Cargo Trailer Conversion DONE!

This is part three of my cargo trailer camper conversion. We were able to finish it off and get it out for a week of camping at Rife Lake, in Mossy Rock, WA. This was a fairly simple build on a 5x10 trailer. We only wanted a 12v system and do not need a 110 system. We also have an external composting toilet and a separate shower system vs. putting inside of the trailer. That keeps the trailer simple, affordable, and most importantly of a size that makes it able to be off-road capable. Toward the end of the video I let you know the specifics of what I put into the trailer. If you have any questions be sure and post in the comments section!

Thanks Chris and Susan for sharing your great ideas. Love your camper... My 4x6 v-nose toy hauler-camper-theater is quite a bit more compact. Front 4x5 deck plus roof rack and hitch rack is extra room for 2KW Inv-Generator, Solar pnl, Awning. Planning a folding room pinned onto my ramp that will be outside galley and inside privy w/shower pan. 3 cabinets hold cooking equip. and the 24"TV/entertainment ctr. Twin tri-fold sofa/bed goes in car making room for my scooter. 5K BTU AC, elec heat and induction cooktop complete the collection (so far) And I pull it with a Scion XD getting 20 MPG (headwind) and 28MPG (tailwind)

I look at these trailers as custom tools, made for the specific job the builders want to do. So size of the tool is specific to what you want and need out of it! Enjoy your build!

Thanks! We are really enjoying it. It doesn’t really impact the fuel economy that much. It generally is just terrible. :)

Where you got the struts and what size has struts did you used to hold the rear door to open upwards?

I got them online. I think Amazon. 4535 struts. they do not actually hold the door open but swing it about half way. I hen have some car hood locks that I. use to keep them up. I did it that way because of the force that would push against you when you tried opening the door! thanks for watching!

I do not know. I believe they were custom fabricated at a welding shop.

What rack are you using on the roof?

It was custom made by a local fabricator. It was on the trailer when I bought it.

No. I had miswired it so it was not detecting the current coming back in. Simple mistake and simple fix.

Absolutely love your build! It is decorated so beautifully but planned out so well to use all the available storage nooks. I love all the additional space you get with the awnings for sure! I got a tarp system but this makes me look into the ARB options! The solar system I put in mine is a 100Ah LiFePO4 battery with 30A MPPT charge controller and 2-100W solar panels (I sized my charge controller so I could add an extra 100Ah battery and 200W more in solar panels if needed). It is so worth the extra money for the MPPT charge controller-it gives me better readings on what is going on with my system than having a battery monitor. I also have a fuse panel for all my 12V appliances and a 600W pure sine inverter because I don't have a huge need for a lot of AC power yet.

It was on the trailer when I purchased it. I believe it is the custom work commissioned through a local welder. I believe he also did the fenders.
