The manager of a sports club does a lot of behind the scenes and support work. This includes setting up for practice (getting the net ready, making sure the balls have enough air), support during practice and games (support by tossing or getting balls during drills, keeping statistics, getting water to drink, helping with stretches, getting tape or other supplies necessary for a teammate, keeping score), and then doing things after practice and to get ready for future games/events (cleanup, making sure everyone has their stuff, collecting information for the coaches, distribution and collection of papers that need to be signed etc). It’s not glamorous work, but it is helpful for the team

16:50 (High school) manager duties generally include: communicating with the managers and coaches of other schools when there are practice matches, drafting up letters to be shown to school faculty when there are club activities that interfere with class hours, managing equipment, gathering info and stats about players to be presented to the coaches for analysis, coordinating with the media if necessary, etc. Kiyoko is not a coach, she's actually a third-year like Daichi and Suga are. Karasuno doesn't have a coach at present because they've lost their reputation (the flightless crows, fallen champions). The other guy (Takeda) is just a club advisor. In Japan, you need a club advisor in order to be recognized as a club and perform activities. However, since at this point in time, volleyball really wasn't that popular, they could only get one of the school's literature teachers to be their club advisor---someone with very little knowledge about the sport.

Fyi, aoba johsai (seijoh) offered kageyama but kageyama rejected them because he knows his former teammates mostly go to that school, instead he choose shiratorizawa (will be introduced later) but he got rejected then he went to karasuno. and Oikawa entered the chart!! I am so glad you guy's are enjoying this show, but mark my words this show is MUCH more amazing and you'll get a glimpse of the emotional storytelling that it's capable of in the next few episodes (I recommend Carlie to have her tissues ready lol). 5:47 Tanaka is absolutely one of the many loved characters but he unfortunately doesn’t get enough love in the public polls. Goes to show just how many amazing characters are in this anime. 16:50 She is not the Coach, I'm afraid. I'm not from Japan but back in India we sometimes had managers for the sport teams that are bringing success to the school (I played basketball and we didn’t have one even tho we won tournaments but our cricket team did ffs they never won anything btw ig cricket is just way more famous in Australia and in India). Their role is to help the team and coaches with stuff like arranging the bibs, making sure the bottles are filled with water/gatorade and small errands such as these. 18:22 Senpai refers seniors i.e. students who are grades above you e.g. Tanaka is Sho's and Kageyama's Senpai as they are first years and Daichi and Suga are Tanaka's Senpai as Tanka is a second year and Daichi Suga are third years. Sensei is master/teacher. So Ange it was your English "Sensei" also I'm glad to know you had no rizz much like myself 😭. Absolutely here for these stories lol Also I apologize if I hyped this show up too much but this show and Vinland Saga, both have helped me come out of depression. I relate a lot with both these shows, so there definitely is a bias here but objectively as well these shows are very well written. In Japan, people who are close to you usually call you by your given name. The name format is [FAMILY NAME] [given name]. Here's a list of the current characters so far and their year. It varies from team-to-team, but things like record-keeping for each player (who's struggling to get their serves in, for instance, who's improved, so the coach can decide whether to pivot to something else or give that player more time), set up and takedown of equipment, timekeeping, scorekeeping, as well as maintenance of equipment (like a kit man on a pro soccer team). No spoilers, but you'll get a better idea of the manager's role and contribution as the series goes on. :)

The word “manager” for Japanese sports clubs is quite misleading. It usually just means a team assistant, who supports players by preparing drinks, cleaning up equipment and stuff. Kiyoko is still an important character for the team tho. She's not very talkative yet mentally supports them when they need her.

Sorry but his team - and other kids in general - were a dick toward Kageyama first. Kunimi and Kindaichi didn't do the right thing by abandoning him in the middle of the court giving how mentally vulnerable he was. Kageyama is the one that can have a genuine grievance toward them, because their ratio of power was disproportionate. He was alone and his whole team plotted against him. Don't forget that he was mourning his grandpa at that time - the only human being that apparently cared for him - , he had been bullied by Oikawa whom he looked up to, he was rejected and mocked by the other kids because he only cared about volleyball, and marginalized by his teammates because he was too good and they couldn't catch up (like Kunimi and Kindaichi, even though in their case, laziness is also involved). Besides, Kageyama is only a kid, he was 15, he was alone and lonely, he didn't know what he was doing and he had no mean to fathom what he was doing and the tyrant he was becoming. Kunimi, Kindaichi and their team PURPOSELY did what they did, they knew the consequences it could have on a vulnerable Kageyama. It was getting difficult to cope up with Kageyam's behavior, I get that, but the thing with geniuses is that they're so passionate about something they can't realize how far they go. Kageyama didn't want to hurt anyone, he wanted to play the longest possible (maybe in order not to think about death and ease his pain ?). But Kunimi and Kindaichi didn't just made him "open his eyes". They caused him a trauma, that he's carrying until late in the series. And I think Kunimi and Kindaichi are the last persons on Earth who have the right to "put a foot down about someone's behavior". Just for that THEY are the dickheads.

Yes kageyama is genius, yes he understands that moving ball from point A to point B will maximize teams odds of scoring but that is all irellevant if you are not playing to your teammates strengths, it is literally as suga said, he is dampening their talent instead of nurturing it. Kageyama describes setter role as a control tower, before joining karasuno he was control freak and saw others as pawns in his game. It was not nice what they did to him and you are not wrong with what you said, but you make it look like kindaichi and kunimi and other teammates did what they did for no other reason but because they are assholes or dickheads. They did what they did because kageyama did not respond to anything else they tried prior, no matter how many times they told him, no matter how mad and angry they get... they tried nice, diplomatic, and they tried angry and hostile approach. when nothing worked they simply gave up. they ended up causing kageyama trauma and scaring him for a long time but as person above you pointed out, they are just kids. this situation and what happened is result of two wrongs, that is why its ugly from all sides cause both sides are wrong and have regrets about it... that is what is so beautiful about the little side story arc kindaichi and kunimi have with kageyama throughout the main plot of anime... to run their story through the mud and boil it down to making kindaichi and kunimi into bullies is disrespectful

And yet they seized this right and did what is more of a public humiliation than anything else. Of course Kageyama was doing wrong, there is no doubt about that. But he couldn't realize he was doing wrong. Kunimi, Kindaichi and their whole team were outnumbering him, physically and psychologically. This couldn't end well. Obviously adults are missing in all of this, but Kindaichi and Kunimi are the ones who made this situation switch from bad to catastrophic. And Kindaichi showing remorses long after these events, shows he knows they were in the wrong and that he wishes they had done differently.

18:06 Im not sure if they already explained this on Patreon but Kiyoko Mizuki is the team manager, they don’t get involved with couching. The team manager basically takes care of the teams needs; like cleaning the uniforms, brings them water, keeping score, organizing some files etc. Their teacher Takeda, is there to supervise the team. It is required to have a teacher from school to travel with them. Random adult couch can’t travel alone with the students. Takeda is not their couch, but he is in charge of making this matches happen.

Oikawa is the best character in this show which is saying a lot cuz there's not one character in this series i don't like. Now that the first opposing team is introduced, I really hope you guys will be open minded when it comes to other teams and not think of them as some types of villains cuz they're all there to play the sport they're passionate about. All the teams esp some players have dreams and are really competitive. I really hate haikyuu/ sports anime reactors that think other characters don't get to be competitive just because they're not the main character. This show has amazing character writing, opposing players are amazing characters and they have personalities of their own, looking at them like they're "bad" just because they're not in karasuno team will make it really hard for you to appreciate them. Getting to appreciate all the characters/ players in the show is the best part of my haikyuu experience. I hope you guys won't be biased. I'm keeping my expectations low bc u guys are sensitive about the little teasing/ mocking going on within Karasuno's team (what more if other teams start acting up, yall gonna probably think theyre evil), it's not bullying, they're all in high school, they're playing around and it's supposed to be funny. They're going to be little sh*ts to each other cuz they're friends. It's better to get over it early.

Hinata Shoyo. Hinata is his last name and Shoyo is his first. His friends from junior high were close to him so called him by his first name. Since he does not know his current teammates as well, they just call him by his last name. It's quite common in Japanese high school for classmates to refer to each other by last names only. Senpai means upperclassman. Daichi, Suga, and Kiyoko are third years, Tanaka is a second year, and Hinata, Kageyama, Tsukishima and Yamaguchi are first years. The latter four will call the others senpai. Lots of sports clubs in Japan have "managers", a position that is usually filled by a female student. They handle things like paperwork, getting sports equipment, uniforms, and such. They also keep tabs on how each player is doing in games, stats wise.
