UPDATE TO ALL: I have completely revised this arrangement, and is much more complicated and it is a lot more fun to play (in my opinion). I wrote this version in this video around 8th grade-freshman year of high school, so it wasn’t the best, I am now getting ready to go off to college. I actually played the new version for some of my college auditions. I will post the new version soon.

I was a freshman here haha. My technique is much better now, mallets was always a weak point for me at the time this video was made.

Interesting choice to notate the trills as two note tremolos

This is an older version of my arrangement. I’ve changed a lot since and the tremolos are now trills, haha.

nah this reminds me of when i skipped region band cause i was very sick and they were playing carmen suite and they were down 1 percussionist because i was too too sick to go (its traumatic and scary still to me even though i was sick)

Love the preparation and musicality but try to play with more full strokes and not down strokes.

As someone who personally likes piston stroke and uses it much more than I probably should, there's a time and place for it. Yes it's generally the most efficient but visually a downstroke in the right spot is much more appealing. There's a reason in drum lines they don't keep tacet sticks up. This person's getting a great sound out of the instrument and the downstroking in the way they are doing it in my opinion looks cleaner

@@henwill8 There is a time and place for down strokes, but playing mallets is not typically going to be the time for it. Playing on a drumline and playing a mallet instrument are two completely different playing surfaces. You have to "pull" the sound out of a marimba bar to get a good resonance which is why the piston stroke is going to almost always be preferred. He's also using vibes mallets on a marimba which is an interesting choice... he's hammering the keyboard and the sound isn't resonating the way it could had he not.
