Ordered mine and placed a deposit in April 2022. Was told I was number 6 in Australia. From this June through to December, I just got all sorts of excuses why my truck was late. Then on the 20th of December told that my truck has gone to another customer and they'd have to organise another to be built and remanufactured. Was likely to be delivered after Easter 2024 now. Have now cancelled my order and got my deposit back. Is the worst new car experience ever! Never buying a Ford ever again!

@stevemicale7843 you dodged a bullet there mate. Don’t be the lab rat for this vehicle, ecoboost engines are the worst for carbon build up and short lifespan. The raptor ecoboosts are already blowing up having engine replacements by 20,000 k’s.

Hi mate had same experience with mustang dark horse ordered Nov 7th 2022 was told I was 12th in line then 6 weeks ago told I missed out.western ford in caroline springs Victoria worst fuckin liers asked to speak to principal dealer tried to contact him 3 times never got back to me

Sorry to hear that - that sucks. I was pretty shocked to see the condition of the service centre I took my Raptor to two weeks ago for its first major service. It looked like a backyard mechanic - certainly not the place I'd want to be buying a $140k vehicle from.

I picked up my SWB Lariat 2 weeks ago. Ordered in October this year, so about an 8 week wait. It is everything you mention in the video. We purchased solely for towing horses, not much payload needed. I have a y62 and a next gen ranger raptor. We used to tow with the y62 and when I got the raptor, for a bit of fun, I hooked the float up and went for a spin. After that short trip, I ordered an F150. The twin turbo is brilliant for towing, and the F150 is very torquey. Things I don’t like after 2 weeks of ownership: 1) The mirrors are virtually useless. Can see almost nothing out of drivers one. (Not convex) 2) Drivers footwell is too small. I know all converted trucks are similar but the foot position is nothing close to the ranger raptor let alone the basement size footwell in the y62. Wearing steel caps or larger boots is tricky 3) The stupid idle noise it makes. I know this is not a problem, but it supposedly the straight cut gears Ford used in the auto’s oil pump. Sounds like you have a belt problem, all the time.. 4) I don’t love the indicator on the left. It is not a problem when driving the F150 as there is nothing on the right to confuse with, but when you get back in another car…. 5) These cars sit around for ages while they get made, then shipped, then transported then converted then Transported again. The paint on mine was pretty average condition due to being ‘washed’ when dirty by people who need to wash a lot of cars quickly. Everything else in mine was top notch. The finish seems good and it drives very well. I took a punt being an early bird on this, buying one of the first 300 converted, but I gambled that they wanted to do them right. It so far seems to do everything we wanted from a ‘Tow Pony’ and am interested to see how it goes long term.

I'm almost 2 years into waiting for my order in the US and finally got a build date (F450 King Ranch). It's incredible that you can get a converted truck in Australia in under 3 months.

One thing I take it seriously is noise of just around 67db is way better than most of SUV you tested before. Is very impressive truck. Keep up good work paul, I never miss your videos

Seeing some of the comments when it comes to the way Ford has handled some orders is defs a concern and also the stop orders. In all fairness though, this is a new undertaking and will probably take time to get right so give it time i guess. F150 is one of the best out there after all

When I do the conversion to USD it seems expensive (I'm paying slightly more for an F450 KR). Then I consider the cost of the RHD conversion and it isn't that bad.

Driving f150 king ranch witch is not available in Australia, for 5 years , 2016 model and recently bought 2023 model with naturally spirited 5.0 , it is amazing truck drove more than 150000 miles during 5 years and the only problem I had was changing battery in my old f150 , power delivery , style and fuel economy is awesome, take care of it and it’ll take care of you

A few other American Ford imports that may do well in Australia would be the Ford Bronco (shares with the Ranger), the Bronco Sport, and the Maverick(both share with the Escape). It would be interesting to see how they fare down under.

Just an interesting thing I noticed, but check out the gap between the back of the steering wheel and the steering column shroud @16:00. My eyes were drawn straight to it!

It uses the Ranger Raptor steering rack, the whole thing, not just the motor. Ranger rack with F150 tie rod ends

That is a completely unexpected question. Full size trucks usually have their crumple zones built into the vehicles that they are involved in collisions with. I had a Scion xB run into my rear bumper doing about 40 mph more than I was doing. Destroyed the Scion and scratched my (Ram 2500) hitch receiver. I barely felt the collision.

Australia should get the HDs. The Ram and Ford HDs would be easier to convert the steering and the HDs are far more durable.

Ford have stopped production due to safety concerns apparently. Was told mine would be ready about Christmas but that has passed. I wonder what the issues are that they’ve found ?

That gross weight law in Australia is a killer. It’s safer to haul around people and things in a vehicle like this rather than with a light vehicle to avoid the law.

Love it. Brings back memories of my old F100 4x4 and F250 4x4 back in the 70's. V8 magic could go anywhere. No problem on bushy narrow tracks, just go over bushes. Oh man, need some timetravel device😂😂😂

The really impressive vehicle is the F250 with the high output diesel. The 0 to 60 time is around 5.5 seconds for a close to 7,000 lb vehicle.

Ordered one in February. Dealer discovered water leak in mine and their showroom model. They showed vehicle and where water was building up in right hand sill. Ford engineers looked into it and came up with solution to problem. Delivery in early December delayed. Ford has fixed problem. Delivery date was then changed to 20th December. On 18th December had phone call saying all deliveries have been suspended by Ford . What is going on?

@@Lumpschlevot I'm in Maryland. A F350 or F450 would cost a fortune in Australia. Not that $100k is not a lot of money for a truck, but $300k or $400k is just insane. King Ranch are just so tough to get for some reason. Add that trim to the F450 and wait times are ridiculous.

I ordered the F150 in July 2022, I was then told delays in shipping. Three months into 2023 and was told arriving in may, then was told that the car was getting the conversion done in July. August I received an email saying the vehicle didn't arrive in Australia (WTF Is going on Ford) I called the dealership and they told me that they have no idea to what is happening, very professional. I cancelled the order and ordered a RAM Limited in August. Ram told me the delivery date is in the first week of December 2023. And they were not lying. It's been three weeks now with the RAM and would not change it for anything. Thank God that I didn't stick with the F150.

Is it just the camera making the gap between the steering wheel and its shroud? Looks bigger than on most cars. While not something we really see it might be something to show true conversion quality. I love it. I have no issues with them as long as people are using them for what they are made for. If just living in the inner city then it's a bad joke but if you live in the country or do a lot of trips outside of the city and if you need to tow then they are the perfect vehicle. The torque output is amazing for a 3.5L turbo petrol engine. When you look at great ford engines like the Barra turbo engines even in FPV specs it produced over 100NM less torque than what this engine is putting out.

Great & thorough review as always Paul! Some very nice bells & whistles features, although more things to go wrong down the track. Hard to justify the price tag, especially with a Ford badge on it. Deal breaker for me is having a petrol engine instead of a diesel engine, which would perfectly match such a behemoth for towing & much improved fuel consumption, especially with a 10 speed auto. I doubt that those fuel figures quoted are really accurate & would be surprised one can achieve less than 20L/100 km (unladen & motorway cruising) with a petrol engine in the real world. There is big difference in what the computer says & actual fuel consumption. Curious as to whether you actually test the fuel consumption at the fuel bowser instead of what is on the onboard computer?

I would love to see them bring the PowerBoost over here. But knowing Ford and their overzealous pricing structure, it'd be priced at over $160k. And the small payload is to compensate for our 4.5t licencing requirements.

Paul. You hardly ever have a close up of the heater controls. Something buyers really would like to see as they vary significantly across models and manufacturers. (as you well know). Oh and I suppose it has stupid left hand indicators.

The trailer control thing kills me! If you move your hand from the top of the wheel to the bottom of the wheel you can steer like you are backing the truck up without the trailer and the trailer responds like the back of the truck would. I have no issues parallel parking a 53' trailer without trailer control.

The turn signals sticking on - I think that is the lane change feature. If you just tap the signal stalk up or down, but don't fully click it in, it will flash the indicators whatever way for a few seconds for a lane change.

Thing is though most people that can afford a van that’s 4.5t isn’t going for a 150 they would have a f250,350. It’s the perfect Ute to tow a 2.5-3.5 van easily

"decent amount of payload" is a big overstatement with these American trucks. ~700 kg given it's size is incredibly poor. It would be good in a Ford mondeo (that had like ~630 kg of payload the last time a drove one).

@@praetor-009 my hilux has 920kg including a 75kg driver so 995kg. These tow more but the payloads are hilarious.

Maybe the payload is just realistic unlike a Mondeo at 630kg or a ranger at 900kg You put 630kg in the boot of a mondeo and the tyres would be hitting the wheel arch’s the suspension would sag that much A ranger would snap in half after a few weeks of having 900kg constantly in the tub Whereas this could have 700kg in the tub everyday all day no problems Dual cabs here in aus are way overrated for what they can actually do and is more theoretical than practical

@@jacksonwelch9870 I have loaded 600 kg in a mondeo without any dramas. Same with my hilux, works just fine. If I would drive maxed out 100% of the time it needs heavier leafs though. Atm I'm a round 500kg all the time without issues.

So. Essentially, the RHD conversion is USD40K. Big price to pay for being in a RHD market. Imagine you could get yourself a pretty good crew cab Isuzu truck 4x4 for a lot less even if you include the 2k for a MR licence. But if we're being fair dinkum people are really buying these for reasons to do with image rather than for towing.

There are slight economy benefits, but 91 is the most cost effective. 95 or 98 will never save enough fuel to justify the extra cost.

Long term testing in my Ranger raptor shows an about 8% fuel consumption increase when switching to 91 instead of 98, with about 10% cheaper fuel, so you save maybe 2%, but with the decrease in performance. I don't think it's worth it for such a small fuel saving. Might just set the cruise to 103 instead of 106 on the freeway and you'll save the same, and stay on 98.

So they limit it in Australia 4 tons but if it's equipped with the right package it can pulls 7 tons but that one you have there. in the US is rated to pull 6 tons it's still nice

You would have to have no self preservation instincts to pull 7 metric tons with a F150. That is more that I would be comfortable towing with an F250 and I have towed trailers with gross weights over 45000 lbs.

Yep Obviously these r much cheaper in USA The RRP here, needs to cover - Shipping to Australia Exchange rate Ford Australia feasibility and R & D costs etc Cost of conversion to RHD here in Australia Ford is using a company called “ RMA “ to do the conversion. RMA ain’t doing the work for free.. Warranty here is 5 years / unlimited mileage Ford Australia say RMA can convert 20 vehicles per day. In theory, that’s 5,000 vehicles per year, that ALL of these costs need to be absorbed into Hence The high price here 🤷🏻‍♂️

Valid use case for towing something heavy, but these trucks in the city are 200% as likely to kill a person in an accident (source: ETSC study), consume way more fuel than other vehicles, and painful to park. Shame some ppl need a giant, inefficient truck to feel like a really big, tough man...

@@dallasfrost1996 That's great to hear. I loved my Ram 2500, but it was not really capable of what I wanted it to do. It was only rated to tow about 15,000 lbs and the payload rating was on the lighter end. I really should have bought the 3500 back in 2010. Now I have a Super Duty (F450) ordered.

Diesels are not viable in the US on vehicles with a GVM/GVWR of under 8,501 lbs due to EPA regulations. If you want a diesel they need to work on importing F250 through F450. All have the 6.7 Powerstroke in standard and high output.

@@rw20000 Ford killed it. Ram did the same with the Eco-Diesel, so there is only the 3L Duramax left and GM is having to work very hard to keep it. Even Nissan dropped the 5L Cummins. It's just too tough to meet the regulations for the class 1 and class 2A vehicles.

@@maltainu3621 of course it matters. The V8 is a high revving performance engine, not a high torque engine which is what’s needed for towing. A good engine for the Mustang, not a pickup truck.
