When someone is mistreated as a child, especially repeatedly and over time, often (usually, nearly always) they don't understand that they are wounded, that they were abused. They don't need to "tell their story," they need to understand what happened. That requires time and more than the witnessing of someone else, though witnessing is valuable. What Caroline says here is excellent EXCEPT THAT she skirts the depth and complexity of childhood wounding. Hers is a message for people who have already done that work.

Absolutely @Earlnn and that is my question. If you have accepted and integrated but can’t keep them in your life after growing up do you need to? Should you forgive and let go and reconnect or do you forgive and let go and move on?
@savioartwork10 ай бұрын
never reconnect with people who do not respect you, their are millions of people in the world, up to YOU, your soul, your experience, your energy to CHOOSE what feels good & flows natural, those people come you without very much pulling, pushing or thinking . . . . and it will feel good boundaries, honest, direct expression & communication is ALWAYS needed time to talk about intentions, expectations, irritations, anger, miscommunication, needs, feelings, ideas & options @@margaritabennett3062

I’ve been raped and tortured by my stepfather AND have done many years of jungian therapy, which frankly saved my life.. however do I forgive and just move on.. it’s just not that easy and frankly.. No !!! Don’t be around them anymore!!! It’s a mistake I made “trying” to heal the family I always wanted… i’ve come to realize that he was as sociopath and never really said he was sorry…… I have to move my life forward… And move into thriving instead of just surviving this… Which I have done however I do get triggered still by men who are narcissistic and liars and don’t really care about others feelings… And I think she said this.. what do we do about this?? That I don’t think she really addressed!

I disagree that children don't know that they are wounded. Children have an immense capacity to feel and to know that things are wrong, it's when children become silent that they are not able to cope with the abuse because they become too afraid to say anything but they still know that it's wrong and it hurts their spirit. So when a child is called shy or too quiet, that child might be hiding from pain and has become too afraid to speak but in fact the child is actually outgoing and was told they are shy by abusive adults. This sometimes is carried with them into adulthood and they never get over it. So that is something that is very important to watch for, when children become quiet, avoidant and stop sharing their thoughts freely then something is very wrong. They have lost their trust in the world around them and they have gone inwards. Becoming frozen is a trauma response.
@EarInn6 ай бұрын
I agree with everything you say except that children tend to blame themselves and take too much responsibility when things go wrong--so that even if initially they perceive correctly that they are being mistreated, they become confused about it and try to appease the adults by being "better." What you say about children being shy or too quiet is perceptive--and unfortunately not recognized by most people.

Sounds easy enough! Can help others of us to see what subconscious secondary gains might be fueling a so-called victim consciousness. …. attached to an old old story of helplessness could be a kind of stake-hold for hope… hope maybe this time ? I’ll be seen, maybe loved? Anyone? Out there? There can exist such a fracture between a real and a false self… There’s unconscious programming given to us by family lineage, it needs to be realized before we rise above, lay it to rest, move on from in my experience. Elizabeth Smart, in her book My Story, says she doesn’t know how she would have survived minus her deep knowing of her family’s unconditional love for her. She describes how it carried her in those nine months being assaulted by the dark side. To read her story and her Where There Is Hope was tremendously moving and ultimately so uplifting. We can all be strengthened by her mother’s love.
