I had ripped a lot of Carhartt stuff over the years workin and then doing searches leashed to a SAR/cadaver dog.. constantly dragged trough thorn bushes, fallen pine tree limbs that break and leave sharp ends, dragged over sand dunes and down river beds.. through abandoned structures and construction sites and crack houses, etc. Spouse looked at me after a bad 3 day chase.. thighs ripped through, butt had a triangle rip in it...belt loops ripped out, dirt ground in and sap stuck in them .. She went surfing to find a better answer than the blood soaked Carhartts. 3 days later I got 2 pairs of black Duluth Fire hose work pants.. Never going back, ever! Spent years in the trades until injuries took me out of the field.. wish these were around 30 years ago. The fire hose weave seems to breathe and shed dirt much easier, just let it dry and brush it off with a stiff brush in the field. No more rips from thorns.. yeah they can get through, but don’t tear open. Belt loops never rip out. Pocket you can drop a full sized pistol in and retain it.. put a piece of plastic in those thigh pockets and zero “printing” so you can ask the public questions without them freaking out. Duluth has always been great to us, Wife loves their underwear, shirts, work pants as well .. they just opened a store nearby but we bought online for years prior to that. There are even more durable work clothes out there, well drillers, ocean platform workers and fire jumper need even stronger stuff.. but 5 times the price and pretty stiff until broken in ( fine for boots, but pants.. no).

I am a mix, for rugged outdoor work I will be rebuying Duluth stuff that I had to sell when I went on disability, and Carhartt for more normal wear since they are durable and because they tend to be lighter, more comfortable to me.

I'm 4 years late. But for work jackets and coats it's Carhartt. But only the stupid expensive USA made ones. They have the new rugged force pants that I love. But my go to is the Duluth firehouse flex. Shirts are regular t shirts provided by the boss.

I am a 65yo guy that worked in the aviation warehousing and much more. I have worn Duluth and Carhartt both and I love both of them. With that being said, I absolutely love my Duluth socks, they actually hold up to a lot of wear and don't create holes like most socks do. the pants are rugged and comfortable. I won't ramble on but Both are great products, you would need to try each one to decide what you like.

Duluth. More comfortable, not as stiff. Belt loops are larger for bigger belts. Work in construction you will appreciate the flaps, keeps dust and stuff from getting in. You can flap the covers inside easy access. Pockets are bigger. They have some without the flaps if you don't want them. Sewn in pocket for knee padding that isn't pinching your legs all day long if you need to wear them. Fend off finish, helps to keep you dry from rain and stains. Their lined pants are really, really warm. The relaxed pants are larger legs, I wear a knee brace and greatly appreciate that. The flexfirehose, oh, my the best in movement especially in the summer when you are sweating, well worth the money and they are more durable than regular firehouse.

Unpopular opinion time! I have Carhartt, Duluth, and Wrangler Riggs. I prefer Wrangler mainly because the price point. I wear them all out at about the same rate and Wrangler does a pretty good job balancing out quality for price. I have noticed that wrangler has stopped making the canvas pants though. I was able to get 10 pairs on sale a few years ago and the rip-stop replacements are not great for being a commercial electrician. The major problem I have with carhartt is, the cargo pockets seem to be the weak point in the construction. I always get holes where the pocket points to the crotch. I need cargo pockets at this point, I love them. That being said, Duluth underwear is my favorite piece of clothing ever, period.

I never had Duluth pants since I'm not really in the trenches anymore. wranglers or Smith carpenter pants last me 2 or more years. But... in my opinion... Duluth tee shirts are the best. The fit is fantastic. I'm a well rounded (a-hem) guy. A 2x shirt fits like no other shirt I've bought before. Even carhardt fits a little snug around the belly. The Duluth are heavy duty. The don't shrink that I've noticed. I still have 4 year old tees with no noticeable fading, stretching or thinning out. I bought Duluth coats for the winter and I like the fit better than carhardts. The carhardts jackets are either too short or the longer style is too boxey. The Duluth are long enough so I can bend without exposing my lower back and has more of a functional shape. So... thats just my experiences

I know, they're trying to modernize their products, and making things "slimmer" by removing a lot of their materials that added that great durability and quality. I wanted to rebuy the same work pants I had from 8 years ago, nothing wrong with them, still in great condition, I just wanted to have a spare for the colder months; so I go onto their site, and they no longer make it, instead, they offer the "newer" model, I go ahead and order it. The older quilted lined work pants have been replaced with flannel lined pants. What use to be a jacket for you legs in the old model is now just regular pants with pajamas bottoms sewn into the lining. They were completely subpar to what they use to make. So I go hunt down every mom and pop store that would carry the brand, hoping that they might still have some for sell, be it no one bought them from them, or whatever. Unfortunately, I didn't find a pair. But that's what I've noticed about them, they're not building quality garments anymore, they're an established brand, and feel like they cheapen their standard because they're so trusted. Now if you want their proven durability, you have to buy their premium line, meaning same old quality, but a bigger price tag.
@JJ-lu6mg6 жыл бұрын
Carl Murawski I believe the problem with Carhartt as far as their quality today. I think a lot of the fashion version of there clothline is getting mixed up with their original gear. Carhartt has a lot of different options now from very heavy duty to light weight durability work cloths on top of their fashion line and it just making it harder for most people to know what to buy for work.

I’ve worn Carharrt pants off and on, and my biggest complaint is they never fit right. Something about the cut does not fit. Particularly, the crotch is too tight and the front pockets are too close together. Leg pockets are not placed where my hands naturally fall to grab tools. I’ve moved on to Duluth. Specifically their flex firehose paints. They are no where near as durable as their regular firehose, but for the type of work I do, they are the best. I need the cargo pockets and the flap on the rear pockets. My only complaints with the paints, is that they have a sizing problem and they shrink up and you get high waters. I can order 3 pair, and at least one pair does not fit like the other 2. It seems to be with a particular color and I always end up sending pair back and/or sticking to 2 colors. For the high water shrinkage, I order the next longer length and after about 4 heavy duty washing and drying cycles they fit perfectly. I’ve tried their polos, and it’s a great polo. But, they went too crazy in length. Sure, no plumbers crack, but untucked, you’re wearing a dress. And Filson? Brand new? I wouldn’t call 1887 “new”. But alas, I can’t afford them anyway.

Spent some time as a fitter and then a welder, have used most brands of work clothes and found these to best "bang for buck" in their areas. Carhartt Coveralls as a cold layer but you will need more on the river in Ohio, Dickey for lighter duty, Carhartt pants and Wells Lamont jackets. All shirts shrink eventually so gussets are nice but stick to flannel mostly. All of these items have remained wearable/usable for at least a work year, most last longer because I have more than one, which makes them more economical too. Longer post than usual, but I like your channel. Why does no one talk about socks, every bit as important as other high wear garments.

Thanks for the great review. Since the Duluth store opened in St.Charles,MO, I’ve become a Duluth junkie. The trick to save on their products, is to get on their email list. My favorite items are the Duluth flex and dry on the fly pant and shorts. I’m very picky on size and color of any purchase, so it’s nice that I can go to their store and try them on. Almost every item I’ve purchased, has been on sale for 30-40% off! I have a carhart jacket with bibs that is 14 years old that I still wear. It’s strange that the Duluth store that I mentioned is next door to a carhart store that seems largely ignored!?

I am actually a sales associate for Duluth and not too long ago I was talking with a trucker and he said every piece of clothing he owns is Duluth and doesn't buy anything else. I was honestly pretty surprised just the fact that he doesn't get anything else. So most of the time he spends almost a grand when he comes to the store. I have to say since I have been working here and have had the chance to try their clothes ( where one of their armachillo polos right now matter of fact), they are probably some of the best clothing I have ever worn and have been quite impressed. If you don't like the price so much( which I encourage people to bite the bullet because they are worth the money), don't worry there is their 40 grit line where they will cut a few corners to make their products cheaper but still keep them the highest quality.
