Hi, I took a couple of cuttings from a bunch that my Wife bought last year & intend to use those to increase my stock this year. Plants for free, can't beat it. Thanks for sharing.👍👍👍

I have the same seed pack and was thinking of sowing them.. One question crossed my mind. The seedlings often end up looking thin n leggy when grown from seed unlike the nice tough bushy plants from the nursery... Can I pinch the seedlings to make them look like those nursery bought plants? Or r they just hybrids
@briansgardenandpolytunnel81724 жыл бұрын
pinching out the tips always helps. more side shoots means a bushier plant with more flowers. any flowers i grow from seed have their centres nipped out at least 2 weeks before i plant them out.....................brian

It's because those plants were grown from cuttings and also they are hybrids so they have vigor compared to seed grown. Most hybrids end up being sterile because of this, but with time and patience this plant will beef up. It is a perennial after all.

Can u please show how to get plants from carnation bouquets? They aren't as leafy.
@briansgardenandpolytunnel81726 жыл бұрын
as long as the plants are fresh. it can be done. you need cutting about 4 inches long. the top cut above a leaf joint and the base BELOW a leaf joint.......................brian

the biggest problem is that you cant really take cuttings from flowering stems. if you know someone who grows carnations you have a better chance of success..............brian

would have been far better if most of the instruction bit was actually on camera! That is of course once you get past the negativity. Let's watch the top of the bench when the trimming (4:51) occurs below camera level.
