I write on a postcard , every week to my Grandson ( who is 3 in October ) he apparently checks the post everyday for it ..then gets his Mother to read it to him .. he keeps it in his pocket to show his older friends .. his best friend is 87! Yes I write letters and I have a friend who always writes to me ..

when the cushions go flat i put two in one cover. Love stationery shops not just note books , pens. pencils. any type of note pads, anything to do with stationery. I love the Saturday mail just for a certain crossword I love in the magazine. I buy less fresh vegetables as they were going off before i got round to using them and Im very impressed with the frozen ones, also there is less preparation and less waste. As for music its spotify and boom for me now. Interesting video made me realise how some of my habits in buying has changed Thanks x

Hello Caroline. I agree with you on a lot of these items, we are more selective as we get older, (ahem!) We no longer buy newspapers, it just does not feel the same as our priorities change as well as the expense when you add it all up 9ver the year which can be put to better use. The same with magaz8nes which I resent paying for mainly adverts. I stick to one which only comes out every 6 weeks, as I really enjoy that one. We don't get takeaways, my son probably treats us once or twice a year to a Chinese. Shoes I definitely agree on, I have just decluttered enough shoes for a millipede for the charity shop the same with clothes, more quality than quantity. I have decluttered my nail polishes to give to my grandaughters and just keep a few, how many pairs of hands do we have? No more gadgets , I rarely use them whether it's for the kitchen or hairstyling I am not buying into the latest fad anymore, which to be honest just lay in boxes forever. No more cds and dvds, enough forever from every genre I like. Some food items we have stopped buying such as big companies have doubled their prices and more that we find we just buy less and less until we don't miss them Heinz we are looking at you. Plastic carriers have been replaced by good quality cloth carriers, it's surprising how much is saved by not buying the supermarket carriers, I resent paying for a bag with their logo on them, I can probably think of m9re but I will leave it as these few. I really enjoyed your v log as it validates my choices too. Gill❤

Hello Caroline! What an interesting & enjoyable video...some of the things that you've mentioned on here really hit home with me. Of course even though I haven't purchased a newspaper in YEARS, I will always treasure the memories of Sunday morning coffee & silence while reading them. It really was wonderful, but again, from a bygone era. Always enjoy brewing my coffee at home nowadays, and I don’t use nail polish anymore either. Not for any other reason other than I just don't!! Also want to add that I agree that Lockdown seems so surreal now...and I hope it stays that way FOREVER!!! Enjoy your week, lovely lady 💕

Hi Caroline. I work in a men’s prison in a world of no internet. It’s like stepping back in time as newspapers are very much purchased and eagerly read and letters fly in and out on a daily basis! These are all very valuable resources for the men! X

I've a penfriend for 40 yrs, we decided that even though we can and do communicate most days on social or whatsup, a letter is still our preferred, something special about writing your thoughts, dreams and news down on paper and sealing in an envelope. Using notepaper, recycled the plain back of flyers, vintage notelets found in charity shops. We've met up a handful of times more in past couple years. But immediately go home and write about our meet up 😆 very special to get a letter, put the kettle on and have a chat to my best on paper

I'm with you on the cheap shoes, Caroline! I also quit buying cute notebooks and stationary until I use up my stash. I haven't bought a magazine in probably over 10 years! Used to love browsing through a stack, just doesn't appeal to me anymore. During lock-down, I was desperate for a haircut, so I learned how to cut my hair myself using KZbin tutorials. Now, I can't even think of paying $50 - $150 for a cut in a salon!

Up until two years ago I was a frequent letter writer to both my aunt and a good friend of mine. They both passed within months of each other. I was writing to my friend in Australia since 1969 but we both use the internet now. Music is always Spotify. Have alopecia so no need for curling implements. Books, my downfall. I do occasionally like to buy an expensive book from somewhere like the Folio Society for a special occasion. I do get lots of books for free. Complete set of Robert Galbraith for instance. Have no sense of smell but always loved my perfumes. Only buy the ones I used to know but don't need to wear them very often now. Just makes you feel nice. Finally, for me, magazines. Had Country Living for years and cancelled the sub at the beginning of the year. Have been busy lately, sorting out bundles to give to friends. Great topic Caroline. Have a lovely week.

I don’t buy anything from Temu, Shein or the like. Can’t get past their working practices. I don’t buy seasonal decor, ceramic pumpkins, oven gloves with acorns on them etc. We only have the smallest of Christmas trees as we are never home for Christmas- we live abroad and go home to parents. We recently bought a record player and so are building up our vinyl collection again. The average LP now costs around £35-40! I can remember when they were about £3.99.

I agree with you on the shoes - I too now wear Vionic shoes and they are great. Several years ( and cheap shoes ago) I had a pair of £10 shoes that were the most comfy shoes ever and had been heeled several times and they really should have been thrown out but were too comfy for walking in so wore the life out of them eventually. The last time I got them heeled was at St Andrews and while talking to the cobbler he asked where I was staying and I said at the fairmont hotel nearby - I swear I could feel him giving me the side eye - since he was putting heels on an old pair of cheap shoes and I was talking about staying at one of the poshest hotels in the town. Still makes me smile when I think of that but the shoes are now long gone and comfort is the first priority at all times now. Was a great subject for a vlog and has me thinking what I could stop buying now. 😊

I still buy stamps, I write letters & cards to a group of high school friends. There are five of us and we "snail mail" each other twice a month, on birthdays & holidays. We live about 5 hours away from each other. We try to meet up at least twice a year and we do the mail to keep up with each other. You are so right about the cost of books, my kindle and the 1/2 price book store keep my bookcase full. You made me giggle with your notebooks, you reminded me of my oldest daughter, she loves them & new pens. So for birthdays, Valentines and Christmas, she gets a new pretty notebook and pen from me. It's our mother daughter thing. Thank you for the video today, you pretty well gave up things that I have done also.

Absolutely agree with your list…. Having done a recent small declutter of my make up, skin care and general beauty products, I was horrified at the amount I have never tried, or used once and didn’t like or just become fed up of using. I didn’t dare count up in monetary value, how much I had wasted. My obsession is ‘perfume’ at the moment….not even the packaging, simply trying scents I love the sound of, if you like a scent that lasts well, give Saltworks tester box…..varied selection and presented beautifully. A wonderful gift for a fellow perfume lover. Anyway, I’ve re-calculated my subject route (😉). Lovely video, Beth

Hello Caroline, it is good we are so different. I absolutely love having my daily newspaper delivered and delving into the crossword as well as the news in print. I am currently having my house decorated and the painter commented on all the smoke dirt on the ceilings caused by candles so I am afraid that is the end of buying candles. Hotter shoes are the best for me in terms of comfort. I too have been drawn into cheap Primark clothes. They look shabby in a short amount of time. It is so individual what we choose to spend our money on. Thank you

Morning Caroline, interesting topic and food for thought. I used to buy Peter Kaiser shoes, and have quite a lot that I have never worn! Similarly, I used to buy Basler outfits, and have jackets that have been worn once! The thing is that they are so well made and classic, that I still wear some of them occasionally. What stops me mainly is that I have spread out and they are now a bit tight! I find that if you are not careful, your wardrobe can appear to be a work of art to be looked at and admired, rather than have any practical value! I am getting to the point of ‘no longer buying’ from QVC, as they do not adhere to the online legal rules for me with regarding to repaying original postal charges! I think Kindle books can probably be obtained through Borrowbox via your local library. I listen to audiobooks that way as I travel a lot by car. Things I never do now, is have a shopping day out! I used to go to London a lot and spend all day trawling through the shops before the theatre. Probably the list could be longer if I spent time thinking, but glad you did to make this video, so thank you.

Hi Caroline I enjoyed that video! I certainly agree about not buying full price books anymore and can’t remember the last time I actually bought a paperback, let alone a hard back as I use my Kindle mostly and love the Kindle unlimited and the 99p Amazon books…..there is plenty of choice! I’m saying that there is always something I loved about opening a brand-new paperback …..both the smell and the feel! 😊 I agree with you on the shoe front too and dread to think how much I wasted on cheap shoes or just badly fitting shoes over the years!! I know only really wear Rieker, Hotter or some Next shoes which have extra comfort added LOL you have to be a bit discerning with the two brands I mentioned as yes, definitely some of them look very old-fashioned but they also have styles which are absolutely suitable for a 60-year-old woman…..and these days, comfort is everything! I used to buy lots of shoes/boots in M&S, but even those nowadays are just not wide enough or just not comfortable enough! HANDBAGS: I can’t say I don’t buy these anymore as I still love them but my life has changed a lot over the past years and I realise that I just don’t need as many as I used to have ….every colour of the rainbow, min all shapes and sizes lol I can’t remember the last time I bought one as I had so many to use before I really need one……but it always feels like a treat when I get one! ❤

I’ve never owned hair gadgets or products. My dear old mum used to say that if you’ve got a smart coat and expensive shoes you’ll do well. I’ve always purchased good shoes and jackets. These bits of advice stick eith us. I must also confess that my notebook addiction has recently reared its enthusiastic head. There were some beauties on sale so I purchased six. I’m going to give them as presents to all of my friends who still love them. My carer was just saying today that her 24 year old daughter was astounded that her mother actually wrote lists in a book. We had a good laugh about it but also worried that children won’t learn how to write with a pen, or be able to spell. ….Oops I’ve gone off on one. 🤣

Well that was fun and interesting Caroline. I haven't bought any nail polish for years I have a draw full that is used and so need none! I wear Ecco shoes and Vionics although Vionics are not that comfortable on my feet. I write a card and letter to my mum (who probably doesn't know who I am as she has dementia) every couple of weeks I print the stamp off and send, I am told that she enjoys them when they are read out!! I love writing letters and have a stack full for my kids that are in a box for safety. I hope that they will laugh and not cry, when I am no longer around and they read them. My son has kept my letters I wrote when he was a Uni and said they have got him through some tough times. I only buy decent cushion pads/cotton sheets and make my own cushion covers and curtains which suits me. I also make a lot of my own clothes now but the essentials like underwear etc are shop bought. We don't eat as much anymore so try to only buy what we really need otherwise we feel its pointless being that there is only two of us now. My downfall is sewing stuff, fabrics, patterns, crafting stuff and stuff for when I am hairdressing. The craft stuff you would hate, but makes me laugh when you try! xxx

Really interesting as always. If I made a list it would mirror yours. I have found that I stick to HOTTER, Ecco and Sketchers now for shoes. I no longer buy newspapers but my mother has one delivered every day. I do love stationery but try and control myself.

Regarding shoes, I now buy Rieker. They’re sort of trainers, but look a bit nicer. I like the ones that have a wider toe space for my wide feet. Regarding coffee, I bought a coffee pod machine from the British Heart Foundation for £15. They test electrical goods and guarantee them for 6 months. This one looked like it had never been used and I’ve had it for over two years. Love it. The coffee is lovely.

Interesting how our priorities change, I think we become more discerning with age. I have problem feet and have been buying Vionic shoes, sandals and boots for a few years and find they do wear well, my winter boots will be making an appearance and they still look good 3years hence. My other buy no more is make up, having suffered with a nasty skin problem I can no longer wear foundation or eye make up. My make up bag is very sparse these days, eyebrow pencil and lipstick, initially this really upset me as I’ve always been into make up but I’m used to it now. Always love your videos ❤

I was recommended Moshulu shoes and sandals by a chiropodist. Lots of lovely colours and they are often on offer. I have a friend who hates the telephone and is a bit of a technophobe so we now only communicate by letter as she moved away 5 years ago. I do find it a bit frustrating at times as i dont feel i can just message her a quick thought or whatever

Thanks Caroline. I love a notebook and use them for writing up the books that I’ve read and make a note of the plot and if I liked it (do this mostly for the 2book groups I’m in). Have never been a newspaper buyer. Get any news from the radio then immediately shout at it “that’s ridiculous!!” Music via Alexa / Radio 2 / Ken Bruce et al. Luckily I’m not hard on shoes so when I do buy them it tends to be in a sale from a good quality shop (got a pair of white Gabor brogues for £9 down from £150 - rational for buying is even if I only wear them a few times they bring me joy!!) I get books from WoB or library or library app “Libby” including audiobooks (very useful for sunbathing on your front) I have an insulated cafetière which holds a good sized mug plus a bit more. I’ve discovered that you can ask for “extra hot” when ordering coffee from Costa etc Enjoy your vlogs for the variety of topics Thank you.

I usually buy Hotter shoes as they do half sizes which are difficult to come by. I was always a size 5 till they resized to European size 38 which are fractionally shorter in the foot. Also Clarks are OK, and Sketchers for casual wear. I hate buying shoes, so difficult to find comfy styles. Thank you for mentioning that water flosser, I hate dental floss too! And I love a nice notebook.

In the last year I have written a letter to each of my family and friends and relatives and they were all so delighted to receive them. Instead of buying sympathy cards now I would rather write a wee letter as I feel it’s much more personal and I think much appreciated. After my own devastating loss earlier this year I found that getting a letter was just so comforting (as well as cards)

Hi Laura, I've had various ones over the years from cheap to expensive and none of them last for very long (I assume the water eventually gets into the motor). So I now only buy cheap ones as I've found they all do a similar job in terms of performance. This is the one I've got currently, only £20 and it works really well amzn.to/3XLcQGC

Birkenstocks are very comfortable - i have had plantar fascitis in the past and these give plenty of support - i have many pairs, non look frumpy. I wear them for 7/8 hour shifts at work. They would certainly be good for NY as they will give you support and keep you warm.

I found Skechers to be the most comfortable shoes ever. Whether it be trainers, sandals (even sparkly ones), sliders or walking shoes I have never had a blister, sweaty feet (I don’t generally have this problem anyway) or that burning sensation on the ball of the foot. My ‘go to’ every time. However, Veja to trainers in there range called Impela - they’re the most comfortable trainers I have EVER worn 😊

Good morning Caroline, my friend and I have known each other since we were five, we met on our first day at school, we are now both nearly seventy and although we message each other regularly, we always write a letter in with Christmas and birthday cards each year, that little personal touch is lovely. I no longer buy hair dye! I’m a natural redhead and have found in recent years that my hair has gone a lovely peachy blonde down the front and my fringe and the rest is a red to strawberry blonde, which I love. My mum always told me that redheads never go grey and she was so right, I’m lucky enough that at nearly seventy and having survived chemotherapy, I don’t have a grey hair on my head. My hair is long and I think that even if I was grey, I still wouldn’t bother with dye, I love the look of long grey hair and especially hate all the root touching up etc. Have a great day and thankyou so much for sharing, you are such wonderful company!❤❤
