Sitting here in self-isolation during the Covid 19 Pandemic, I think about all these talents that I am blessed to just 'click' on. For two days I have drifted through so many incredibly talented songwriters. Most of them seem to have been born around 1950, almost 10 years before me. They were given the magic and inspiration of poetry and music that came directly from their hearts and souls. A very special breed. So, when I came of radio age, there they were, as young adults making this music during a time in radio where all music came together on one or two AM stations. (1050 CHUM...TORONTO). Me, walking to school in September with the 3" by 3" transistor radio, not knowing that 50 years later I would be hanging onto their every word, every note. I wonder if one or more of you that is sitting in self-enforced isolation (because we are now the old people that this virus could kill) wishing that we were all in a big room listening and singing along together. I'm going to pretend you are with me tonight, and in the days to come. We are all in a park full of green in June, the sun is shining off the nearby water. "Our" music is playing, and we are singing along because we know every word. Sitting on a blanket, or standing alone, or dancing with a friend. Or maybe just holding your hand over your heart because it is almost TOO good. We are ALL so blessed to grow up when we did. See you in the park someday.

You have brought water to this man's eyes way to early in the morning. it is amazing how music binds us in an almost genetic way, deeper than that - spiritual. I fist heard "You've Got A Friend" sung by Roberta Flack and Donny Hathaway. Whether you find one version preferred above another, Carole King's poetry, along with so many others born in the 50's and early 60's, bind our spiritual cores in a harmony which only music manages to achieve, thanks again.

You’ve Got a Friend When you're down and troubled And you need some lovin' care And nothin', nothin' is goin' right Close your eyes and think of me And soon I will be there To brighten up even your darkest night You just call out my name And you know, wherever I am I'll come runnin' To see you again Winter, spring, summer or fall All you have to do is call And I'll be there You've got a friend If the sky above you Grows dark and full of clouds And that old north wind begins to blow Keep your head together And call my name out loud Soon you'll hear me knockin' at your door You just call out my name And you know, wherever I am I'll come runnin', runnin', yeah, yeah To see you again Winter, spring, summer or fall All you have to do is call And I'll be there, yes, I will Now, ain't it good to know that you've got a friend When people can be so cold? They'll hurt you, yes, and desert you And take your soul if you let them Oh, but don't you let them You just call out my name And you know, wherever I am I'll come runnin', runnin', yeah, yeah To see you again Winter, spring, summer or fall All you have to do is call And I'll be there, yes, I will You've got a friend You've got a friend Ain't it good to know you've got a friend Ain't it good to know, ain't it good to know Ain't it good to know You've got a friend Oh, yeah, now, you've got a friend Yeah baby, you've got a friend Oh, yeah, you've got a friend

There's a more accurate test though. He looks awful, and it's taking him at least an hour to eat now. I'm not sure what to do and if it's his kidneys, pancreatitis again, or something else. He did have an ultrasound done by his vet. It was normal. They managed to infect one nipple though prepping him for it. And he licks it longer with his rough tongue, so even neosporin stopped working.

When I first listened to this tune I was just a 11-year-old kid and I was so charmed. I didn't know English then and didn't understand the lyrics but still I felt it was a kind song of based on humanity and loving care. Music is universal language that reaches out everybody on this planet, I believe.

When you're down and troubled And you need some love and care And nothing, nothing is going right Close your eyes and think of me And soon I will be there To brighten up even your darkest night You just call out my name And you know wherever I am I'll come running, to see you again Winter, spring, summer or fall All you have to do is call And I'll be there You've got a friend If the sky above you Grows dark and full of clouds And that old north wind begins to blow Keep your head together And call my name out loud Soon you'll hear me knocking at your door You just call out my name And you know wherever I am I'll come running, running, yeah, yeah, to see you again Winter, spring, summer or fall All you have to do is call And I'll be there, yes, I will Now, ain't it good to know that you've got a friend When people can be so cold? They'll hurt you, yes, and desert you And take your soul if you let them, oh, but don't you let them You just call out my name And you know wherever I am I'll come running, running, yeah, yeah, to see you again Winter, spring, summer or fall All you have to do is call And I'll be there, yes, I will You've got a friend You've got a friend Ain't it good to know you've got a friend? Ain't it good to know, ain't it good to know, ain't it good to know You've got a friend? Oh yeah now, you've got a friend Yeah baby, you've got a friend Oh yeah, you've got a friend

Some people is asking who are the musicians accompanying her in this song. So, I made the homework and visited the site #CaroleKing #YouveGotAFriend #WelcomeToMyLivingRoom and found they are: the one with the hat is Rudy Guess, her guitarist, musical director and producer. The other artist is Gary Burr, a Nashville-based award-winning songwriter. "Gary is a gifted singer and guitarist who combines the sensibility of the working man with that of a poet," said Carol about him. Regards from León, Gto.. México.

Two-time inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame; Four Grammy Awards; inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, one of the most successful songwriters of all time with the likes of Aretha Franklin, Barbra Streisand and Celine Dion paying tributes to her; her songs have been covered by the Bee Gees, Roberta Flack and, yes, the Carpenters (who you mention), the first woman to be honored with the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize --- the list goes on. So, what exactly do you mean by "underrated"?

@alifmuhammadchicago 3 жыл бұрын
@@rumpledskin7971 I guess she's arguably underrated among female artists in a nostalgic sense. Compared to people looking back at Karen Carpenter, Janice Joplin, etc. But, then again, not really, because I have no idea how the average crowd of the 70s would rank them. Ida know.
@rumpledskin7971

@@alifmuhammadchicago Nostalgic sense = Memory Lane = Cool. However, just because Karen Carpenter, Janis Joplin, Aretha Franklin, Tina Turner, Etta James, Eva Cassidy or Carole King, are not the flavor of 2021, it does not mean they are "underrated". Young folks today are into Taylor Swift, Justin what's-his-name and all because time has moved on, tastes are different. I still listen to The Carpenters, Carole King, Tina Turner and the others mentioned, and the genres/sub-genres of blues, soul, flamenco, folk, rock and jazz but (like I said), these are not the flavor of 2021. Even The Beatles are more or less passé and musicians like The Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton and Buddy Guy are just hanging on (by adapting to the demands of the market today). You, Mr. Alif Muhammad or Mr. Mike Rubin or I cannot change that. Maybe Simon Cowell can! :--)))
