Important topic that is not discussed very often on most orchid videos. Lovely photography!

This was very helpful. Thank you for sharing. I’m a new grower, in NCentral Texas. Our weather fluctuates and although I’m an indoor grower, thus far, I see the importance of being a keen observer and adapting.

You mentioned orchids don’t like cold wet feet so don’t water in the evening...what is considered cold? I’m a new orchid grower/collector and I have watered in the evening. My orchids are indoors under grow lights with a ceiling fan and humidifier running 24/7, and my house thermostat set to 65. I live in the south so our outside winter temps are usually between 40 and 70 degrees for the majority of winter. Such great info in your videos!

Well, it’s about time! Where ya bin? Seriously, it’s good to see you back on the tube. Had to smile a bit here cos I’m doing most of my watering in the evening cos it’s so darn hot. I promise though when winter comes I won’t.

Thanks for the great video, Carlos! I am new to your site and I always enjoy fellow orchid growers info on growing their orchids. Since I live in Alberta, Canada, of course, I have no choice but to bring them into my home. But I hope to have a 4 season greenhouse within the next year or so.

Carlos! Long time man! Just one correction about cold feet. This really only applies to the intermediate up to hot growers. Things like Masdevallias, Zygopetalums, Draculas and many of the former Odontoglossums don't mind cold wet feet. I keep my Zygos wet always, cold (well, as cold as we get in far south Florida) or hot. I don't change much in winter, other than dropping the quantity of feed (not the frequency, just the amount) and maybe reducing watering depending on temps.

Michael McCarthy Hey! Happy new year! Thanks for that correction. I should have specified which types of Orchids I was referring to in the “Cold Feet” segment. I was mainly talking about Cattleya species and hybrids, I did not consider the other genus’ 😅 Thank you!

Hey PhalPal Carlos thanks for posting a video. I have two Cattleyas that has never bloomed. Would you suggest putting them outside when the temperature permits. Any advice would be helpful. Please help.

Excellent video Carlos ! I just added a 6" fan to my light cart...turns on automatically with the lights set for 16 hr. day. During the Summer all orchids go outside. Night time temps are kept at 65f.

Hi Carlos, thanks for the great advice. It’s 61 degrees right now, supposed to be a low of 55 tonight. Happy 2020. I like the orchid at 8:27.

I am planning on growing cattleya seedlings in my new apartment, but the thing is, winter temperatures might go down to even 13-12·C at night indoors because there might be no heating system. So, what I plan on doing is...using a heat mat at night. I hope it will do a good job. I guess that if I managed to grow Adenium seedlings using my heat mat at night my cattleya seedlings will do ok at least. What will actually happen remains to be seen.

I wonder if anybody has any advice on handling winter mealy bug explosion? I have my plants outside for the summer and treat them with a systemic insecticide before bringing them in. Suddenly they are everywhere! I can't use systemic inside because of the smells. I either use insecticidal soap or wiping with alcohol. Anyone have a solution? They are grown under lights ( LEDs and t5s) and I run a humidifier.
