What I find most impressive in this video is his ability to get the angle... he's no burner, but he seems to know where the best point of attack is and the best route to it instinctively. Watch any of the outside runs... he picks an angle early on and despite not being particularly fast, he still beats the defense to the point of attack because he just knows out how outflank them.

George Ortiz Am I the only one to point out that highlights are from real college games? I personally think Carlos Hyde will be a great backup and maybe future starter when Frank Gore retires.
@msherwood6910 жыл бұрын
very true. he doesn't have a lot of "moves" to get past defenders, but he has great cuts and patience better than most nfl backs. he takes the best angles, waits for his blocks, doesn't go down easy, and doesn't fumble. he's the perfect example of a solid, reliable back who won't blow you away with anything but will kill you slowly with efficiency and reliability.

Great pickup for the Niners. STACKED in the RB department for years. Lattimore & Hyde!
@rortiz130110 жыл бұрын
Agreed. I strongly believe Gore will either retire at the end of the year or brought back for cheap just for a farewell season and be a backup (in 2015). Also, as much as i love Kendall Hunter and see him as a perennial 1,000 yard back if he were starter, I can see him leaving as a FA after 2014 as well since we have so many players who's contracts are up soon. In addition, it appears LMJ just isn't happy in his role (and i can kinda get that) plus we don't appear to be fully invested nor sold on him at this point so i can see him traded almost certainly. That will make what u said TRUTH. #NinersNation Lattimore and Hyde will be DOMINANT imo. Time will tell.
@ArrghhMatey10 жыл бұрын
hopefully he will work out well. I never put much stock in draftees, talent in college doesn't always translate to the NFL, so we shall see. Excited for the coming season nevertheless
@49ersclips10 жыл бұрын
R Ortiz I don't have a crystal ball or anything but if i had to guess i think kendall hunter will be sticking around. He's the perfect change of pace back. He's the small speedy back that is so different then hyde or lattimore so he will still get his reps. Gore is slowing down and I agree this could be his last year but I dont think he'll retire. As strange as it would be he may be in a different jersey after next year. As far as james. He is definately going to another team. If we dont trade him, he will be gone as a free agent. My prediction is with the eagles his college coach will want him i'm sure.
@Ares1410 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I see Frank being our main starter for 1 more season. gotta love the dude but age is catching up to him. averaged only 4.1 yards per carry last season which is his career low. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if he might be in a platoon type role by the mid part of next season... nvertheless, Frank Gore may be one of my favorite niners of all time. He was the only excitement we had for years before we were good. played hard no matter what.

This guy runs like Arian Foster. Some have mentioned Frank Gore...he's not close to the running style of Frank Gore. Look up Gore's highlight tape from Miami and you will see someone with breakaway speed and more shiftiness. Hyde is a one cut runner. North, south type of runner, just like Arian Foster

I'm aware of that. I meant that the way he run's doesn't look like Frank the Tank. Look up Gore's college highlights and compare them to Hyde's. Before the knee injuries Gore was explosive. Even now Gore is quicker than Hyde and he can move laterally better than he can.

I wanted to look at the contact and the movement after contact. Sure there were some contact plays, a lot more plays that looked good because of the blocking, some on cuts and speed. He definitely looks like a Gore in the latter years, but I want to see if he loves football enough to move the pile forward after hits, and that's no easy task in the NFL.
@Sumoto99910 жыл бұрын
49ers beast mode. Him + Lattimore will be the best one two punch in the league. Maybe ever. Two #1 running backs in the backfield. Best running game period.

I see him being a goal line back to punch it in short yardage....depending on how well he competes w/Lattimore & Hunter for that #2 spot behind Franky...cos Franky needs to stay fresh & all these young guys behind him are all capable especially Hyde who @6.1 yds per carry can carry the load.

He looks like a perfect fit for the 49ERS. Work-horse power back, no top end speed, but dissects defenses laterally. West coast offense has a new weapon who will patiently grind out the defense and wait for that one big gain. He'll be a great replacement for Gore, who has been the heart and engine of these 49ERS for so many years; who now, have just woken up from a decade of slumber.

Did you miss the 38 yard TD run at the 2:05 mark or the 50 yard TD at the 3:35 mark or the 55 yard TD at 3:55 mark. Did you watch the whole clip? Hyde looks pretty good to me. Yes he doesnt have elite speed.....but neither did Frank Gore. I can't even count the number of times Frank has been caught from behind in the open field. Hyde is a bigger version of Gore. Great balance, good vision, shifty for his size and a physical runner!
@adembroski10 жыл бұрын
Yanno who else is a great runningback but lacks speed? Frank Gore. That's not the type of back the 49ers are looking for. Hyde's a perfect fit. The punishment delivered and clock eaten are more valuable to the 49ers offensive philosophy than busting off 80 yard runs. They'd rather have 40 minutes of possession and win 7-0.
