Robin and Carl Jackson

Күн бұрын

Carl covering "Orange Blossom Special," at The Station Inn, in Nashville, TN. He is joined by Ashley Campbell, Jerry Salley, Larry Cordle, Aubrey Haynie, Larrry Atamanuik, Kat Marx, Doug Jernigan and Mike Bub.
I love how Ashley is learning from Carl!!
Carl states that when he was with Jim and Jesse, at 14, Doug Jernigan would play OBS and Carl had to play it, as well! Carl and Doug have known each other a long time, and to complete the circle, they now play music together every Monday night!
This was a very early video that was given to us, but I apologize for it being all over the place! I do not know who took it to give credit to...

That’s fantastic I don’t ever recall hearing Orange Blossom Special played on a steel guitar or a banjo. But here it was being played on both. Carl is one hellva a banjo player.

Look for an early Doug Jernigan album.

Doug Jernigan has been one of the quickest pedal steel players around for the last 50 years. The quicker the tempo, the better he seems to like it. Carl Jackson is simply from another planet. I used to watch him on the Glen Campbell show many years ago and he was awesome as a young man. I used to enjoy watching Aubrey Haynie on fiddle with The Time Jumpers at the Station Inn. He is super smooth and another world class musician on this amazing clip. One thing that these super pickers have in common is that they are all really nice people. Very humble and modest.

It amazes, no, excites me again and again when I see Carl and Ashley playing the banjo -- on the one hand they go well together, on the other they challenge each other. Great!

I have seen Carl Jackson do the OBS two times. Now, and on the stage at Beanblossom the year Bill Monroe made the album ,I think it was 1973 ? Both times were amazing. The steel was excellent , and the fiddle of Aubrey Haney was all the band at the Station Inn,

Love when you play the banjo. I've said it before, you and Jens Krüger are, in my opinion, in the top '2', best players on the planet. I wish you would play the banjo more, but, I understand...Amazing 🪕👍

Carl recorded this on one of his first solo-albums, unfortunately not available on CD as far as I know, but I had that track on an old LP called “Capitol Country Festival vol.2”. It’s pretty much worn out now, but for me Carl’s version is and allways will be THE definitive version. I’ve spent many hours trying to get it right, even after 30 years of playing. Carl, you nailed it on that album, and again in this video. Well done!👍

So let's get this straight . . . Ms. Campbell is herself a pro banjo player, but her role here is just to mug admiringly and pull her face into one rubbery, wide-eyed, open-mouthed parody of amazement after another at the prowess of all these males? Yikes, it's embarrassing, just cringe-worthy. There's gotta be a better way to make a living
@RobinandCarlJackson
@RobinandCarlJackson 4 жыл бұрын
Wow..So, I will set it straight...if you had the thought process to look at the date on the video, you would see that it was 7 years ago...MS. CAMPBELL was learning the craft then, and she was "wide eyed" or whatever you stated that it was, because she was learning and watching the incredible licks on the banjo from Carl...they are incredibly HARD licks...Oh, licks are the strums on an instrument..As in reference to her rubbery wide eyed open mouth , etc...if you had any kind of compassion, well...I see that you don't...I now know that Ashley's reactions and facial features are far better than yours. And, hun...if you would like to pay $15 on a Monday night, at the Station Inn, you can sit in the audience with the same look of amazement. Why do you have to be so ugly? Could you not just move on? Unbelievable.

@@RobinandCarlJackson I didn't say the male players were not super-good. I defy you to find that kind of exaggerated mugging in a male apprentice player including 8 year olds up on stage with the masters. And Ms. Campbell was not a total green novice at this time. It's weird.
