As the trial against Carly Gregg comes to a close on Friday afternoon, a jury concluded that Gregg is guilty for the murder of her mother, and decided she should be sentenced to life behind bars after a short deliberation. Gregg nodded to the judge as he delivered the sentencing, and remained emotionless.

Fifteen-year-old Carly Gregg is accused of brutally murdering her mother and attempting to murder her stepfather in March of 2024. Gregg allegedly shot her mother in the face numerous times inside their Mississippi home before she's accused of calling her friend over to show her the gruesome scene. If convicted, Gregg faces life behind bars.

They will appeal the verdict, the sentencing with be changed to Life with parole after 25 years. SCOTUS already settled you can't send a child to life without parole. She will be re-sentenced on appeal.

nothing really to overturn, as for the sentence, they've already made it to where anyone under 18 gets a sentence review after 25 years, so she will get that anyway regardless of them NOT giving her life with a chance of parole.

@teresatafoya9211 She realized that she had killed her mom but not before she did it. After sentencing, she realized the consequences of killing her mom. So many kids are given powerful mind altering psych meds at a young age that numb all of their senses. I am not sure if this was the case, but she was being medicated, and the meds had been recently switched to different drugs.

I can't believe you ruined your own life at 14. You're only 14 Carly. I wanted to cry when they said life. I'm not making excuses by any means. That is just my reaction to a child being sentenced to life. I do agree she should be punished and thought it wouldn't surprise me if she was sentenced to life but apparently I was wrong

She thought it was OK to kill her mother - and then unsuccessfully try and kill her stepdad. Did she think the consequences would be time in a juvenile centre with the other 'cool kids' with lots of notoriety, kind counselors and even supervised 'day outs'? No - it's the rest of her life behind bars.

To think she was offered a plea. Her defense and family no favors with this insanity plea. People in the USA are probably tired of watching school shooters, and family an iĺators these past years. Their judgement was sound. Parents lock your weapons no matter if it's a child or adult in your home. Imo Carly had a personality disorder, one that families and courts dread.

In Canada the maximum she could get would be 5 years, 3 of which would have to be served in community programs. It's barbaric to lock up children for life.

No they didn't but they do require the Miller criteria to be met in order to give it. Ethan Crumbley had a Miller hearing to evaluate those factors since he pleaded guilty and the video is available if you want to see how it works in detail.
