What the F is up with the 22 thumbs down?!!! This guy is a living legend and was an inspiration for John Bonham! If his improvises, who cares! And, anybody who doesn't have some appreciation for Carmine Appice clearly does not know much about drumming or rock history.

He's all over the place because he just can't stop showing off. He's a brilliant drummer but this-at his level- lets him down. So before the venom comes my way I acknowledge his talent but think he's had much better days at the office. Peace.@@Strimbles

Robert Glen...Man, that wasn't a lesson in drumming "Carmine Style". That was a lesson in humility. It's too bad, and a sad situation, when a master mucisian/drummer of his stature, can't even get off his cellphone and share some knowledge and love, with his devoted fan, such as yourself. A paid for, dyed in the true-blue, comrade, at that. It's life in the F-U fast lane; which has become too common of a theme these days obviously you were offended and for good reason. It's not about the $150.00. He oughta be ashamed! Best that you didn't allow the incident to tarnish you. Forever keep your music and love alive. Thx for sharing

John Paul Jones, arguably the most underrated musician of all time was instrumental (excuse the pun) in creating the riff and therefore it’s original time signature. It isn’t a standard 4/4 “beat” although it *sounds* like it... This version is an orgy of egos and it shows how brilliant LZ were.

Vanilla Fudge took Zeppelin on their debut American tour when that shark incident occurred. Bonham was took a little of the bass drum heavy approach from Appice... something that he did that he didn't know he influenced Bonham. Vanilla Fudge was big in their time briefly...only good or internet radio will play them because really they were am acquired taste but there influence is felt thru other musicians. The band were like " What the fuck is he doing?" at the beginning with that shitter of a solo. Then he goes on to decimate the whole song, and the band has to constantly time shift. The problem with Carmine is, he listens to himself and is so consumed with how HE comes across that he forgets about the band. As far as he is concerned the band can take a hyke. He didn't serve the song by dropping into the pocket and groove that is Black Dog. He was more about the one lick he kept doing and looking around seeing the reactions people had as he did it. Bonham would make eye contact because of a mutual feel moment. And yes, Carmine rushed it hard. I can see where as drummers get older and maybe insecure because they're question of relevance they may over do it but whatever. He's done his thing. pretty honarable just to be asked to do such an event. I saw him at a clinic at music land in Bel Air MD in like mid-late 80's, it was cool, but I was turned off when he ragged on Vinnie his brother who I feel has a much more original identifiable style. Fuck it, so many drummers are dicks and have little good to say about other drummers. I think one is born to be a true natural feel player that can move or make another person move to a beat or feel.

After Bonzo died and the rumors swirled about that Carmine Appice might take his spot, the standard surface explanation for his not being given the chair was never a knock on Carmine but that the rest of the band were too great of friends with Bonzo to ever replace him. No doubt that is true, but I'd always also thought that Appice's PERSONALITY would not have fit in with the group. Now, watching this, I wonder if the lads also realized that Appice's (lack of ) MUSICALITY would not have fit, either.

Ok ,this whole comment section is filled with absolute deaf people !!! Not one person realizes how shitty that band is or what? The speedy bassist was of on a solo,hey look at me ,i'm the plunky bassist ,playing the wrong bass for a zeppelin song.The singer had a rough larynx or what ever and the guitar player was ,fast ,slow,fast ,medium ,slow,fast ,ugh.Carmine comes out and boom,boom,flip ,flip, crash ,flam ,flam .Then the band goes way off on his count .today's generation are just dumber than ever ,god forgive them for they know not what they do ,their phones tell them every thing to do ,the devils cellular leash .Enjoy your 5G DNA manipulator.Sad ,real sad .

Where do people think John got a lot of his influence from? Gene Krupa, Ringo, Keith Moon AND Carmine! John began doing those triplets on the kick drum after hearing Carmine do it once on a live Vanilla Fudge album. Carmine doesn't take credit for that at all. He also got John his first Ludwig kit personally, which was the exact same model and color that Carmine was playing including 2 kick drums. Jimmy Page later made Bonham get rid of one of the kicks, because he said there was so much drumming going on, he couldn't concentrate, lol. Carmine is a legend. Give him some respect.

Carmine is one of the worlds great rock drummers...a true legend. Yes he's a little off on this performance but it's not his kit...maybe he's rusty, ect. ect. Carmine was a GOD in his heyday.

This shows how good Bonzo was and how he made it seem easy. Carmine apparently is having a hell of a hard time with this song.
@allrequiredfields
@allrequiredfields Жыл бұрын
he's struggling because he doesn't understand the simplicity of that groove is what makes the beat so special. The guitar is all over the place, and Bonham would usually just followed Page, but moments like this tune and Kashmir were brilliant because the drumming counterpoints with those complicated guitar parts or parts that were in another time signature, on top of having huge, resonant drum sounds REALLY make them stand out in an otherworldly way.

Robert Plant always sang the vocals lower in this song Live. I don’t get why this dude had to hit those high notes of the recording. The guy was obviously killing himself trying to do it, noticeably ruining his vocals as the song went on

What l see is a drummer completely full of himself... Yes Carmine is one of the greats but still has not learned the word humble. l watch gentleman like lan Paice, Carl Palmer etc who want to give back to the profession that has gave them so much. When l watch Carmine in this video, my personal opinion he was so busy showing off he totally lost the feel Bonham had in this song. To me the thing that made Bonham so unique was not what not only what he did do but what he didn`t do...

Nah man, I learned that song in my second year playing drums, and I'm by no means a prodigy. What's hard to capture is Bonham's feel, but the actual notes being played aren't that difficult. Any intermediate rock drummer that practiced the song beforehand could have done much better than Carmine did here.
