I am so jealous that Australia and Thailand already have the new D-Max. We here in South Africa have to wait until second half of 2021. I am absolutely in love with this new D-Max design, it is by far the best looking bakkie on offer. The facelifted Hilux took a step backwards from the current version, btw the Hilux was my second best looking bakkie. I am currently driving a 2017 Isuzu KB (D-Max name in South Africa), it is an amazing bakkie even though everyone always criticizes Isuzu for their engine noise or lack of refinement, I have driven Hilux, Ranger and Amarok, and will not trade my KB for any of them. Isuzu is ultra reliable and we have 5 x different Isuzu KB's on the farm from 1986 to 2017 models and they are unstoppable. I am definitely buying a new 2021 Isuzu D-Max when it is built here in SA next year. All the advancements will just make it more desirable. This will be a killer bakkie in South Africa. Thank you for the AWESOME review. Isuzu love from South Africa.

Well don't feel too bad here in the US we will NEVER get this. For some reason Isuzu left the NA market. I like this and the looks of the 2021 Navara Pro 4-X. However, the Isuzu will destroy the Nissan with that 3.0 turbo diesel. Its funny that globally the new D-Max is a real hotcake and the talk of the town whereas in the US, nobody has not even heard about it.

I bought the new D-Max in February. It's a good truck and does a good job of towing. But I can not recommend it to others because the so-called safety technology is both dangerous and annoying. By default every time the truck is started the safety options are set to active. To turn them off requires going through multiple menus. This is so annoying every time I start the truck. So why do I turn some of the features off? Because they are dangerous. For example, the lane assist feature is really dangerous if you try to avoid something in a hurry. I had a kangaroo jump in front of the truck and when I tried to swerve to avoid it the truck lane assist tried to pull the truck back into the lane towards the kangaroo. This could just as easily have been a pedestrian or another car pulling out from a side road. I have also had the brake assist feature almost lock the wheels when I was trying to reverse park the truck. I can't put an object like a suitcase in the back seat without either having to lock the seat belt or tolerating the damn annoying alarm Isuzu installed. I wrote to Isuzu and suggested they come out with a software update that allows the driver to set the safety features to default at on or off - whatever their preference. But Isuzu sent me a form letter saying their safety standards comply with ANCAP. standards. It would seem an easy thing to offer, but it is clear Isuzu are not interested.

Great review. I know everyone talks Nm but I’ve driven all three (Ranger/Hilux) and very impressed how relaxed the Isuzu is to drive. Also, the Dmax reaches 300 Nm at 1000 revs and 450 at 1600. It’s personal, but I felt the DMax was the most linear of the three in power delivery. Personally, I was leaning to Ford but changed my mind. Keep the reviews coming. Really enjoy them.
@CarExpertAus4 жыл бұрын
Agreed! This definitely feels punchier than the 450Nm suggests. Maybe a dyno comparison is in order?
@tashingakeith59194 жыл бұрын
300Nm is very impressive seeing as though my 2004 Isuzu KB300 produces 296Nm at 1800rpm and I still won’t trade it for anything coz it STILL pulls
@Naessey4 жыл бұрын
CarExpert Would love non jargon comparison. Again, Ford was faster off the lights, but the linear power through every gear for the Dmax totally surprised me and how quickly it came on. Again, if you want get off the lights faster, the Ford is the best bet, but damn, the new Dmax is a step up. So much so, I bought one.
@jarretfox48083 жыл бұрын
@@CarExpertAus Another review site dyno'd the new Dmax at just under 106rwkw. Given most 3.2 Rangers come in between 103-110 the 4J is published a tad conservative I reckon. Ive driven the latest Hilux SR5, Xterrain and BT50 GT and they all feel line ball grunt-wise, the Dmax platform leans on it's torque curve with the trans mapping hunting less than the Hilux (despite both being the same Aisin transmission. The throttle mapping is a little slower off idle so some have interpreted this as turbo lag but it definitely isn't. Wouldn't be surprised if there is a mild throttle mapping change to give the impression of more grunt in the inevitable minor tweaking updates usually found in newer releases.

In South Africa, this Isuzu may not dethrone King Hilux and its second in command, Deputy Ranger, but it should run a very close third. On looks alone, it has the facelifted Hilux beaten. The Ranger is on its way out, and must pray that the new one looks better than the outgoing one, if it is to keep its place. I thought the GWM P series' interior was sexy. This Isuzu matches it, and then some.

Eisbär The Ranger is an amazing car, no doubt. Whether new Hilux, Dmax or Ranger, you can’t go wrong. What’s surprising is that 12 months ago, DMax wasn’t in that group. The 10sp ranger is a quick beast and my preferred. I was awaiting the new DMax to test drive before buying the Ranger to make sure it was the right choice. Put deposit down last week. On the DMax.
@Mochabear854 жыл бұрын
@@eisbar7354 Can't argue with that. Had an MY16 Wildtrak and was a great ute. Downgraded (pun intended) to a MY18 Triton and 200% miss the refinement and wizardry that comes with the Ranger. CarExpert well if you could include a section of POV driving in your reviews. Even that would be great. Since not many reviewers have POV driving reviews in RHD countries. It may be even more useful for people in lockdown affected locations. I feel the POV reviews of Winding Road Magazine ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/pmKno3mXZ5mHedE) offer a lot of detail. Thanks for the review..... it does look like a good vehicle..... Perhaps it is just me, but I always think that manufactures miss two simple tricks.... The car has forward and rear facing cameras.... why don’t manufacturers incorporate these cameras into a ‘dashcam’ type setup.... I’m sure many people would find that extremely useful when the worst happens out on the road... Secondly, and you touched on it in the review, a chilled compartment for a couple of cans/small bottles of water.... Look forward to your comparison tests..... Thanks again
@CarExpertAus4 жыл бұрын
Some are starting to do this, but I think the quality of parking cameras generally isn’t very good. Many manufacturers are now using the AEB or self driving cameras to double as dash cameras

I have sat in one but have not been able to score a test drive of x-terrain as demos are rare as hens teeth as some dealers have advised. I did get onto Isuzu who directed me to a dealer who has one to test drive on tuesday this week so i am looking forward to that. I can say so far it looks great in the orange colour and is very comfortable to sit in the seats are awesome. What i liked the most is the grab handles as i have two bad knees they allow me easier access to the car which makes it great for me. I have test driven the triton and ford ranger so far the ford is my choice but will try ntrek warrior Sr5 when i can find a dealer who test models.

The worry for me is...how will the 2.0 Ford stack up against the Isuzu in 5 years from now in terms of reliability and resale value. My feeling is the Isuzu will have a trade in edge over the Ford.

@@CarExpertAus bought a X terrain but wont be ready until December. Thoughts of X Terrain VS Ranger 2.0? The Ranger to drive around town felt like you're tying to control a wild beast where as the X Terrain felt much more easy to drive in traffic. Items that beat the XLT Ranger (same value for money at the end of the day). Way better and leather seats, more value for money, way better layout on the front console (the Ranger seems to me they are trying add too many things and the cheapest price) the rear end was way more settled in the X Terrain and the finish in many places inside was better.

Stick with the Isuzu 😁 it’ll be worth the wait!

Hi Eisbar. I also test drove a XLT fully loaded and new DMax X Terrain back to back this week. Both $59,000 drive away cars. I prefer DMax. Interior feels much nicer. Isuzu feels more comfortable. Looks better. More features I like in the DMax. I’ll admit the ranger 2.0 engine and gearbox was slightly zippier. Ranger was also a tiny bit quieter. Close call, but I slightly preferred the DMax after the test runs. I’m in WA and four dealers I called all said earliest delivery is Jan or Feb for a DMax- they have sold all stock until then. What state are you in with a Nov estimated delivery?

Daniel O'Malley SA and December - January delivery. Yes, my experience with the bi turbo. Quicker off the line and quieter but once at 60kmh not much in it. I didn’t like the jittery rear axle in the Ranger.

Isuzu i never expected it to look like this but it hasn't changed much really when we first met i fell in love with it . Traction control 7/10 but its just so beautiful its reliable strong 😂😂 japanese cars just run forever you can grow a good white bearded with it the back seats base lift up remind me that they copied the honda fit magic seats very suspicious

Maybe it's just me. But the outside looks so cheap and Chinese like, honestly looks terrible. The X on the back is woeful, I mean really? It costs $63000, if you're spending that money you're a man, or a man with a bank loan, you don't want some 'X' sticker on the back of your ute. The side steps creaking made me laugh, what does that tell you? Inside looks unreal but for $63, 000 it bloody should.

Outstanding review mate. Definitely my next ute. $58k for the top spec at the moment. Absolute steal. Hate those wheels but a quick upgrade to steelies with off road tyers and its perfect

Thanks! Yes some people aren’t a fan of the wheels but they will drop an accessory set soon if you want to stay with the ‘official’ wheels.

The wheels grew on me, certain colour bodies make them look better. Mine looks mint in white

As I keep vehicles for at least 5 years, I value the financial strength of the manufacturer. Isuzu, Toyota, VAG have very strong financials (even in COVID19 times). Holden is dead but even if it wasn't, GM has very weak financials but worse, Ford is a basket case globally with the vehicle production side bleeding to death and only kept afloat by Ford Credit.

Dear followers!! Don't let the beautiful pictures confuse you . Anyone who buys a new car from GENERAL Motors the chance you threw your money into the trash is very large. In this company there is no customer service, the company's management does not care at all, if you have a problem or a malfunction, you can only pray to God there is a chance that the help will come faster. GM is a very dangerous company, be careful and keep your money safe.!!!Share so more people don't get screwed.

Great review and a nice truck for sure 👍 small question though...what is the button? On the back side of the key?
@CarExpertAus4 жыл бұрын
Good question! It’s just the release for the mechanical key hidden inside.
