ever have in any sim before, because the world update is great. But by the same token, I would fly a lot more in China and India, places I actually work, if the sim weren't so atrocious there. I was working with my brother using the sim to survey areas of Kachin State in Myanmar where he's done research, and it was a great way to explore satellite imagery and terrain data, until you discover that 2/3 of Kachin State is actually sloppy patchwork of painted farmland rather than actual satellite images because Bing couldn't be bothered to get updated satellite photos of the country and the one time they did, half the country was overcast. The coolest thing about this sim is that it can give us the entire world. This is where I think Asobo has been really shrewd with Local Legends and Famous Flyers - introducing airplanes that are often too obscure to get much 3rd party attention, and would never be in the sim otherwise, while leaving the more obvious low hanging fruit to the large modding / 3p community. I wish at some point they would start doing the same with the world updates, because there are amazing swaths of Latin America, Africa, and Asia that really would shine if given a little polish.
@IntotheBlueSimulations2 жыл бұрын
Hi Austin, Well it's the first time I've noticed such behavior myself, but I wouldn't be shocked to hear that it's some sort of Carenado quirk haha. I actually doubt that Carenado will have used the new prop physics - probably going into a bit more detail than they are generally looking to offer ha. They've actually had prop feathering figured out almost since day 1 (better than some other devs in fairness to Carenado!) but only in a visual sense. I don't have time to dig into the issue myself, but let me know if you find anything. As you say, Carenado have their strengths and they play to those extremely well. Their products aren't to everyone's tastes, but I think they offer reasonable value for money and personally I generally always enjoy taking their aircraft up for a bit of a scenic tour etc. I don't think another US update was unreasonable, given the demographics of the sim and the fact that the first US update was a bit sub-par by more recent standards, but there are indeed many other countries I would love to see get some care and attention (New Zealand being my own personal number 1). Still, I'm sure if we're patient, there will be plenty more to come ; ) Cheers and all the best once again : )
@ouyangwulong2 жыл бұрын
@@IntotheBlueSimulations interesting on the prop feathering. I honestly didn't fly much of the earlier Carenado planes - disliked the 182, liked the Mooney well enough, but both all were supplanted by the Just Flight planes coming out. If it's just a visual effect that would make sense for how it doesn't really impact performance / handling, and would thus improve my overall impression of the new prop physics. New Zealand would be a lot of fun, and it would actually be really great if they did some of the nearby islands (like Norfolk, Raoul, Chatham, Antipodes, etc.) because I've now done more than my fair share of ocean flying, and it's really fun to have the monotony of blue sky and blue sea broken up by an island you never gave much thought to before, but suddenly is the most interesting thing in that moment. Then I fly down to take a look and explore and find it is basically un-rendered. It seems like it wouldn't be too much to give these islands a bit of terrain and satellite updates, and it would really play to the strength of the sim, letting you truly explore and discover. (For example, fixing the Faroe Islands in the Nordics update really made crossing the north Atlantic a lot more fun.)

The sounds could definitely be better (although bear in mind I did have to turn them down somewhat, for the sake of the video) and there are other issues with the aircraft also. I'm not sure what might have caused that graphical issue. It may be that recording tool is to blame, or it might be something to do with the Beech 18's rather floaty behavior during the takeoff and the landing. Cheers and all the best! : )

We must have different planes. In mine, I cannot make the plane trim out for more than 10 seconds, then it tends to stand on its nose. And mine is MUCH more floaty in ground effect, unstable in all axes, often getting sideways while still accelerating. On the ground, the tailwheel often gets stuck in the ground so it's a pain taxiing and especially turning.
@IntotheBlueSimulations2 жыл бұрын
Hmmm, that is odd Bullet. It’s not a Legacy / Modern flight model issue per chance? I found trim to be just fine, ground effect was pretty bad on mine also (although it sounds like yours is worse. . .), stability was pretty reasonable and no issues etc with getting sideways - other than on landing. I’ve had that tailwheel behaviour on other addons; didn’t notice it here, but then I didn’t make any particularly sharp turns during the taxi. Other than the sim’s flight model options, I can’t think what would be causing such a disparity. . . I hope you manage to figure something out. All the best!

No IMHO. The Boing 247, with all its bugs and problems, is a much better plane.
@IntotheBlueSimulations2 жыл бұрын
Hi Michael, I would broadly have to agree with Ala13. As is almost always the case with flight sim addons, neither aircraft gets things perfectly right, but the B247 is the better investment overall (I think / hope). The Beech 18 wins on looks / modelling / texturing (and arguably on avionics), but that’s about it. The B247 is a much more thorough recreation of the aircraft and the systems modelling etc is incomparable to Carenado’s efforts. The weaknesses of the B247; the sounds aren’t great and it has quite a few issues currently. The 247’s engine fail far too easily in my opinion and it’s almost impossible to manage them properly, since quite a few of the gauges are bugged. IF (and I think they will) Wing42 fix up the 247, then it will be head and tails above the Beech 18 (and therefore the better investment) - a little bit of a punt currently though of course. Right now I’m enjoying the Beech 18 a little more, since I can actually get it from A to B without anything catching fire haha (though damage can be turned off in the 247 to be fair) XD I hope that helps a little? My fuel boost pump screams nonstop. For my first flight, it was possible to snap it off, but with following flights it's been jammed to ON no matter what I click. Any tips please?!? Another grouse is with the autopilot and it's inability to capture and follow the flight plan. Took off today and for reasons I couldn't fathom, the AP would not engage after liftoff....and flight plan wouldn't get followed no matter that I was on GPS and Nav holds.

Hi Kokoete, Hmm I not sure why that might be, I haven't experienced that bug myself. I did see someone else post that by turning one of the battery masters off (I can't remember which one), that will kill the fuel pump. So that's a possible backup solution for now I suppose. I think the autopilot is pretty buggy. It has worked ok for me in HDG / ALT hold thus far, but I haven't had much luck with NAV and it seems many others are having issues also. Ah DC-6 all the way Wanderer! I know the DC-6 is pricier, but it’s worth every penny. As beautiful as the Beech 18 looks, visuals are really the only facet that the aircraft has going for it, whereas the DC-6 has a tonne of positives (systems, flight model, failures, sounds etc). Also you can remove the GPS altogether in the DC-6 - you’ll be stuck with it on the Beech 18. I totally get you on the Steam gauges etc though haha. You might also want to have a little look at the Wing42 Boeing 247 (if you haven’t done so already). It does have some significant bugs currently, but it ticks all of your boxes and is similar money to the Beech 18 (and hopefully Wing42 will fix it up). I hope that helps a little. All the best! : )

My beechcraft 18 will always violently drag to the left during take off. So badly that rudder control is not enough to even keep me on the runway. It’s weird the plane seems to behave like a paper airplane when it’s even slightly windy. Is this accurate?
@IntotheBlueSimulations2 жыл бұрын
Hi Shane, Unfortunately MSFS taildragger physics are pretty sub-par at the moment, with some addons being affected more than others (and Carenado addons being some of the worst for the type of behaviours you describe). It's certainly not accurate vs the real-world. I gather Asobo are planning to address some of the issue at a later date, but they have been pretty slow to act thus far. All I can suggest for the time being, is keep the tail down on the ground for as long as you can (slowly easing off on the elevator, to avoid lifting off early). Keeping the tail down seems to help with directional control and often it's just easier (in the sim) to lift off in the 3-point attitude. Avoid crosswinds as well where you can and correct any deviation as soon as you see it start to develop (otherwise as you say, the aircraft can deviate beyond a recoverable point). I hope that helps a little. All the best! : )

Such a beauty! Graphics are awesome, I purchased mine yesterday. Unfortunatly the groundoperation is as unreal as the vanilla DC3... I flew some tail draggers and every pilot knows that you need to have a little dance on the rudder for keeping it straight. But this is BS really... The plane pulls hard to the left, even with locked tailwheel and power reduce on the right engine. When you add little crosswind from the left, you cant counter it with the rudder. As soon as the tail comes up, the plane is way too unstable, feels more like a Husky STOL-Plane, where is all the weight gone?! Three-point-landing is okay but not recommended in reallife with the D18. I hope they fix this....

Hi Ceejay, thanks for the feedback! I haven't had a chance to fly the Beech 18 since it was updated, so it's disappointing to hear that the ground handling is still sub par (that is somewhat to be expected with MSFS, but Carenado aircraft seem to be worse than most in this regard). Thanks for the great review. I suspect that Asobo have their thumbs on developers creating aircraft for Asobo to keep the prices down. While Carenado have never been into study level aircraft, they are usually pretty good on detail. A standard Carenado release is usually $30-40 so something is going to suffer to release at $20. The P3D version released at US$34.95 I think at at the release price, it's a pretty good effort.
@IntotheBlueSimulations2 жыл бұрын
Hi Squirel, You're correct of course, although where my frustration lies is that, at least in some instances, I think Carenado have actually had to remove features to make their products "Asobo compatible" (I think it was maybe the Staggerwing, where I saw screenshots with all of the usual functionality, only to find it missing upon release). I can understand why of course, but it's just a little bit of a shame not to make the best of the product. Nevertheless, for $20 I certainly shan't complain too much and I have to say I've been enjoying the Beech 18 overall (took it for a little outing in your neck of the woods just the other day actually!). It's a shame Microsoft doesn't seem to let Carenado do their clipboard customisation options but then again the Microsoft published ones are cheaper than the regular Carenado releases so it kinda balances it out I suppose. I read a book that someone recommended in the official forum thread 'I'll take the 18' about cargo pilots flying these things in the 70s, 80s and up to the 90s. Quite crazy really. Nice landing but I believe-not sure but believe-most twin taildragger (non-sim) pilots “wheel it on,” that is, land on the mains and then push the yoke slightly to keep the tail up as long as possible. That keeps the rudder or rudders up in the airstream longer for better directional control. Later in the roll-out, the tail is eased down as the plane slows. I wonder if the sim has tail-blanketing that I think the big twins experience if the tail is let down early. (I fly a ‘46 [non-sim] 7AC Champ, a light, low-power single-engine taildragger, but even I wheel on my plane on hard surfaces since I like the better directional control with keeping the tail up. Tail-low three-pointers are lovely but, me, I do them only on grass which is more foregiving if at touchdown you’ve not completely eliminated all drift, say, in a crosswind. On grass in a crosswind the mains will skid a bit rather than bite as on concrete.)
@IntotheBlueSimulations2 жыл бұрын
Thanks very much for the feedback / pointers Kevin, much appreciated! I only have very limited tailwheel experience myself in the real-world, but the techniques I employ here (and indeed with pretty much any tailwheel aircraft in MSFS) are purely to try and work around some of the sim’s inadequacies. Directional control is still very sub-par on a lot of taildraggers in the sim and one of the best ways I’ve found to mitigate the issue, is to keep the tailwheel down on the ground for as long as possible. Unlike in the real-world, it generally results in better directional control and certainly helps to keep the aircraft straight on the runway (many MSFS aircraft have a tendency to “spear off” in one direction otherwise). Landing the Beech 18 on the mains, I found it became incredibly squirrelly; a 3-pointer made things a little bit more manageable. I’m not for a second saying that my technique would apply in the real-world, but I find it generally tends to work well in the sim. Cheers and all the best! : )

@IntotheBlueSimulations2 жыл бұрын
Hi Daddenew, The smoothness is relatively easy to achieve, as I only run the sim at 1080p (so I can often see the fps up around 80-90). I tend to keep the fps locked at 60 though, keeping things nice and smooth for the most part. The graphics are a little bit more "personal"; I only run the sim on the "High End" preset, but I tend to spend a lot of time for each of my videos, tweaking the weather, lighting, camera angles etc, to achieve the desired effect (the sim doesn't always look this good by "default"). For the hardware, I'm not too sure on the CPU I'm afraid, but an RTX3080 will certainly be sufficient. A modern CPU within the same performance bracket, should be enough to get the best out of the sim. I hope that helps a little? Cheers and all the best! : )

Bought this from the marketplace but astonishingly can’t get it to download cos it goes into an endless loop of restarting each time 700mb is done. I live in Nigeria and to waste data in that manner is indefensible if not scandalous. Could someone help me explain what’s gone wrong there, please!!!?
@IntotheBlueSimulations2 жыл бұрын
Hi Peter, Sorry to hear about your issues. Any luck with things yet? I used to have many download issues as you describe and for me it was always caused by an unstable wifi connection (I generally had to use a wired connection for any MSFS downloads). I've since moved my PC though and not had any problems since. Do you think it could be the same issue for you? All the best! : )

@42:19 those birds flying over.. I love this sim so much! and yes, I bought the birds too!! - Initial climb rate: 1,190 fpm - If this felt heavy, I would buy it.. I love this kind of aircraft.. great for Alaska flights! 81fps? are you sure? I get 35-45fps! This is what it SHOULD sound like kzbin.info/www/bejne/nmLUhK15o9-LrLs
@IntotheBlueSimulations2 жыл бұрын
Hi MM, Yeah, those birds actually come with the Burning Blue Design scenery though (a nice little touch). The flight model of the Carenado Beech 18 is definitely questionable, but it's a pleasant enough aircraft for cruising around in (indeed I did exactly that the day after recording haha). I am sure on the fps. I only run the sim in 1080p and on the "High-End" preset, so I get nice high framerates (I usually lock things at 60fps, but obviously not for this test). and yes, the sounds are a bit of a letdown on the Beech, but I'd be very surprised if the receive any sort of overhaul sadly. . . Cheers and all the best!: )

For all my addons, I don't own a single Carenado plane - but for £12, I think this is a steal TBH. Its not perfect, but its beautiful and so iconic. I've just bought it and will take it for a spin later tonight. Great vid as always. BTW - on that Century AP unit, the roll button acts as an AP master. I believe this is accurate IRL.

Indeed sir, I don't think one can go too far wrong for £12 haha and I actually don't think Carenado have done a bad job with the Beech at this sort of price point. As you say, far from perfect, but a beautiful classic and a nice option for taking in the scenery etc. Thanks for the pointer on the autopilot, I did finally manage to figure that one out myself later on haha. On another note, thank you very much indeed for becoming a channel member, hugely appreciated! Nice flight and not bad plane for the money? Lovely cinematics again and the music 🎵 in cruise was very relaxing. I wonder if: a) Caranado plan to do updates on sounds as some can be a little lack luster on it seems; b) MSFS will work on Auto pilot Nav/ILS's in game, which seem to be and onging lottery and may need more love - I do like the world sim updates but there seems to be a greater need in flight modelling & systems more than regions but it gets better little by little which is nice. Thanks for another lovely showcase. 👏
@IntotheBlueSimulations2 жыл бұрын
Hi LG, I would say that there is little to no chance of the sounds being updated unfortunately. I guess it's quite a big undertaking for a dev to do so and most seemingly will not - it doesn't seem to matter how many complaints they get haha (props to Flysimware, for being one of the very few devs to have done so). Especially with the addon being a relatively cheap "Asobo" offering, I can't really see the benefit on Carenado's side, for putting in the effort. As to your second point, absolutely! I should certainly hope that Asobo does and it's a real shame that it has taking them this long to be honest. I'm a big MSFS fan of course, but Asobo really need to sort out some of the core fundamentals of the sim, it's been 2 years now. . . I'm glad you enjoyed the video! The Beech 18 isn't perfect, but indeed I think it's an enjoyable offering for the price : ) All the best!

Such a pity that they released it with a steerable tail wheel. in P3D I managed to edit the cfg file and turn it into a castering wheel. Does anybody know if this is possible in MSFS2020? As for the engines, apart from the amazing Milvis.C310, I am finding the engine sounds in MSFS a bit disappointing. Coming from hundreds of hours in the P3D DC-6 to the MSFS version, I was so disappointed!
@zOMGREI2 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, no. Not with addons bought through the marketplace, at least. Everything purchased from there is largely encrypted and only a few files are exposed, the flight model.cfg isn't one of them and that's the one you'd need to edit. (at least I believe it is, I've never messed with tailwheel parameters, so ymmv)
@IntotheBlueSimulations2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for offering up the info zOMGREI. It’s a real shame that Asobo have gone down the encryption route; tweaking CFG’s etc used to be one of the joys for many in the hobby. Perhaps Asobo could at least offer some sort of “in-sim” editing tool or something. . . Much appreciated, all the best! : )

hey Into the blue love the review as usual, will you consider splitting your videos between summarised review (the stuff you do at the end) and a detailed review that you takes up majority of the video's time? This way to you target people who prefer small format videos?
@IntotheBlueSimulations2 жыл бұрын
Hi Knox, Thanks very much, really glad you enjoyed it. It's a fair point, but I'm not sure I'd be looking to go down that route. Personally I really enjoy the long form content and wouldn't want shorter videos to detract from it. That being said, I could perhaps release the long video first and then the shorter / summary video a couple of days after for those who want it. . . I'll give it some thought; I'm planning to shake up a few things on the channel in the coming months. I want to continue making the types on content I enjoy, otherwise KZbin can become a real grind, but of course I also want the content to be enjoyable for the viewers haha. At the end of the day, the 10 minute conclusion will always be there at the end of the longer videos though. Thanks very much for the suggestion! All the best : )

@IntotheBlueSimulations2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Martin! Yes, it is a real shame about the engine sounds. For the most part I think Carenado did a nice job with the aircraft given the price point, but one the main things that makes these vintage aircraft so special is of course the sound. For those of us who aren't fortunate enough to have flown the real deal, this is as close as we'll probably ever get - so it's always a shame when the dev underdelivers. Still, I will say that I have been enjoying the Beech 18 nevertheless. Haha, getting shot down by a "Japanese" Harvard? I have to ask what was going on there?! XD All the best : )
