I definitely agree that it's about vearth as a resource and how, original homeland or not, as long as it's there, everybody will have a somewhat justified desire to use it. But there is also the layer of Gan Fall trying to establish diplomacy by connecting on a human level and sharing his comparatively insignificant desire. But he totally underestimates the generational harm their displacement has caused the Shandians and how he is speaking from a place of such immense privilege, that this will only ring like mockery in Wyper's ears.

Gan Fall was giving an example of the following idea: Since the last 400 years of having Vearth the Skypieans have grown so accustomed to having things that only it can provide that it's part of their own culture and lives for many generations. It has mixed with the original cloud portion of the area to the point where life there would be too different for them to just give it back. The example was terrible in this situation, as it would be perceived as caring only for luxury items (pumpkin juice) for themselves rather than necessities for others, especially by the unreasonably hotheaded Wyper. Wyper wanted the whole Upper Yard for only the Shandians, whereas Gan Fall was trying to figure out how to share it. There's more to Wyper's 'resolve' than what most people know about though. Of course, Eneru was stronger than either faction and just took everything for himself later, which halted any progress of negotiation even if it was slow. Luffy's song is part of why One Piece is so beloved IMO. His inner monologue is almost nonexistent, so we get moments like this. Chopper has a bunch of inner monologue, so he's shot up the rankings for you guys lately. The Straw Hats are good characters in a group or by themselves.

I took Gan Fall's comment in a different direction. Rather than trying to suggest that because it had been in their possession for so long that it would be difficult to part with luxury items like pumpkin juice (which is true, but served by the rest of his argument), he was trying to connect to Wyper on a more basic human level. Not talking about ownership or rights or history, but a simple basic statement. "I like pumpkin juice" with the implied question: what are your favorite foods? It was a poor choice of moment and delivery, Wyper was never going to respond kindly or calmly in that moment, but his motive makes sense: we're having difficulty relating to each other on our most basic of levels here, so let's put that aside for a moment and approach each other as people first. Find some common ground, something without stakes, something easy... like juice.

The pumpkin juice comment is to try to connect with the Shandians by showing a very common, human preference that he probably has in common with a lot of them. To try to not approach them as the god of Skypiea, but as a person just like them. A place to start to see what they have in common rather than what separates them, and to try to build from that basic point. Wyper, however, took it as Gan Fall not taking their conflict seriously enough, that he's treating their centuries of conflict as something trivial. Who is correct? Well, what I love so much about Oda's writing is that he doesn't really set it up that way. He presents viewpoints and makes you understand where each position comes from and then you can decide for yourself. Usually it's not one that's completely wrong and one that's completely right, in my opinion.

The sad part about this arc is that we never hear full Luffy's song. About the pumpkin juice thing, although unintentional, it's like Gan Fall was mocking Shandians. Imagine Shandians not being able to access their homeland and here comes a guy who stole their land and talks about loving something they won't be able to get ever. Gan Fall probably wanted to connect with Shandian by talking about something common and could connect both of them to Vearth, but it backfired there.

I took the pumpkins thing to be a potential point of trade/partnership, pumpkins in the real world were developed in the Americas by the native population. The pumpkins are probably original to Jaya and the upper yard, and Gan Fall probably wants to share upper yard and grow pumpkins to support all the sky people.

Thanks for the kind words legend! It depends how hard the song is to learn but generally it takes around an hour or so to figure out how to play it and how I want to record it. Then the recording process takes between 2-5 hours generally. And then filming the cover and editing it takes around an hour. So all in all, probably between 5-10 hours per cover depending on the difficulty!

I think the scene is open to interpretation. The way I perceived it is: He wanted to reach out and try to show Wyper that they are both human and can relate to each other, so he was telling Wyper a small personal detail, maybe hoping Wyper would do the same. Misguided, but I think he was trying to create a rapport between him and the Shandians.

The pumkin situation was a way for Gan Fall to say he (and his people) is accustomed to having Vearth now and he has grown attached to pumpkins which you cant grow on the sky island clouds (you need vearth)/his people have grown attached to earth, making vearth part of their identity now too. It was a gentle way of saying, we will give your land back but you have to share now that we also classify it as an essential part of our day to day life. Wiper wasn't happy with that, giving rules and conditions to 'his' land.

Gan (head of colonizers) came to negotiate a peace (not a real peace, if you ask me) Wyper (indigenous youth leader ) was like why now you think I'm going to respect a peace agreed on by two boomers? Gan goes on some bullshit about how his people are too used to the comforts of the land so that cant do the right thing and give the land back,#SoryNotSory. Wyper gets pissed and says there are no innocent sky people, what if we start targeting them too not just your heavenly squad (security forces), this is where I see Gan, understandably, getting angry about Wyper suggesting attacking civilians. Wyper adds that if he wants a peace to bring him 100 of his poeples heads and starts to walk away, Gan tells him if he doesn't want to loose his head to stop and tells him the thing about the pumpkin juice to trigger him (its a reminder of what they lost, and the capriciousness of the colonizers continued forced dispossession of indigenous people and for it all be reduced to something as trivially states pumpkin juice) Gan Fall came in supper hostile and arrogant. I don't see how he was trying to empathize with their struggle as he never said anything akin to " I understand the damage of kicking a peoples off their land and I am sorry" but he didn't say that. Maybe you were thinking of the word connect, Gan was trying to connect with Wyper. but even then it doesn't make senes. intrested to hear what you got out of that scene.
