I beg to differ. 1. First of all Mobius was made with the mindset of having a Kenyan car made for kenyan conditions with these core functions in mind: A. Functionality B. Durability C. Serviceability D. Longevity E. Reliability If you look at the way mobius is made its height and the shocks are configured to that of Kenyan roads. Its basically an all terrain car. When we import used cars those cars are made to the conditions of roads from where they originated from. mind you kenyans use their cars for all manner of things, for carrying goods and people and in some cases on rough roads when going to shaggs, these activities put alot of wear and tear on the car. In foreign countries their cars are made to carry fewer passengers mainly two or for a family of four and less heavy goods and considering they have better roads most tarmack roads even in the country side ( their shaggs) . 2. Is the car worth 3.9m. What you could have done is compare the cost of a used imported SUV to that of a new mobius. Assuming the costs are the same, i would definatley say the cost of a mobius is worth it. Why? First of all durability. If mobius is made for Kenyan roads conditions and usage , then that means it has a longer shelf life than that of an imported car for reasons i have explained above. secondly, when you buy a used car the life of the car is shorter because you are getting a used car which has already gone through its best years notably the first five years of a car, from then on , frequent breakage, parts change and servicing and maintainance is required. This is an extra cost to the end user.. These cars have an average 100,000 miles already logged in, while a new mobius car, you are buying a car with zero or almost zero mileage and you get to experience its best years moving forward. 3. parts and services. Now this is one of the most important aspects to consider when buying a car. Mobius is made with the idea that if it brakes down anywhere in the country, the parts are easily available from any shop or even jua kali mechanic in any part of Kenya. Now if i have a foreign used car and my car breaks down what is the guarantee that i will get the part the same day, or from any part of the country. How many dealerships can you find of foreign made cars sprawled around the country. I will have to go to the volkswagen dealership in nairobi just to get the part or the part may not be available and they have to import it meaning adding extra costs to my pocket and time wasted waiting for the part weeks or months. But for mobius all i have to do is go to the next jua kali shop in any town and either get the part or get the car fixed because the car was made with serviceability anywhere in the country in mind .In the long term the mobius becomes more economical in parts and services. Go for it Kenyans. Build Kenya. 4. Kenyan made (assembly). As long as the car is assembled in Kenya it has a kenyan aspect to it. It was put together using Kenyan manpower, kenyan hands assembled the car it is mdae in Kenya, unless the car was made in china and shipped into Kenya. We have had a history of assembling cars in Kenya be it isuzu, simba etc but they are considered kenyan made because they were assembled in Kenya. Boeing aircraft of America is actually considered an assembler of planes because they import most of their parts from overseas and they are then put together (assembled) at the boeing plant in seattle. But its considered American made. Therefore , As long as the car is assembled in Kenya, i consider that Kenyan made. Just like we import cotton from tanzania and uganda take it to the textile mills in Kenya to turn it into clothes. Do we then say the clothes are not Kenyan made because we got the raw materials from TZ and UG. 5. For us to feel its a car that's truly Kenyan, the most important aspect to me are the sourcing of parts or raw materials. Take 100% of the car. What percentage of the car is made using kenyan parts made in kenya. Like the tyres, shocks, windhshilelds, springs, steel, iron, aluminium, seats, leather basically the parts that go into making the car. if we can then start specific industries making all these parts and accessories then "made In Kenya" will take its true meaning. Mobius has its goal of sourcing at least 80% of the parts and raw materials sourced from Kenya . But currently we do not have those industries but a few like springs and shocks . so we should support them, after all making a car is very complex and capital intensive and it has its risks. It also requires the skills sets in mass to go into mass production but also one has to have the facilities to produce enmass which requires huge investment in capital. So kudos to joel for having come up with the idea and concept where no local kenyan or foreign investor would dare. But joel has shown the road map and as we continue on this path we gain experience, skills transfer, save on foreign exchange as we import less cars, create local jobs in manufacturing/assembling, the gains are much much more. After all look at the first car Henry ford built and look at where ford is today? So is the price worth it? Absolutely, you have to look at the greater or bigger picture. Is the car Kenyan Made? Absolutely it was assembled in Kenya using Kenyan labor. we have to start from somewhere. As long as the car meets the core criterias of : Functionality, Durability, Serviceability ,Longevity, Reliability and assembled in Kenya with a price point similar to an imported used car, all other aspects like where the company was incoporated, or a photo copy of a chinese car is irrelevant. Give me a mobius 3 any day than a used imported car. Infact i like mobius one the so called ugly car for reasons i have posted below. read my post.

My thoughts exactly. This review is very biased in a not very subtle way. No one buys a Bugatti because it's french or the owners are french or it was assembled in France. The name Bugatti isn't even french. People buy cars because of their needs. This review is light on the actual functionality of any Mobius car let alone Mobius 3. Alot of time n research went into the authenticity of its claim of Kenyan heritage nothing wrong in that but I doubt anyone would be put off by that fact alone. It's 2021 a french car might have an Italian name financial backing from canada assembled in Asia have it's engine made in Germany n the rest of the body in satafrika Brazil n India.

If you pardon I'll use an analogy. This review is like an author writing about the Mobius family. Mobius has three kids Mobius 1,2 n 3. He says very little about what the Mobius did for a living or how they got along with the rest of the community instead he tells us how they have dual citizenship. Mobius 1 was an ugly child that was trolled n mocked (mtu wa mayai made by juakali artisans) little is said about the second child. But when we get to the third child he mwagas all the 'tea' like the third child is suspected to be a basturd or adopted or gotten out of wedlock. Then the whole book concentrates about the parentage n DNA of this child. The child could have been a doctor brought electricity helped people but no it doesn't matter since he doesn't have their DNA. In conclusion the Mobius family are frauds because they've never come clean about the DNA of their third child or which country they truly call home or belong to.

"Other aspects like where the company was incoporated, or a photo copy of a chinese car is irrelevant." I want to believe this is your personal opinion on irrelevance, same thing the content creator said. Mind you if you are keen enough in listening he is looking at what Mobius has presented to the Kenyan market from a buyer's perspective, not a user. Your cotton example for the vehicle, it would be sourcing the metal, rubber, plastics, etc. then making the car. If they simply said assembled in/for Kenya would there be any queries on vehicles' origin?

My thoughts: Kenyan/Chinese/British.....does not really matter, what matters is whether the car is reliable, can tackle the terrain, affordable running costs , good handling, comfort and safety features. The price tag may be beyond what most Kenyans can afford to spend but it seems fairly priced for a brand new SUV. Looking forward to a drive test review.

I see some guys came out gun blazing, but this goes to speak a lot on the nature of our Kenyan corporate environment. Lot's of misinformation, under information, undercutting etc. They are used to, "Kenyans tutawapelekea anything na wabuy." (Chinese); The vehicle might be decent in itself, but the company should do the consumers due diligence. Tusibebane. Nice Information guys.

I don't know but getting a 2021 zero mileage car, with 214hp from a 2.0L non turbo engine is impressive compared to 2021 honda crv with 190hp turbo engines, nissan xtrail 142hp which is massively underpowered for a 2.0L engine and when we talk of the imports we have in kenya they are 2010 to 2016 models with high milages being sold at ksh. 2.5 mil n above.Plus the car is made for african Terrain.so yeah keep on buying massively underpowered cars with high mileages for insane prices. I guess sometimes you get used to awful products for so long that when finally something good comes along you don't even realize it. The car is good compared to what we are being offered. N most car companies usually borrow technologies when they begin atleast to keep up with the market so i see no issue here.

Just to conclude, the fact that there are many posts interrogating the car from its origin, assembly, Kenyan made, rebadge etc is a healthy engagement and it shows the enthusiasm Kenyans have for cars and in the end am sure Mobius or any other car maker willing to set up car manufacturing in Kenya will look at this post and take issues raised into consideration. As we have just started to crawl before we can walk in this new field of car manufacturing.

Personally, I think it is a good initiative and movement in the right direction. I have visited their assembly site and I know young mechanical engineers who have gotten employment as a result of these cars. Anyone who knows about industrial production will understand that rebadging is something that is very common. As time goes on and as their cars become more popular we will see them start producing more of their own productions and equipment. Plus find me any other zero mileage 2021 SUV in Kenya with a price tag of less than 5 million. If we decide to criticize, there is certainly alot to criticize about Mobius and if we decide to applaud there is also plenty. But I also understand you have to put food on the table, and that is why I have subscribed to your channel. Because it is about supporting each other and building one another as a country. Not only is it expensive to start a new car company independently, its next to impossible. Only a few like Tesla have managed to do that in the last 20yrs & it only made it because of government kickbacks, selling carbon credits to companies like FCA (now Stellantis) & selling tech/infrastructure like charging ports. There is no shame in badge engineering.

Thanks for the review, very informative. BUT: things are always not that black & white. Rebadging is common in the auto manufacturing industry. When Toyota did it (they recently rebadged a Maruti Suzuki into a Toyota Starlet/Glanza), they didn't hype it in their marketing either. It wasn't even in the fine print. Why? Because consumers get the wrong perception, they’ll think it's insincere. Same reason why Mobius hasn't mentioned it. The benefits of rebadging are it saves costs (to get you an affordable car), it reduces lead time (R&D is a long process) and it helps you start from somewhere. Here’s the real beauty: that car is the closest modern vehicle we have to a Made in Kenya car. If it was efficient to do complete manufacturing in Kenya I’m certain that they would. But the constraints of doing so are limiting; and they (Mobius) are starting from somewhere too.

Great content. Love it. Allow me to say this though. Apple being manufactured in China doesn’t make the brand any less American. Some Landrovers are powered by Ford Engines. Nike is manufactured mostly outside of US but very American as a brand and product. Palm oil is imported to Kenya to make the “Local” cooking oil that you buy in supermarkets. Nobody questions them. Massive industries are built on Strategic partnerships that leverage on YEARS of RND value. It’s impossible to beat China’s manufacturing capacity overnight. It’s more of a business model discussion. At this stage of growth, development and distribution is the model. Manufacturing can be outsourced. Especially for Africa. The brand is Kenyan. Although I do agree that the narrative they’ve put out may be misleading. However we need to be a bit open minded. Cheers though. As always great content 👍🏽👍🏽

Thanks for the great info. Kenya is doing well. This is what is called "glocal" in business language. Global products contextualized to fit local markets. Most products that we buy in Kenya have components imported and mixed locally to fit targetted customers and branded as made in Kenya. This explains why a Cocacola in Kenya, UK, China and many other countries taste different although they all bear the same brand.

Not a bad take on the politics of Mobius III. I would have wanted a bit more about the technical details of this ''parts bin'' car. From what I picked from a guy I saw with one recently, it has pretty good transmission (ZF) and a solid TDI ( he mentioned VW). Since Kenya doesn't really have any meaningful history of manufacturing cars, this conversation should really be about if this car is reasonably priced, and whether it's actually reliable.

I hope you wont sugar coat this review Mobius Motors needs to be told the truth. They cud have struggled and improve on Mobius 2 other than bringing a chinese BJ40 replica of Jeep Wranger and rebranding to Mobius 3. How i wish they just gave this car a different name i am aware companies have agreements to rebrand other companies vehicles but this move just made me feel mobius aint Kenyan.

I think manufacturing a car is very expensive. I genuinely think we really underestimate how much it costs. Thanks for this I didn't know mobius was a rebadged car. Though if I was mobius I'll still go with the narrative that it's a kenyan car to maximize sales. Is it ethical no, but the sales gives them enough time to build a genuine African car.

Nice video but I wanted to highlight something. The Mobius 3 is a right hand configuration though in the website it shows left hand and that is something they need to change in Thier website. Things on ground are different. It's a good car and I believe the price is high because of the cost of buying and assembling it in Kenya is quite high. But again I would like to ask, with 4.6million Kenyan shilling which SUV would you buy? A NEW mobius 3 with almost nil mileage or a USED European or Japan car that fits the same price and is as powerful?

Man! Your show is great man and your reviews are on point. I remember Mobius 1 or 2 and it was ugly- meant to save the African farmer; no power steering, no air conditioning, no real windows and full or rivets- which is bad for safety. With this Chinese one, it is going to be a hard task trying to beat Japanese imports and at that price...most people with about 4million will opt to get that japanese SUV. Maybe as you continue to review...you can let us know about the full specs, safety ratings, drive ability on the road and offroad, sound insulation, fuel consumption etc. Overall keep doing this shows. They are unique to Kenya...you may be the next car wow guy for Africa :).

@@corvusglaive5769 There not many...but marketing does not work like that. However, I think Mazda, Renault and Peugeot to name but a few, are quite competitive and don't forget Toyota has also introduced one or two affordable models. Most people with this amount of money will opt to go for what has been tested and works. Maybe if this was a locally done vehicle, it would be a different story. But to get a Chinese import over a Japanese one?- That's a hard sell but time will tell.

If I remember correctly, 4M kes buys you a Toyota Rush with zero mileage. Also, Mitsubishi has a brand new ASX for that price at Simba corp. Being Chinese, this thing is worth taking with a grain of salt. It looks the part, yes, but would you bet your money on an engine and tranny that is being manufactured in the CCP? Be very afraid. And again, this jeep & Jimny hybrid has no Kenyan terrain DNA whatsoever. It is just a pure marketing ploy. This vehicle should be marketed just like other brands, especially alongside Chinese vehicles like the Cherry Tiggos and such.

@@martinmwenda3551 well, not exactly, the car has been in production and in use in China and some African countries for a while. It just got introduced in Kenya. @@cavineomondi5487 that's true but that's not how customers sees it. People tend to rate anything coming directly from the chinese as poor quality. A middle quality assurance 'agent' is needed. $39,000,00 for a Chinese designed and Manufactured car is a little on the high side if I might say, and for an import that comes completely knocked down (CKD) and assembled here. CKD attracts less import duty and other taxes. If the VW vivo assembled here goes for far much less, what makes the Mobius any different?

Uganda is already ahead with the KIIRA electric car & bus. The UG government has allocated billions to the project including 100 acre land. In addition, Museveni has stopped importation of sub assemblies in order to enforce local manufacture of components. It means that KIIRA has had to set up a factory, send engineers to china etc. Our neighbors, Rwanda and Ethiopia are following suit...going electric/hybrid. Here we are celebrating petrol and diesel SUV from China, rebranded as a local build. I think we will be playing a bit catch up.
