Top fight , Groves proved not only does he belong at the top level but also he can conduct himself like a champion. An honest and emotional press conference i think we have all witnessed the beginning of a new era in British boxing and a future legend within the British ranks. Well done George ..

George groves has deffinately proved his worth. As he says here, from being booed into the arena, bias sky sports broadcasting and interviewing bar Jim watt, splitting with his trainer a few weeks before the fight and still being able to produce such a performance is something everyone should respect. There wasn't even any George groves merchandise on sale in the arena! Controversial desicion but not much more can be said other than a rematch needs to be made.

the shots that Groves hit Froch with would have probably knocked out any other super middle weight in the world, with the exception of Ward you could put Groves in with any of the top ten and i'd be confident about him winning, this kid is the future of the division
@WelshChappie11 жыл бұрын
I said the same that if he landed that right hand on any of the Super-Middleweights, Ward included I in my opinion, they'd go down. Some wouldn't get up, a few probably would but very badly hurt. Usually a fighter has either punch power or he has speed, very rarely will a boxer have both but Groves has good hand speed and devastating punching power. David Haye is another example of having both fast and heavy hands. Must be something to do with Adam Booth lol.
@Venom841911 жыл бұрын
Froch was very lucky the bell came so close after he was sparkled on the canvas. Groves would have ended it if there was another minute or so to go in the round. That is a fact.
@WelshChappie11 жыл бұрын
Fact is that Froch looked far more out on his feet after he was floored in round 1 than Groves looked in round 9 when the ref deemed Groves unfit to continue. He got put down dead centre of the ring, and got back to his feet & staggered backwards into the ropes that kept him from falling back to the floor again. He staggered all over the place backwards into the ropes and the ref deemed that he was ok to continue. George is taking shots on the ropes, yes they are heavy, but his gloves are up protecting himself and he's throwing back at Froch. He's not even gone to one knee and the ref stops it. Is that consistency? I it fair? Is it showing bias for the champion to give him the benefit of the doubt? You decide,
@emekonen11 жыл бұрын
Look, I would rather the ref stop it early than too late, honestly. I dont want, as I am sure you dont, to see a guy get hurt.
@WelshChappie11 жыл бұрын
John Apocalypse No I don't, that's why I am saying that based on Froch being all over the place staggering back onto the ropes and stumbling around when he got back to his feet after Groves had floored him, then the ref should have stopped it then for Carl's health, safety and well being. You can't decide "Well he's the champion so I'll have to give him the benefit of the doubt and let him carry on despite being all over the place on his feet.
@kiely456111 жыл бұрын
John Apocalypse this is the hurt game mate, Groves deserved the benefit of the doubt, its not like he was doing an Amir khan dance in there, Lucian Bute was having his head snapped back like a rag doll and he was still allowed to continue, at the end of the day it was a terrible refereeing decision that gave an inconclusive ending to an otherwise very good fight
@punchymick480411 жыл бұрын
John Apocalypse what is all this groves hurt he wasnt hurt at all he got hit with 2 shots and the rest missed and landed on the gloves
@WelshChappie11 жыл бұрын
kiely 456 Lucian Bute is irrelevant, Bute hadn't offered anything to Carl by way of deterrent to give carl cause for concern so he dominated from the first bell. Groves came out, stood centre ring with Carl as Carl said Groves wouldn't do, and exchanged punches. Carl has said for months that if Groves tried to have a tear up with Him, Groves would hit the floor. Groves traded punches in Round one and landed one big right hand, and then Carl started doing what he'd said Groves would and he backed away onto the ropes. Groves cut the ring off and cornered him and they exchanged several blows. Carl tires to fight his way off the ropes and steps into Groves punching range and one two combo landed by Groves flush on Carl's whiskers and he dropped like a sack of shit, and when he got up, he almost did a dance as comical as Amir Kahn's award winning dance.

I don't like Groves and I've been a big Froch follower for many years. But you have to feel for Groves. He imo was way ahead on points and maybe he would of got knocked down. But he wasn't hurt enough to stop the fight. He was throwing punches back and 5 seconds after the ref jumps in he's not wobbling or having glazed eyes. Makes me think Ward would slaughter Froch after this though.

Thank you for the videos I saw the CARL FROCH v GEORGE GROVES fight last night via a foreign station with foreign commentary. I turned OFF the commentary and just watched the nine rounds with the image only (and sound and commentary OFF) Just watching the pictures - it seemed Champion Mr froch seemed slightly slower and more haggard than Mr Groves. Mr groves seemed more stronger and more aggressive throughout the 9 rounds? The refree just stopped the fight as the challenger was going onto the referee’s body as Mr froch was punching Mr groves and the ref stopped the fight? George LOOKED more active and fresher than the champ.
@WelshChappie11 жыл бұрын
I lost count the number of times Froch told Groves in the Months building up to the fight "Don't run away for 12 rounds, stand and fight me! If you stand and have a tear up with me your getting knocked out." It's funny, as the first right hand that Groves lands in round one see's Carl quickly back off and onto the ropes, he ran from Groves not the other way round. Groves cut the ring off and cornered the cobra with his back to the ropes and a brief flurry was thrown by both with Groves again landing a half decent overhand right and Froch responds by trying to fight his way off the ropes instead of side stepping Groves and out of his range, he steps forward and the two are now within the others punching range. Froch throws a left & right which graze Groves, and Groves deliver a one two left right of his own and Carl's Chin, along with his knees and legs, fail and he is not just put on his ass, he's flattened on his back. He gets back up and is so out of it that he's bouncing around off the ropes, staggering all over the shop, and looking as though he seems to think he's on strictly come dancing again wobbling all over the place, yet he's deemed able to continue. He then spends rounds 2 -8 on the back foot backing away and 'running away' from Groves. Then in the Ninth Groves, having not even gone to one knee to take a standing 8, is stopped. Not by Carl Froch, but the fights referee. the ref dives in signalling that the fight is over because Groves is standing with back to ropes, both gloves up to his head in a protective position and doing what the ref told them to do before the first bell, that being 'protect yourselves at all times'.

To be fair most of us thought that Froch would KO/TKO Groves. Groves has been dropped by Froch in sparring and also by Anderson so you can see why people thought that and why Froch kept saying that. Groves said he would KO Froch and he didnt ? Towards the end of the fight Froch was pressuring and landing shots and Groves wasn't countering like he was earlier in the fight. Groves was slumped and had his back turned, not good. 3 rounds left and i don't think Groves would have still been there
@Aspire8511 жыл бұрын
RibenaSpring I think it's brave you stepping up and speaking on behalf of 'most people' because I'm yet to find many that share your views with Froch winning that fight. Boxers do get staggered in fights but they also recover. I lost count of the amount of times Froch was staggered, unless his footwork drastically dropped to shit overnight and that was how he usually held his stance?
@Adz198411 жыл бұрын
A spire What i mean is most people who thought Carl would win thought he would win by KO/TKO due to the reason i mentioned. Froch did win that fight didnt he ? Its a 12 round contested, doesn't matter if Groves was ahead or not. Groves was ahead by 1 round on two cards and 4 on the other with 3 championship rounds left. No one cares how many times you think Froch got "staggered" you wasn't taking the punches. Even if Froch was staggered it wasn't enough for the ref to stop the fight by TKO unlike Groves who slumped his head and turned his back. He should have taken a knee but he must have been buzzed too much. Froch had him on a plate. You have your opinion, i have mine. Froch won the fight Groves didnt.

Besides the stupid...stupid stoppage, there was so much bullshit with Foster and the Judges. 1. how did 2 of the judges have groves only 1 round up ( i had him 6 rounds up with the 10-8 round) 2.How many times was Froch told to stop headbutting, elbowing etc.?? the ref was about to take a point off him in one of the later rounds then he shat himself with the boos of the crowd and didn't do anything. 3.When Foster stopped the fight he did not protect Groves and he took two very un needed body shots because he couldn't get away. 4.Finally if the ref stopped the fight because of Groves taking too much punishment, how could he let the fight continue after the first round when Froch was floored?? I hope Grove goes to WBA or IBF and demand an immediate rematch if the deal falls through ( which i think it will because he could never take that kind of punishment again).

Groves deserves much respect for the way he rose to the occasion not forgetting all of the things that happened to him leading up to the fight, breaking up with his long time trainer, having to train in an amateur gym, being a heavy underdog and then to put in such a stunning performance, pure class. Froch knows he got lucky, he was slow, awkward, predictable. I would be surprised if he gave Groves a rematch! Groves should focus on beating the Kesslers and Butes of the world and then challenge for a world title at the ane of 2014. Gotta love Paddy as well, top man.

I kept saying to my mate the longer this goes and its a slug fest like it was, froch will finish it, That ref wants sacking and should be made to refund all the box office and ringside out of his own money, shocking, he ruined an all time classic. Groves deservered that fight, who knows what would of happened, we will never know. its sickenening seeing a ref do that in such an amazing world title fight, im all for fairness and Groves was cheated. Groves looked oustanding, i knew it would come down to tuffness and man Groves it tuffer than we all thought, he stood and swung haymakers with Froch. Rematch in vegas I say
@WelshChappie11 жыл бұрын
It's Groves I really feel for. He comes in to the ring to boo's and jeer's. Bookmakers, pundits and general public don't give this 'inexperienced' young pretender much or any chance of winning. Then the bout begins and within 3 minutes Carl is laid out in the center of the ring and get's up and is stumbling foreward, backwards, to the side, all over the place but 'fit to fight on'. Then rounds 2 through 8 Groves youth shows as he is faster, more accurate punches landing, and when the bell sounds to end round 8, one judges score card had Groves 5 rounds up, another 2 rounds up. So Groves had floored Carl early on, out-boxed him from rounds 2 - 8 and worked so hard to now be in a position where it's the Champion going to need to stop the challenger to win the fight rather than the other way around as everyone expected and yet, just as he's done all that hard work to get to that position where he's 12 minutes away from hearing the score card's read out followed by the words "And the New, WBA AND IBF Super-Middleweight Champion of the World..." Just as he's done everything that so many said he couldn't, the ref takes all of his hard work and effort and makes it all for nothing and meaningless now by stopping the bout citing Groves in no fit state to continue when Groves wasn't half as hurt as Carl was in the first round. Criminal!
@ukogmickey11 жыл бұрын
I know m8 I hear you. I like both fighters, I did initially think froch be too much, but wow groves looked incredible, I knew frochs heavy shots would come thru towards end, however that stoppage was not the end, nowhere near, I feel for him too, he deserved to see it thru. Its not carls fault either, its that ref, and trust me I found his facebook page and was told what I thought, disgraceful.
@WelshChappie11 жыл бұрын
Michael Holmes I know mate. The way I look at it is like this: If the referee deemed Groves too badly hurt to continue (when Groves hands were up and he;s still throwing punches back at Carl) and this is going to be the justification for stopping it, then I would reply that in that case then we should not even be here discussing this ninth round decision to stop it because the incident shouldn't have happened.... Nor should round nine for that matter, in fact the bell for the second round should never have been rang because in the first Froch was flattened, not just put on the seat of his pants, but flat on his back and when he returned to his feet and the ref motioned for Carl to walk forward toward him Carl responded by staggering and falling backward onto the ropes and was literally all over the place, if anyone can look me in the eye and tell me that Groves was hurt worse in round Nine than Carl was in Round 1, i'll be more than happy to laugh in their face. You know why the ref didn't stop it in the first round? Because it was the first round! Imagine all the unsatisfied fans in the crowd and the Boooo's that would echo around the arena? We wouldn't want that would we so we better let the fight go on. That why I aint having it that the ref stopped it because he's such a moral man and was concerned for the safety of the fighter because if he was, he'd have stopped it in round 1
@ukogmickey11 жыл бұрын
The ref hasnt got a leg to stand on with this, he was either paid, which I hate to say, or he was personally favouring a fighter. He is too experienced of a ref to do what he did and justify it as the right decision. Trust me I was so pissed off and angry I posted allsorts on his facebook. Not because I wanted carl to lose, I love watching him fight, simply because I felt cheated and robbed of an all time classic
@WelshChappie11 жыл бұрын
Michael Holmes I was angry also, but my anger at him is not because of depriving me of 4 more exciting rounds, that would have been nice yes but my anger at the referee is for what his actions have done to George. That kid had to fight back tears in the post fight conference because this is his life, his dream, the thing he's worked so hard to achieve all his adult life, and one man makes a ridiculous decisions and all that is snuffed out in the blink of an eye. Like I said, everything was againt Groves, the Bookmakers gave him no chance, the pundits said his inexperience will show and Carl will be too strong and push Groves back, and if they gave him little to no chance when the fight was announced, then splitting wth trainer Adam Booth weeks before the fight just put the icing on the cake. Yet after all that, he comes out and the very first right hand he lands Carl reacts by doing what he said Groves would, go on the backfoot and run away. He backed up onto the ropes, and when he tried to punch his way off them Groves flattened him. The for the next seven rounds Carl, the man who had consistently said Groves won't stand and fight but will run away for 12 round on the backfoot, himself is in the backfoot running trying to avoid another one of Grove's right hands. Then when Groves stepped out for round 9, he had already won the fight and all he had to do was avoid being KO'd. George successfully did this and Carl wasn't able to stop him, so the ref decided to help carl and deliver a Knock Out blow of his own to Groves.
@Beej210811 жыл бұрын
The consensus opinion is the stoppage was a little premature and 'more importantly'... oddly - handled. And that's what makes all the difference, here - esp. when you see the judges' dodged -up scorecards meant Groves WAS going to get jobbed!.

I really take my hat off to groves he fought a really intelligent fight and you could tell he did his homework on froch but the fact of the matter remains that froch is always a threat if he is still on his feet. Speed always slows down in a fight but power often remains, this was the case. Up til the stoppage froch had caught groves with some good shots, head an body. And I do believe if the fight didn't stop in the 9th it would have been stopped in the next 3 with groves getting ko'd. It deffinately was a premature stop though. No one to blame except the ref, both fighters gave us a terrific fight and the controversy only adds to its greatness!

This fight was Eddie's get-out-of-jail-free ticket, as it meant no-one mentioned the appalling undercard which was served up as part of the box office deal. The fact that the big fight itself ended so controversially was even better, as it gives the opportunity for 'Fast Car' to do the same again in the rematch....
@WelshChappie11 жыл бұрын
Not going to happen. Froch is not stupid, he is well aware that George out-boxed him, and he knows now just how hard Groves hits. He was losing on the score cards by some margin when it was stopped. This fight Froch had no say in it cause Groves was the mandatory challenger for the IBF so Froch either fights him, or they strip him of the IBF belt. Hear the admission post fight by Rob McCracken? He said that he knew Groves style would cause Carl a lot of problems, he knew how heavy handed Groves was and was a young hungry fighter and said he had stayed away from Groves as a possible voluntary title defence and said when Groves was announced as the mandatory he wasn't over the moon. McCracken knew all along how good Groves was and how he would cause Carl all sorts of problems.

What a shock George made Carl respect him early on and took the fight too him and knocked him down....Froch was way too open took too much punishment from a faster fresher younger fighter the right hand could'nt miss....Groves should have boxed and moved as he was up on the scorecards but was getting caught square which suits Frochs combinations....Froch looked punch drunk, looked crude and wreckless at tmes at was'nt sure what to do and did'nt have an answer to Groves movement....If he did'nt have the chin he has he would of got stopped and was made to look old and if I was him would seriously forget about a rematch with Andre Ward as even a Groves rematch is risky and one that will now be a 50/50 fight....Froch is one dimensional and is not going to change now so forget Ward as he showed tonight he cannot adapt to what his opponent does and kept getting caught with the right hand round after round....

I was the only one saying Groves could do it... foot work and hand speed is something Carl has no answer for, Andre Ward proved this ages ago. Groves proved he had these skills in fights prior to this one.... doesnt take a rocket scientest to work that out.
@scum6811 жыл бұрын
He didn't do it,he run out of gas and Carl got to him. The ref jumps in to early and Froch got deprived of a great comeback stoppage win.

Groves nailed Froch, froch has been spending too long in mascara and make-up and his ego sucks, Groves is a legend, star in the making!

bottom line is groves fought really well for first 11 and made froch look poor. however ref did groves a favour by stopping it because u could see he was getting knocked out he was getting caught clean but now thanks to ref stopping it he has a case for a rematch and can go about saying he was robbed even though he knew there was no way he was making it through those last 4 rounds

massive respect !!! at the end someone from the media says hes a winner , complete bollocks , i know what he means but george does not look like hes won anything he looks gutted , its sickening . froch will be on another planet as usual

No one was robbed, the ref simply made a questionable decision at a difficult time in the fight.
@DeeJay0000111 жыл бұрын
One only thing I have to say is George is the true winner of that fight. He was robbed and treated unfairly by the ref. How many times did Carl hit George after the bell and the elbow for God sakes. To be honest I thought Carl was going to win but George made him look old, slow and ordinary. I'm sure something will come up from Carl to say he cannot honour the rematch, why would he want to take such a beating again. I'm also dissapointed in Carl turning the fight personal by not shaking George's hand over his contraversal win. George has shown himself as the true champion.

I watched Froch Vs Groves fight last night and just watched it again, DISGUSTING refereeing!!!! One of the best referees in the business? B*ll*cks. Groves Knocked Froch down in the 1st, landed massive shots every round, he was more likely to do some serious to Froch than Froch was to him. Whats more worrying, 2 judges only had Groves in front by 1 round 76-75 whilst 1 judge had him ahead by 6 rounds 78-73. What is going on, I thought dodgy refereering and dodgy scoring of a fight only happened in Vegas !!

Froch v Taylor, greatest round of his career. Froch v Bute , greatest fight of his career. Froch v Kessler , greatest story of his career. So many more.... Froch v Groves , I will not let Groves take a dump on all those great moments , to all the people who boo'd Froch , fuck you. :D double posted :D

have to sa Groves was the better man by far on the night and give him the upmost respect. Froch was just not himself though. Whether the last fight with Kessler took a bit too much out of him but he looked like a shot fighter. He had no snap, no movement, no confinedce, he looked planted and unfit at time. That was not the same, great, Cobra

Why do ppl keep saying froch was gona stop him anyway, anything could have happened, in the fight I see groves hurt froch more than froch hurt him so anything could have happened, groves could have went back to boxing after 9, only ppl saying froch was gona stop him anyway is the fans that was sayin froch is gona walk through groves, groves would destroy froch in a rematch, he ain't got no defence and he could ave been dropped in any round
@Rav1ification11 жыл бұрын
What was a worry was how punch drunk Froch was he was throwing crude shots wide and missing and even though Groves was stopped he looked fresher....Froch is too one dimensional and after this I can guarantee he will not rematch Andre Ward not unless he knows its his last fight and can cash out on a huge payday as at the moment a rematch with Groves looks risky and again Froch will take too many shots again and we could see Froch get stopped for the first time as he aged in there tonight,,,,,

Look at Groves, big bruise under each eye and that's with been the pale ginger kid, now look at Froch, lump on each eye, fat lip to one side and a bruise on his forehead, got knocked down and still won. Cheers ref, nice one.
