What I love about Carl Perkins is, this was his tune, but he was genuinely happy to let Ringo sing it. Some artists would be prima donnas, and insist on having the spotlight. Carl Perkins, in addition to being a great songwriter, and perhaps the greatest rockabilly artists of all time, I think was genuinely flattered to have the great ex-Beatle Ringo perform one of his tunes. I think he loved sharing his music, and the fact that some of the best rock musicians of all time idolized him was as gratifying as if he'd had the same success as Elvis, the Beatles, and other greats who had performed his tunes. He didn't get the recognition he deserved from the larger public, but he sure did from his fellow professionals.

Carl Perkins invented rock a billy. Elvis Presley stole it just like he stole all his songs from other artists
@Hibernicus19682 ай бұрын
@@lenihlenfeldt1035 Elvis didn't "steal" anything. Elvis was simply like the vast majority of other singers at the time: he sang songs other people wrote. In that he was no different than Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Bing Crosby, Ray Charles, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, and many, many, many more. In fact, that was the usual model before Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly, The Beatles, and other rock and roll acts changed expectations -- most singers were not songwriters. You might as well accuse Luciano Pavarotti of "stealing" Nessun Vesti la Giuba, La Donna è Mobile, or any other of the arias he sang.
@nvs61772 ай бұрын
@@Hibernicus1968 No, you're wrong. Elvis did in fact STEAL. This is well documented at this point. If you don't believe it, go watch Otis Blackwell's interview with David Letterman. Not only did he steal songs, he literally stole his entire presentation from black artists and the black church. He's the biggest fraud in music history.

Watching Ringo do this so effortlessly is a reminder that while he may not be a technical genius, his ability to sing, hold a groove and do what the song demands of him means he remains one of the best rock drummers of his generation. His drum fills probably won't make it into drum books, but the way he approaches his drumming is something every drummer can learn from.
