Agree with other comments on here, not updating that interior is a massive mistake by Nissan. A nice looking and functional interior is a high priority for me when choosing a car and it always surprises me how many companies get this wrong.

Yea I am one who sold a LC200 and bought a Y62. I could not be happier with my choice. The only reason jurno’s have such high fuel consumption figures with the Y62 is due to their heavy right foot. I put a deposit down on a gxl 300 series without driving or even sitting in one. Then I drove back to back with the y62. Power, size and much flatter handling of the patrol made me cancel my 300 series order and order a y62. 300 is wonderful but felt like my 150 prado in so many ways. The y62 evoked more emotion with that v8 and allowed me to drop 20k worth of mods straight away and still have change left over !!

I’d rather the patrol than a 300 Sahara. The 300 Sahara feels compact compared to the cavernous patrol. Honestly this is the perfect example of old school trumps the latest and greatest. The family would be a hell of a lot more comfortable on a round Oz trip over the 300. My wife sat in the Sahara and then sat in the Patrol and the Patrol blew her away. She actually said why would you buy the Sahara over this. Patrol for us. We’ve been a Toyota family with previous landcruisers in the driveway over the years.

Once again, a Patrol review and no mention of towing ability. I would suggest a lot of buyers of this vehicle do it for towing. Me personally I have nearly no interest in the technology, I have a 2017 Ranger with the tech pack. I have tried all of its tech and ended up turning them all off. Some of it is just dangerous. I want a simple tow vehicle. Can you please do a tow test and explain why we should buy this over a Landcruiser, Ram or Silverado. Would be a great help to those of us researching tow vehicles for our grey nomad years.
@rosewood1

Absolutely agree. I sold my Landcruiser because it would use 25 to 35 litres per hundred k towing my 2350kg tare caravan My 2014 Colorado averages 16 litres with fully loaded caravan. When a big lap is 18000k the fuel price difference is huge. The interior bling is almost irrelevant to me. Being a tow workhorse is everything.
@johncanalese588
@johncanalese588 Жыл бұрын
@@rosewood1 I towed my 2.5T caravan with a 4-cyl diesel Amarok for a couple of years and averaged around 16-17 L/100km when towing. Bought my new Patrol Ti one month ago and I am seeing 19-21 L/100km towing the same caravan. For the slight increase in consumption, but using cheaper petrol over diesel I would not go back. The smoothness and comfort level inside along with the performance on tap is on another level. Hills present no challenge and no raucous diesel engine revving it's head off. To each his own, just my real world experience.

@obs2746

@@jarrod1687 1. Price, Patrol was about $30 k cheaper. 2. 300 GXL seats were fabric and mechanical adjustable, for $115k you would expect far better than this cheap equipment. 3. Bonnet rippled whilst driving only 60 km/ph meaning flimsy, 4. Drive was harsh, no longer feels like a solid car, feels more like a Prado (more evidence Toyota is cheapening it’s build), 5. Plastic underbody protection and aluminium door panels, 6. Whole new engine design, Toyota has a poor history of new design with many prior series experiencing significant flaws, 7. Timeframe to get a new car, dealer said more than 12 months possibly 18 months, 8. Infotainment system was very complex. Patrol, 1. Price through fleet buyer $84 k driveway, 2. Delivery approx 6 - 8 months, 3. Solid big vehicles, feels like a solid car, 4. V8, not too bad on fuel but great V8 feel and sound, 5, leather electric adjusted seats, 6. Looks, not perfect but better than the 300 (personal choice), 7. Lots of aftermarket upgrades accessories available- far more than the 300. Only disappointment was its wood grain and infotainment but for only $1500 all can be upgraded if I want.

There are still some deals to be had on the Y62 I'm told even through a broker. Ti $80-84k and TiL $93-97k. As LC300 RRP had now increased to $124k VX and $143k Sahara, the difference is around $40k and $50k respectively as no negotiation on Toyota (even full RRP on Nissan way in front). Interior is no doubt not as nice, however one can update the wood grain and even the infotainment from OS version or aftermarket. Budget for around $4k to update this and you have very compelling argument in my opinion.

Yes, the interior is as old as your mum's Ford Laser and yes, creature comforts like Andriod auto/Apple car play & DAB would be nice, it's honestly not that bad. There is a bloke on YT that retrofits these mods to the factory unit and even replaces the woodgrain in more modern materials, looks fantastic once done. Maybe an average interior is just for cost cutting. Overall still better than buying a new operpriced land cruiser. For 95k it offers HBMC, a rear diff lock, unlike the 300 series which offers neither a KDSS nor a rear diff lock even at 113k, except for the $138k GR sport trim. Then most importantly it still retains a good old NA V8.

Had a LC300 Grs on order, they put the price up $10k while on wait list; now 160k drive away. I cancelled order, test drove a TiL; order placed. Drive away price difference of 60k

1. Between Kia Carnival and Nissan Patrol - how does boot space compare? 2. Between Kia Carnival and Nissan Patrol - how does comfort for a family of 6 compare? 3. Between Kia Carnival, Nissan Patrol and Toyota Landcrusier - which lasts long without much issues and has good service? This is coming from a man who loves to take care of his cars. I have a toyota yarris 2009 and it's in mint condition. It has lasted me for a long time and nearly has run 400000ks no issues at all I find Nissan patrol tempting especially V8 part as Kia is a V6...

Considering the Patrol is still made in Japan (a RHD market), very surprised that they didn't make a RHD version of the new interior. Is it because, Australia is the only RHD market that's still buying the Y62? I wonder how many Y62 orders were cancelled, since petrol prices started frequently exceeding $2/L?

Great review. Personally I like the interior very much. Brilliant rear load space when 3rd row is closed. Negatives Rear suspension is too soft for 3 ton towing in standard form and most replace springs and add air bags. This should be standard IMO.

Most add bags in the cruiser as well so only additional cost to the cruiser would be the addition of updating the springs which is only around $400

I've had my MY22 Ti for almost one month now and covered about 4000km. Awesome vehicle. First thing I did was buy a set of Kings Springs to replace the factory rears along with Airbag Man bags for about $600 total. Installed them myself (with help from my brother), in my driveway - some jacks stands and a jack needed but not overly complicated. Now tow my 2.5T caravan without any sag. Cheap upgrade.

Interior kills it for me. You spend most of the time looking at the interior when you are using the thing. Makes it kinda important.

Hey Paul, you can actually fit a big bottle on the centre console, just need to lift that small plastic sleeve (adaptor) which is installed by default ;)

For 2.8tonne vehicle doing 0-100 in just 6 second is enough to proof how powerful this patrol engine is..its just sad just because aussie drive right handed vehicle,they didnt do interior upgrade with their reason costly to make the switch..poor nissan

Yooo I just traded a current xc60 with all the conceivable tech you can imagine for one of these dinosaurs and I couldn’t be happier. The quietness, comfort and that motor won me over. Interior is holiday inn on the side of a highway conference room chic and is hilarious…aftermarket car play in the future and are good to go. Test drove one after a 300 series gxl and the patrol was miles ahead for on road dynamics. Feels balanced and pointy for a 3 ton truck Landcruisers will have their fans but you cannot beat these things for value and feel good factor.

Love the review, love the vehicle - other than the tatty 'woodgrain'... Why on earth do they persist with something that started look dated at the end of the 1950s! I would still prefer one over the Landcruiser, but would have to find someone that could put carbon wrap or similar on the 'woodgrain'... Thanks for the review Paul
