Carmel Marina Corporation

Located at 11240 Commercial Parkway in Castroville, California is Carmel Marina Corporation. This yard houses roughly 80 trucks and has serviced Monterey County for over 40 years.
The video starts out with several drivers demonstrating their trucks for me. First, we have Sergio in a 265014 (0:07). Watch as he demonstrates how his Curotto Can works. Fun fact, Sergio is one of the fastest drivers in the yard - and as a matter of fact, he was the first one done with his route the day before the tour. Next up, we have Chris in 104354 (1:56). Watch as he demonstrates how his McNeilus ZR works. Following behind is Ceaser in 632772 (3:14). Watch as he demonstrates the features on his Amrep Stinger. Last is Anthony in 506424 (3:56). Watch as he explains and demonstrates the features on his Wittke Express (a unique 60/40 split). A big thanks to all these friendly employees for the demonstrations.
Throughout the rest of the video, you will see a pretty decent variety of garbage trucks that this yard has. With so many different models, it’s easy for non-Southern California fans to enjoy, as they have some trucks they can relate to from their regions. A list of what this yard has to offer:

Being a former USA Waste Services facility, this yard had many goodies that the company used to run, and at one point, Amreps dominated this yard (let me know if you would like to see some pictures of the old fleet and I can post some shots to Flickr). These days, brand new McNeilus equipment has slowly trickled in over the past couple of years. By 2016, this yard will be completely CNG. Because they lost the seven peninsula cities, some 30 drivers will transfer to the new company when the contracts start and that will most likely cause the rest of the Diesel rigs to be scrapped or transferred to other yards.
I want to give a huge, huge thank you to the Carmel Marina Corporation staff. Some employees I would like to thank are district manager Felipe Melchor and route supervisor Les McGaster (45 years at Waste Management, and was one of the founders of WM Port-O-Let service), as well as all the drivers I met during the tour: Sergio, Chris, Anthony, Ceaser, Danny Molina (whom I met on my previous trip to Monterey County and is a 42 year veteran at Waste Management), Six-O, Patricia, Armando & Eddie (both with 25+ years to the city of Carmel alone; both drive the WX/McNeilus RLs seen here and before that, they drove identical Volvo WX/McNeilus RLs that many of you have seen in BNSFBJ’s videos), Jose (20 years at WM, and is one of the 30 moving to the new company unfortunately), and several others who helped make this tour very, very memorable.

Wow Aaron! You've outdone yourself. Great tour, as always enjoyed all of it. The single axle Wittke Express was pretty cool, definitely wasn't expecting the full size one to be a split truck as it pulled up. A nice surprise. 9:35 was a nice side by side comparison of the Contender and Ultra front loaders. But without a doubt the favorites are the Amrep/WXLL MSLs. The last of a dying breed it seems.

georgewuzheer Thank you George! It certainly was worth the trip! This was my first time seeing a Wittke Express up close. A lot of first timers for me when I toured this yard. The Amreps were awesome .I'm so glad I got to see those. They had at least three when I toured.

Wow! What an amazing yard! Really cool trucks, I hope you'll be able to get some videos of the Wittke and McNeilus MSLs, the new CNG ones look really nice! That Wittke Crocodile with the McNeilus grippers was pretty cool! I'd like to see some video if the CCC Wittkes, if there are any left. The Volvo Amrep MSL is a must for video! 6:02 Truck from the old WM San Jose operation. Waste Management collected commercial from the 1980s until 2007, and residential from 1998 to 2002 (by way of acquiring Western Waste) using Amreps and ADR MSLs.

Haha yup, that's one of the few old San Jose trucks that CMC has/had. Think Oakland still has a few old San Jose Wittkes as well.

Great pictures! Tbh, this looks like any other typical WM yard with low diversity amongst their lines of Natural Gas Autocars with a few Peterbilts thrown in.... but.... I loved that CCC and Volvos along with that funny little Heil Retriever! Very surprised they had Volvos here, and it would be even better if they had some white GMC's! All trucks I would want to film from this yard. That Condor Autoreach and NcNeilus RL were quite cool too. Again, it would be really cool to film one of those CCCs. Please note that at 14:35, the Volvo WXLL (already my favorite refuse truck chassis) mounted with that Amrep MSL is probably one of my new most favorite trucks of all time. Did you get any route in for that truck?

SoCalGarbageTrucks Thank you! I agree with you on the natural gas trucks. But it made all the older trucks even more unique in my opinion. I wish I could have filmed one of those CCCs. Unfortunately, their route schedules were really weird, so I had no luck finding one. And I'm pretty sure they will be getting the boot within the next couple of months :( Volvo WXLL Amrep was easily my favorite in the yard! I did get route info. He works in Carmel/Carmel Valley. That contract ends June 30, 2015. So you still have three months to see it ;-)

sad that they're losing residential, since they do have some awesome trucks, but I'm really happy it's Green Waste and not Recology. Apparently I've made some of the SJ green waste guys famous throughout the company lol. I didn't know that split MSLs were numbered as 5XXXXs so that's pretty cool, since split ASLs are still 1XXXXs (right?) Awesome video, probably my favorite yard tour video of yours so far!

But their transition has been sketchy lol Cool to hear you made some drivers famous haha maybe you'll make some Monterey Bay drivers famous too. Yea, their split trucks (both FL and MSL) are 5_ _ _ _ _. As far as I know, all ASLs are 10_ _ _ _, so you're right about the split ASLs. Glad to hear you enjoyed - thanks for the praise!

Great work once again! Really happy to see those amrep MSLs and autoreaches. Their cng trucks are almost the same as the ones up here. That zr sounded just like the ones I've filmed, same with the curotto can at the beginning. Cool to see the American flag on that RL. Did you film anything on route while you were up there? Pretty much the same trucks except for the tag axle haha I did not get to film anything unfortunately. There were other reasons as to why, but mainly I just wanted to spend some time with my family. Awesome! I like the Condor RLs and the McNeilus ZRs! Awesome to see those drivers demoing the trucks for you. I liked the MSL demo best! Those CCC are quite unique, that's probably my favorite in this fleet. The truck at 10:23 looked awesome! oh wow that truck at 12:42 looked very, very cool! is that the only truck in the yard like that? The body looks awesome and the cab looks so cool with pictures of food all over it! Excellent video!

thelyokofannumber1 Thank you! It was very nice of them to demo their trucks! The Wittke Express was very cool. Especially since it was split. CCCs have been around for a while actually! They were repainted after another division closed. The driver of the truck at 10:23 was awesome too! As for the Food Waste truck, that is their only one...it will be taken off of organics within the coming months, so the stickers will be gone too :(

By far your best yard tour video yet. The pictures were great since you were on elevated ground, the skyline, sunset, perfect. Also love the variety in this yard, maybe because of so many old trucks and new trucks too. That first truck sounded like an Athens truck. Glad that ZR flipped lids. Did Tony film that ZR before? Just love those CCCs. Wish City of LB bought trucks like that. Lol I like the Food Waste truck, would look awesome with my MR. Gmoney 6422 PASCO is Palo Alto Sanitation Company. When they closed in 2009, some of their CCCs were sent to Carmel Marina Corp. They use those carts for backyard service in Carmel.

Those Amrep MSL's have to be my favorite trucks from their fleet! Would be cool if someone would get video of one of those in action! Those CCC Wittke's are so nice! Pretty rare to see CCC trucks from WM, do they do commercial or residential? They have a lot of Freightliner's which is nice. I love that Freightliner Autoreach. That truck at 12:43 is awesome love how they put food on it lol. Food waste truck huh? Were those Otto's at 13:44? Very cool that the drivers demoed their trucks for you, that was nice of them. Kev Barajas Thank you! The Amrep MSLs were my favorites. The CCCs do residential. Food waste yes, the designer of the graphics on the food waste truck actually has some pics of it on Flickr. I have no idea on 13:44. I thought they were but they looked like Cascades too. This is actually a Northern California yard, so you should be more surprised to see Amreps in their fleet in the first place! Next up I'm hoping to check out Compton or Chino since they recently changed up the whole site.
