Hello from the Czech republic. I don't know, what is the pricing in Au, but we don't consider the Octavia as a rival to the Mazda 6 or 508, those are D-segment cars, this a C-segment wagon, competes with Golf Wagon, Focus Wagon, i30 Wagon, Corolla Wagon etc. Althogh it is definitely more spacious than some D-segment cars, but that is the long-term Škoda strategy- to offer a slightly bigger car on a basement of a smaller segment. But other than that, I love your reviews, you are doing a really good job.

I took delivery of one of these 2 weeks ago (a wagon). No volume knob? The LH roller on the steering wheel adjusts the audio volume. I agree with the comment about the DSG, by the way. It is the most refined auto I have ever driven, torque converter or dual clutch. I wouldn't have bought it without the "Premium Pack" which, among other things, allows the driver to create an "Individual" driving mode with that ridiculous fake engine noise turned off. Once that is selected as "D", using the selector to toggle to "S" gives the Sport mode without the engine noise. Annoyingly, it always starts up in "Normal" mode, which has the fake noise, but not as loud as in Sport. So, at every start up, press "Set" key to bring up shortcut for turning off the auto engine stop/start. Then press the "Mode" key and select "Individual". Apparently it's possible to get into the OBD port with a suitable device and turn them both off permanently. Regarding road noise, It is a bit noisy on coarse bitumen but it doesn't really bother me. It's a pity there's no option for 18" wheels though.

I noticed in both recent Skoda reviews (this video and the Karoq) - the check engine lights have been on? Anything to worry about with Skoda reliability?
@johngibson94632 жыл бұрын
Had Karoq for 3 years - no issues, other than failed KESSY batteries.

I think all this car needs is a ecu tune done to give it the bit extra thrill it requires to live up to the RS badge it dons... throw on an upgraded pod filter and few other small stage 1 bits and pieces and it should be a blast to drive

Build like a tank?...I think that should be reserved for the Volvo’s especially when they were built in Gothenburg. Nice review !

You forgot to include the Subaru Levorg for the competition in the sports wagon segment. Any chance for a review of one?
@CarExpertAus3 жыл бұрын
Of course! Forgot about that. Will try and get our hands on one.
@Alan_Garkle3 жыл бұрын
According to Subaru Australia’s website, the Levorg is no longer part of their line up. I looked at one some time ago, and the 6 month service interval put me off, particularly as a low Klm user.

Does the roof open or is it fixed glass? Are the reverse guide lines dynamic? Great review Paul.

I would find the umbrella useful except in my model it’s in the back left door so it’s not much help

In another word, get the 1.6 turbo with 8 speed auto. Plus, Skoda, we need cooling seat more than heated seat here in AUstralia

You answered the one thing i wanted to know, road noise.... They obviously haven't improved it over the mk3 which is a shame. Great review. Ill stick with my mk3 rs230 😁
@rickb3143 жыл бұрын
It's one way they save a buck compared to VW cars, but honestly if road noise is a dealbreaker you probably shouldn't be looking at the performance model on low-profile tyres, perhaps the Style or Ambition models would suit your preferences for smooth/quieter motoring.
@joshgellatly77043 жыл бұрын
@@rickb314 i already own an mk3 rs230, which i paid significantly less brand new than what they're asking for a new Occy RS ($62k+ optioned) so if they're going to jack the price by near enough to 20k i expect a road noise quality to a golf r or audi etc. Its not the same bang for buck value it once was.
@rickb3143 жыл бұрын
@@joshgellatly7704 Totally understand. The brand (and in fact many brands) are now moving upmarket and are no longer the value buys they perhaps once were...

Test drive one of these in the wagon variant the other day really nice car to drive interior really nice But as you mentioned the road noise coming into the interior was a bit load maybe because it’s a wagon , interested if the same for the hatchback I assume a bit less Great thorough review as always 👏👏

I have a MY10 RS wagon and added my own additional sound deadening soon after purchase, beneath the boot trim (floor and walls). Definite improvement for a few hundred bucks and a couple hours of my time.

@@rickb314 nice well done I am thinking that’s why Skoda supply the rubber tray in the boot 😂😂😂😂
