CORRECTIONS: 13:43 - Cubes can always be spent as $1 each, and I forgot about that at the moment. Not sure if I would have spent the cube, but it was certainly an option I didn't consider. 1:11:28 - Matt forgot to pay 1 cube for this placement.

Hey, Jon! Usually I'm a lurker, I don't comment on videos, but I REALLY need to say this: this is THE BEST multiplayer playthrough video I've ever seen! Everything is perfect. The way you and Matt described your lines of thought for each turn is AMAZING, the positive attitude just adds to that. Also, the way you zoomed each "location" is a MUST for this kind of video and you did it perfectly, it really shows that you care that the people watching the video really get to enjoy the game as if they are there with you. The dogs barking are NOT a problem, it just adds to the feeling that people are there with you, watching the whole thing. I know sometimes we can get down, but you really are doing THE BEST playthrough videos. Thank you so much! (unfortunately I'm unemployed right now, so I don't have the disposable income for a patreon, but as soon as I can I''ll surely support you!)

I really appreciate your commenting, it made my morning :) I've put off making this kind of playthru for years because I didn't think I'd be able to do it justice. At this point I think I've cracked it, at least for what works for me and the channel. I'm glad to hear you enjoyed this so much, I am hoping to lean into this new style a bit more as time goes on. Honestly, it's far more interesting and fun to make these vs my standard tutorials.

Jon, I love this format. To be honest, I’ve watched fewer videos on the channel over the last year or so because of the lack of full-game playthroughs. I understand how much more time those take for you, but for me, your channel was the best because you took the time to actually zoom in and let us see the boards/cards (something I don’t think any other channel does) and because you did full playthroughs that let us see different strategies and how those might work out. Really glad to see this full playthrough, and hope this format could become a staple of the channel.

Thanks Aaron, I really appreciate the feedback. I'm happy to say that this Carnegie video took aproximately the same amount of time to make as one of my current non-full playthrough tutorial videos. That's because the filming time is drastically shorter (only 2ish hours vs usually more like 5-6 hours) since I'm just playing instead of orchestrating and APing like crazy since it's just me in here :P I'm really hoping to do more of these, and bring in a couple other friends to play as well (perhaps even some 3p games at some point, if the logistics work out, but likely won't see any of those for at least a month).

That's awesome to hear. I was worried we may have leaned too hard into mulling over our options, but it's good to hear you enjoyed that part. I did try to shorten a couple of our turns were we really spun our wheels though :) I just finished editing Akropolis, so that'll be hitting your inbox hopefully quite soon!

As Matt mentioned, we have been good friends for a very long time. We have likely played hundreds of games together and I like to think our friendship comes across in the video. It's certainly a great first outing for him being on the channel I think , and we already have plans for him to come back and film a couple more of these soon.

These are fantastic Jon! I always loved your full playthroughs, so this is a great way to get that and with two different perspectives on the game. Matt is great. A perfect addition to your playthroughs. Keep these coming and I am more than happy to keep supporting! OK. I'll keep supporting without these, but I hope they keep coming! :)

Great playththrough! I really like the new format. Great mix of wide shots and close-ups so you can follow along. Like the light teach at the beginning with other rules layered in just in time. Also like how you both narrate your turns to share what you're thinking about.

I've been super reticent to try this "teach while playing" style in a real game with a real opponent, but I agree that it seemed to work pretty well in this one. The next video I filmed with Matt will have a full teach at the start, but it only took me around 7 minutes to do that teach so it felt worthwhile. Glad you enjoyed this!

I have been looking forward to full playthroughs! Edit: I feel like I have to elaborate just how much I enjoyed watching this now that I finished the game. I know these take an incredible amount of time to make, but they are so great to watch. The doggo didn't bother me at all, and I loved the decision making you and Matt were working through vocally, you both did amazing. Your camera switching was really well done too.

Hello Mat and Jon, nice to see this play for two. This was an excellent video, every single round was super exciting and tension was high till the very last round! Splendid video and the idea of inviting friends along is really appealing to me. Thanks a lot again Jon for the video. Ps. The dogs were not an issue at all. @@StevenStJohn-kj9eb After making 4 of these videos it seems like the total editing time takes about 2x the raw filming time and that's about in line with editing my traditional tutorial videos as well. It took significantly longer to edit the TTS playthrough videos for some boring/annoying reasons, but it's been super reasonable here. That did mean this Carnegie edit took 4 hours which is a decent chunk of time, but I also suspect I'll get that down as I get more comfortable with multi-cam editing (and figure out more time saving tricks).

Thank you for the playthrough. Putting out 18 blockers to play a 2 player game is a deal breaker. Don't know why publishers don't print on both sides of the board , to address different player counts. What a shame. Thanks again. ❤
@JonGetsGames
@JonGetsGames 10 ай бұрын
I will say that they likely didn't do this because adding them out with cards means the blockers will be in different positions each game which will have a significant impact on increasing the variability of play from one game to the next.

Good game guys. Mat is an awesome player. I foresee a crazy 4 player Friendly ties full playtru with Nick and Anastasia. (Yes, yes! DO IT :D :D :D ) The game is fun, tho quite brainburny. The audio was quite sharp and clear, but you might look into more warm yellow light installations. I am noticing lately that your videos look, kind of.... grey and dark. I don't know if it is because of too much strong blue (cold) light or not enough light in general but investigate and upgrade ^^
@JonGetsGames
@JonGetsGames 2 жыл бұрын
Glad you enjoyed this! THere's a possibility we try out 3p games at some point in the future though I strongly doubt 4p will happen, largely due to just not having space to squeeze everyone adn all those cameras in here. Regarding the lights, yeah I've been tweaking them over time to try and get a better look. I cranked the saturation up a decent amount in this video to try and get the colors to pop but I"m still not there. I have 4 LED panel lights that I use and all of them can shift more towards amber, so perhaps I should experiment with cranking their ambers up slightly.

That was very exciting, I feel like this Jon and Matt Show needs a theme song like Laverne and Shirley's theme song! Anyway, what a terrific play through, thank you for taking the time. I'm not sure I have Carnegie in my head right, I've only played once and that may be the problem but I don't fully grasp the point implications of making donations versus connecting cities versus construction, etc. It seems very murky to me all in all. But at a glance this playthrough seemed like a tortoise and the hare race where Jon took off grabbing points pretty much every turn. I really thought Jon had it. Anyway thank you again, that was wonderful! Great job both of you 👏👏👏!

Thank You for the amazing playthrough! If there is no content made by You on a certain game I find learning it much harder. And I love your Playing with Friends series. You know that instead of pushing towards linking with New Orleans You could have easily linked to San Francisco. It could bring You victory on this one. I was cheering You to that direction, but it did not help ;) I love that game and still managed to win over the bot only one time. Programming is not something I am good at.

I'll add my voice to those enjoying the full playthrough format. This has made me interested in trying Carnegie again. I played a few games a while back when it came out on BGA and didn't enjoy it. It felt chaotic and unwieldy. After watching, I think I just didn't understand the flow of things. How stuff moves about and benefits of doing different thing. It is really nice to watch a play to give context to the base rules.

Awesome playthrough, thanks chaps, really enjoyed it. Not sure if you have noticed this detail on the player boards, they are actually colour co-ordinated for the meeples. If you look in the bottom left corner where the starting resources are shown you can see clearly which colour meeps go with which board. Yellow player was using the grey players board and blue was using the yellow player boards. Not really an issue, just noticed it recently myself and thought I would mention it. Anyhoo, keep up the great content, thanks.

I saw you make a mistake in your teaching game, and now you did it again here! If I’m right, you’re probably doing it in all your games, and consequently you are throwing away tons of money for no reason. The situation: You are doing an HR action. You have a bunch of workers in your lobby. You have one active worker In the department to its immediate left. Let’s call it Dept 1. To its immediate left you have a brand new vacant department (dept 2). What you do: You move the guy in dept 1 to dept 2, and then you move a guy from the lobby to dept 1. Two moves; two activations. You see what’s wrong? Instead, leave the guy in dept 1 alone. Move a guy from the lobby to dept 2. Still 2 moves but only 1 activation. You like to use “conga line” movement, and it’s costing you dearly! If you want to see it first hand, go to minute 27.
@JonGetsGames
@JonGetsGames 2 жыл бұрын
Hmm, yeah I see what you are saying but at minute 27 it didn't actually matter since I was removing a "free to activate" worker. I like to think I don't do this with workers I pay to activate, I'll keep it in mind for future plays.
