99.9999999% of the people watching the world snooker championship will be watching on TV and that would change to 99.9999999% if it was in a venue with 10x as many seats. Regardless of where it's held, the vast majority of the revenue will come from TV deals, not ticket sales. In snooker broadcasting, the TV screen is largely filled with the table and next to no fans (except occasionally the front 2-3 rows visible behind the player and an occasional wide shot between frames). So there's no point having a bigger audience from the TV viewers perspective. The existing crowd size already imparts more than enough atmosphere - making the venue bigger will make it more impersonal and potentially harder to control atmospheric conditions, and the people in the back row of the Crucible already view the table as a small green thing in the distance. Improved facilities have been called for by some players but not the arena itself. So there is an awful lot to lose on one side of the equation including the history and intimacy of the existing venue and on the other side as far as I can see is just a chance for an already rich man (Barry Hearn) to make marginally more money - he's a wheeler dealer and in all likelihood has some scheme in place to have greater control over a new soulless venue of his choice. It ain't broke at the crucible - there's nothing to fix.
@scambodia147Ай бұрын
Agree totally,the Wuhan tournament last week was practically empty,and the final featured two Chinese one of them actually from Wuhan.Keep it at Sheffield live spectator size as mentioned is irrelevant but with the crucible being small adds to the atmosphere,Ok, listen to the players and improve conditions there where possible,but DON’T succumb to Chinese or Saudi big money. Barry Hearn is the Don King of snooker!
