Nesse vídeo Bergonzi já tinha mais de 70 anos. Para cantar tão bem e tão belamente nessa idade só mesmo possuindo uma refinadíssima técnica vocal. Voz sedutora e única, que não se parece com nenhuma outra. Grande Bergonzi!

Penso che molti dei commenti negativi mossi a Bergonzi in questa pagina non tengano conto dell'aria che ha eseguito. "Una furtiva lagrima" è una delle più difficili romanze per tenore, con tutti gli attacchi sul passaggio (fa-fa diesis), suoni quasi sempre a mezzavoce e fiati lunghi. Io credo che sia da ammirare il grande coraggio del Maestro Bergonzi e tanto di cappello per come l'ha risolta.Poi certo, non l'opera centrale del suo repertorio.. basta sentirlo in "L. Miller" anche in anni '90

Bergonzi is perhaps the greatest master of Bel Canto. Listening to him is pure joy, such consistency in delivery is magnificent. His technique can only be rivaled by that of Gigli and Ivan Kozlovsky.

@Boston None of them were bel canto singers, never mind masters, but Kozlovsky was more close in style to the genuine period, on a good day when he behaved ::smile:: The other two were verismo singers who happened to sing bel canto operas now and then, rather seldom.

Bergonzi was able to alternate Elisir and Aida. It's unbelievable that at 66 he sings this way. The greatest.

Nope, he didn't use to alternate Elisir and Aida. For starters, he didn't sing much of each, particularly of Elisir.

@@michalinemanno699 I suspect after a certain point it’s fear that Bergonzi will flat above the staff. In my opinion, for an artist of his stature and given what he could teach young singers, I’m willing to take however high he was able to get on a given note, which varied from night to night after around 1975.

Bergonzi is my favorite tenor. However, if the tempo is too slow, the extremely difficult diminuendo at the end, for which Bergonzi is the absolute world star, is not perfect as in other recordings.

Amazing breath control. Its belle canto alright. Not sure about singers holding notes until they are nearly dead. Great singers like Carol Bergonzi do not have to do this. I would advise singers not to do this. It is beautiful singing and beautiful playing from the orchestra. The harp is such a fantastic instrument and works so well with orchestra.

Io c'ero. Serata splendida ma per Carlo non era cominciata benissimo....aveva inspiegabilmente scelto L'Africana come primo pezzo, con più ombre che luci: un po' per la voce fredda e un po' perché il si bemolle non era più tra le note agevoli (66 anni!!). Per fortuna si era ampiamente rifatto con questa bellissima aria e con il bis del Mefistofele cantati molto bene.

He doesn't sound too good here. He's 66 but Domingo is still singing (as a baritone!) at 69 and Pavarotti sang well into his early seventies. OTH Vilazon may be finished before he reachs 40, like Lanza.

L'ampiezza di fraseggio qui è inaudita. Ogni altra esecuzione di questo brano impallidisce a confronto. Forse in assoluto la registrazione più riuscita del grande tenore.

Non discuto sulla sua voce, perché ormai è vecchio. Non pretendo certo un vibrato perfetto, oppure un equilibrio tra i registri alla sua età (ma comunque non è mai stato perfetto). La sua interpretazione, però è assolutamente volgare ed indecente...proprio inascoltabile.... Attaccatemi, prego!

This isn't anything to be proud of. Not even his younger rendition was bel canto, but this is forced, wobbly, constricted, and completely lacks vocal nobility and bel canto graces. He is old, that's true, but why did he choose to sing this aria if he couldn't? Why not some pedestrian and undemanding verismo? Or why did he sing at all?
