About The Carol Burnett Show
While there’s no truth to the rumor that “CBS” ever stood for The Carol Burnett Show, for eleven seasons and 278 episodes, this star-studded extravaganza of sketch comedy, song and dance became entertainment central for the network and TV viewers. Burnett operated in a relaxed theater setting that allowed her to take questions, cut loose with her famous Tarzan yell and join fellow performers Harvey Korman, Tim Conway, Vicki Lawrence and Lyle Waggoner to have a laugh or sing a song. The show received 25 Emmy Awards and eight Golden Globes, making it one of the most honored shows in television history.

It seems that Carol, since she is a dear and always cared about her fans.. she most likely discovered her ambition and so decided to meet her and see for herself if the girl deserved a real chance and boy did she!! 😀 Mighty successful.

As Carol told it, before production, she went to the salon for a cut, took her eyes off what the hairdresser was doing, and in an instant she found that all her hair was on the floor. Instead of screaming, she just whooped with laughter... that was her attitude. Instead of wearing a wig, she just started the show with this strange crew cut, and let it grow back.

@@celiajarvis3168: From what I understand, Phyllis had a body that a super model would be envious of, but she, for her own reasons, did not like showing it off, but preferred to show off her comedic and musical sides. Whether she designed her own costumes herself or hired a designer, I haven't yet discovered, but I'm sure she had input into them at least at the beginning of her career. She will always be one of the great comedy icons of our times, along with Lucy, Carol, Ruth Buzzi and Imogene Coca.

As a teenager in Australia in the 60s I loved this show and nearly went into mourning when the show finished here.At that time most U.S. programs were about 18-24 months old before we saw them but even today the humour still exists. The best sketch was Tims'recounting the trip to the circus and the Siamese elephants trying to sneeze through their conjoined trunks.Vickis' remark about him finishing broke up the cast and the audience even here 12 thousand miles away.It is still available on a Google search or U tube.Carol turns 90 next April 2023.Bless her and all of the cast that have passed on.🙏🙏

@@markhorton3994: Yes, Red Skelton was one of the great clowns, who even Jerry Lewis said was the best, and Jerry was rightfully known as a clown. What I meant was that Red could deliver his monologues and jokes all without a curse word or anything that was even the least offensive PG rating. I believe the closest he ever came to going beyond it was in a skit with George Gobel about Christopher Columbus and the building of his three ships, and the line was, "It's a hull of a ship." (about the Santa Maria). Tim Conway could have been a clown when he wanted to be (and he seemed to want to be, much of the time) but Red *was* one of the best.

This I feel is one of the best classic episodes. I don't think I ever saw this until now. Great of the 60s guest star Booby Gentry, Phyllis Diller and Gwen Verdon. There impersonation of the Beatles were excellent.

I watched the show when I was younger. I had always heard about her sister, Chrissy but I’ve seen any pictures or video until now. She isn’t anything what I imagined. I guess Vicki’s resemblance to Carol made me think her real life sister would have looked more like her. That said, It’s great seeing this full clip of Vicki with the audience.

When I was 8 back in 1987 I used to watch this on my 10" blacknwhite TV in my bedroom late at night. It used to run on channel 11 in Dallas IIRC. Still think how lucky I was to be able to watch this as a kid. Really helped my appreciation of comedy at a young age.

I'm no big fan of dance numbers but this reminded me of all the great content that was left behind with they recut the shows down to 30 minutes. And in this episode I enjoyed every bit of it. From that first musical number with Gwen Verdon - which looked like something out of a Dr. Suese cartoon all the way till the finale tribute to Sgt. Pepper with all the ladies singing various parts. Its was spectacular all the way through!!
