Carlos Mendoza reacts to loss of Kodai Senga, arrival of new Mets acquisition Ryne Stanek | SNY

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza delivered the bad news that ace Kodai Senga is likely done for the regular season with a "high grade" calf strain suffered in Friday night's win over the Braves. As a result, Mendoza says the Mets will revert back to a five-man rotation with Senga now sidelined. As for new bullpen acquisition Ryne Stanek, Mendoza likes his postseason experience and he is available immediately.

It’s more precautionary that they say regular season because we only have about 2 months left of the regular season but a high grade calf strain can linger. Typically it would take a month to a month and a half for something like that and then you have the ramp up time. But he should be good to go come playoff time when we’ll need him most.

Tough break for Senga and hope he gets healthy soon but we were doing it without him although he showed us what he brings when he's healthy but we got to move on and let's stop some of the shameful comments it's sports and injuries happen just look at the Knicks this past season Let's Go Mets!

I thought the same thing. I looked up calf strain and a moderate calf strain takes 3-6 weeks. It sounds like a strain is a tear, from what I read. Strain downplays the severity for sure.

Done for the regular season? Holy crap. You haven’t seen him around because he’s so upset. Lousy game today also. Martinez and Vientos 7 RBI’s yesterday and 0-7 with 7 K’s! Hopeful Stanek works out because Buto has tremendously and perhaps they can both be long relievers if and when a starter goes short.

I know about calf strains, a high grade is the most serious internally so it has to heal and only then can he start any type of conditioning. The calf muscle is really a slow healing muscle but perhaps with world class facilities his timeline may be a bit shorter.

I don't know how much Mendoza has to do with last 2 months success, but I think they will go at least to round 2. And Mendoza deserves much credit. With trades, I think they will continue their winning ways. Sad that Senga is gone after his first start back. Best to him. LGM's.

Carlos Mendoza has been amazing...Converting Butto...green-lighting the Maton addition...platooning Alvarez and Torrens & wisely trusting a 22 yr old Alvarez to manage the pitching staff...sticking with McNeil...and the CLINCHER - going against the groans and horror feeling of METS fans by bringing Diekman in the 9th in the Bronx and getting that painted corner K on Judge - NERVES of STEEL on that move for sure...!! True Manager of the Year candidate
