Mathematically, in order to keep stunning commentators you need exponential growth. This is because people become "jaded" from extraordinary performances unless you constantly outdo your previous performance. Keywords are 'satisfaction curves' or 'indifference curves' and 'law of diminishing returns'. It holds from everything from eating an extra ice cream cone to extra happiness. In fact I once saw a research paper that said to get the same "wow" as you did initially, you have to increase the performance (or the reward) by 4x over the previous effort. Do the math: it's like doubling the grains of rice on a chessboard for each square; by the time you have reached the 64th square you have more rice than is grown on the planet. Thanks for reading this far, Google scholar!

4x? This necessary exponentional growth is what makes life for drug addicts hell. BuT there is a tiny way to counter this trend a bit. Bhuddists call it keeping the beginner spirit

Here in Norway we say squeezing water from a stone, which is considerably easier than squeezing blood from it, but Magnus simply excels at it, he keeps asking questions until they crack un der the pressure. Thanks James.

Vidit should be so proud: Magnus didn’t use „the plow“ against him, nor any other weird opening! Instead, he played classical structures! Can there be a higher compliment?

The problem with the definition "brilliancy" is that it's just a great sacrifice. In this situation it wasn't really brilliant, just the best obvious move. Often the best possible move in a position can be way more impressive than brilliancies

It's obvious what happened here. They were both playing incredibly well, but Vidit made one simple mistake: He didn't match Magnus' outfit. That outfit is fire, yo. That's worth at least +50 ELO right there.

...Ng5 is not a hard move to see though, even in a time scramble. You either deflect the Nh3 and Queen with check, or take the N, and again Queen with check, or if Ng1 Kxg1 d6 Kf1 d7 and Queen with check. Heck I would have played it, and I'm a middleing club player. But of course, being so active and aggressive with all his pieces just to get there is amazing, though, b/c it looked as if White had Black's g-pawn locked up nicely.
@MrMakhitta

in time scramble Vivid goes wrong and Magnus doesn’t! That is the thing with Magnus he just rarely to never goes wrong in positions like this! You have to look for the opportunity with one eye, and the ticking clock with the other. To sense when a move is there and react on it instantly.. And not to forget when to sense a positional advantage is there to go for! Magnus guards his pawn with the King moving away from his other pawn on the opposite rim. If Vivids past central pawn and knight gets traded off with Magnus past pawn and knight his king might just snap off magnus’ rim pawn, and Vivid would be able to guide his own rim pawn to promotion. Will it hold up that Magnus goes all in on his past pawn or not? So many decisions to made without time to calculate! Computer says dead draw almost till the very end, and still like we seen so many times before Magnus picks the longer straw! It isn’t luck, it is a God born intuition backed up with years of experience in making the right decisions in positions like this!

Constructive criticism: you dont need to keep up the energetic fascade all the time. If takes away from the brilliant moment at the end and leaves you breatheless by the middle of the video. Its okay to leave some mystery in tonality and expression in the beginning and build the suspense with timing and excitement as the video progresses.
