Carnoustie railway station stands on the line from Dundee to Aberdeen and was opened in 1838 by the Dundee to Arbroath Railway in 5ft 6in gauge, converted to Standard Gauge in 1847. The Caledonian and North British Railways operated services until nationalisation. The station was upgraded when the Open Tournament was held here in 2007. Around 100,000 passenger journeys were recorded in 2023 and the Caledonian Sleeper calls here.
