Thanks Mark Hallberg!!! I wish she would. As you know there’s always more than one way to do a job. I’m a practical guy with a tonne of renovation experience. My method of using a “wood” structural header is plenty for spreading the load bearing value. Truest test of integrity?? Run the Dempster Highway to Tuktoyaktuk and look for deficiencies!!!! There was none!!! Pass it on and don’t worry about trolls!!! Bahahahaha!!! Safe travels my friend!!! All the best!!!

You're one of the few that talked about adding a header for support. Great art work from the wife. 😊👍👩🎨 Ps congrats. Let see if I can share this to get you over 200.

Well, that is one way to do it. Much easier than welding a cross brace below and above the window like the manufacturer would do if they built it to take windows.
@brucemclean9342 ай бұрын
Sheesh!!! Sorry I missed the comment Dave!!! You’re very right tho, no manufacturer would build like this. However, I feel I’ve re-structured the opening plenty well enough with the adhesion of 3/4” plywood and structural studs. It’s sufficiently spreading the weight loads.

What are all the materials you used for this project? I’ve got the same trailer and I’m planning on doing the same thing you did, any chance you could list out all the materials you used? Thank you!
@brucemclean9342 ай бұрын
Hey there!! The materials are as follows: Interior header. 1. 3/4” exterior grade fir plywood. 2. 2” self taping(for steel) screws. 3. 1 tube PL glue(construction adhesive). Exterior window install: 1. Trailer window of any size. Make sure it comes with the interior trim for sandwiching the wall structure itself. 2. RV mastic roll(similar to plumbers putty). 3. Good quality Polyurethane Sealant. 4. Paintable DAP sealant. The roll of mastic and polyurethane sealant can be bought at an RV store or hardware store. You’ll need a grinder and Zip disk for the steel stud cutting. It’s all really simple to do. Before I started I was sure to watch as many videos of the install that way I can pick up as many pointers before I started. It helps that I’m a tradesman with a tonne of renovation experience so it’s all just made easier by picking up ideas from those who’ve gone before me. I hope you find great success my friend and many happy encounters before you!! Safe travels!!! Bruce out!!!

Polyurethane caulk , good call

I read somewhere that polyurethane sealant is subject to degradation from UV exposure; silicone seems to last longer (20+ years vs 5-10).

I don’t think so. Not the way I would do it. And I don’t think any structural engineer would approve either.

I appreciate your input!! She handled the most extreme of extreme highways last summer namely the Dempster Highway. Zero issues!!! That’s a WIN!!!
@cw7746Ай бұрын
Some people cut the supports in a way that turns them into a flap that supports a wood frame that then you attack the window too. You can then screw the frame into the beams to hold support.
