Karen, your channel is so real and honest. I just want to hug you. You have wonderful children who I don’t doubt are more than happy to help their mum and dad during this awful time. The budget envelopes are a great way to keep a bit of control. I have used them myself and it works. Your worry and fear is palpable, understandably and that’s where we can help a little by listening and offering tidbits of advice from our own experiences. It’s a criminal madness that people like yourselves are fighting your hardest battle at the moment whilst having to jump through bureaucratic hoops to get some understanding from these faceless corporations. Please, consider your own health and well-being through all of this. You are doing an amazing job, and I personally feel honoured that you chat so candidly about your journey through this hellish nightmare you are navigating. Prayers and hugs xx Beth 🇬🇧🐻

Hi Karen. So sorry to hear that dealing with UC is so stressful and frustrating. My friend is battling with them too. It seems they have no common sense or care about people. My advice is to send any forms by recorded delivery so they can't deny when they received them. Contacting your MP to send in a letter can help also. I wish you both well and things improve for you soon. X X

Absolutely agree. NEVER deal with these people ,without proof you've sent the relevant paperwork. This is from experience. ALWAYS keep copies, for yourselves, of EVERY document, either sent by them to you, or visa versa. Because things magically disappear! We went 'belt and braces' , by keeping copies on the computer and also printing off paperwork to put it into a file, for a dated 'papertrail' It's a faff and, these days, you'd think it's unnecessary, but it aids my peace of mind! Always put a 'read receipt ' on any email, so you know someone HAS opened, and read it. And always use recorded delivery if sending paperwork. Good Luck

I’m so sad to hear about your problems, my late husband and I went through a similar thing as my husband had a very bad mistake from the NHS after an Operation and the would not help as they didn’t want to say it was down to them. “Until” we decided to put it in the hands of a solicitor then they sat up and got worried thing took time to get sorted 4years to be honest, but then we got the help that I could have to help him. Sadly he didn’t live much after we got it sorted. Try the Library as they have retired people that can help with forms. Good bless hope things can be sorted soon. ❤️

Isn't it always the way that frustrations with 'systems' be they NHS, DWP, whatever, is the thing that stresses us out the most? It's just absurd the way things are done in this country. Imagine if you were the patient and you had no loved ones to help you out. A good cry is always therapeutic. Onwards and upwards. At the end of the day Warren getting better is the only thing that really matters Karen. Putting cash into your purse is a great way of keeping a close eye on your money - I always used to do it - now I usually transfer my 'variable spends' onto a pre-pay debit card. When it's gone it's gone!

Oh Karen you poor thing, my heart goes out to you. My husband and I spent many years trying to keep our heads above water, but didn’t have the stress of such an awful illness to deal with. Vinted is a great place to earn a little money and is worth a try, and surely you should be able to get carers or attendance allowance if you are having to help Warren with every day tasks like dressing or washing etc. we found the CAB totally useless but our council were exceedingly helpful, maybe you should speak to them about your council tax, also the water suppliers will help with a reduction in payment for low income families. Unfortunately so much of the begging and scrounging ( which is how I felt) is the part you have to play, and as you say the frustration is immense. I use admit I shed a tear for you watching this, strangely ( like many of your followers) you feel like a friend. We all want to support you and your family on this platform. Thinking of you all. So sorry to hear you’re having all this trouble if I was you I would get another sicknote for Warren for at least three months or even ask for six months then DWP will probably do a assessment to see if he’s fit for work. They should send the form you were talking about Out to you. Obviously with him being so poorly, they should find him unfit for work. I think it’s a case of one person doesn’t know what the other person is doing. Not sure they even read the journal properly I hope you get it sorted. Karen, I have started drawing cash for weekly shopping. I have tried £100 to get me through the week, but my cash has run out already and I had to use my card, so in effect it is probably about £125. There is 3 of us because our son still lives at home, but he does buy a few things and frankly one extra doesn't make a lot of difference. I try to be careful, we do buy a couple of bottles of wine a week but we don't go out to the pub or anything so why shouldn't we. Karen let it all out….. I’ve been there and understand completely. It leaves you speechless. I sit and watch on a daily basis neighbours taking the Micky while claiming all sorts of benefits they can clearly work, it sickens me and the honest people struggle & fight. No wonder there’s a big black hole Starmer keeps banging on about 😡 I did the same with envelopes and weekly expenses (that’s how my parents taught me). An emergency fund sounds a good idea. Brilliant folder Karen There maybe some charities that could help you. When my twin died and her children came to live with me someone suggested this and it helped us no end… it was a local church that helped us. I’ve just read another subscribers comment saying you shouldn’t talk about money as there are others in the same/similar position, I hope they never have to be where you are now. I thought this unfair, you are only letting us know how you’re all managing. and I for one am happy to contribute by listening. Kindest regards to you and yours. ❤❤

Hi Karen I still feel as tho I am still knocking my head against the wall. I was exactleyte same before you when I was on EsA. Totally numpties they are as no one seems to know anything. A bit strange lol. This lady you spoke to re the expenses food and there was no way on earth is £500 a month expensive. You canot eacrtly live on beans on toast as that’s not good fora you or your husband. She is living in the clouds. What a nightmare !!!. I hope that you get your pip sorted out. I know that they have a backlog as I been waiting too Al the best and have a nice week. See you ibthe next one xx

Would you not consider taking on a part-time job yourself or doing an evening shelf part king job in Tesco just to help get you over the hump?

Providing regular content for us to watch and enjoy here on KZbin IS a job! Hats off to Karen for continuing to produce vlogs and keep us updated when she has so much on her plate at the moment 💕

Hi Elizabeth - I have considered a part-time job but I don't feel my husband is well enough to be left on his own. He has panic attacks. He also has a very low immune system due to the lymphoma and the treatment which means any infection will put him in hospital. I felt working outside of the house could mean I bring infection home to him. The plan before he was diagnosed was that I would build up my KZbin channel + content creation income to a place where he could give up his job as a painter & decorator. Unfortunately the diagnosis came before we were at that stage so I'm continuing to try and build this as a business while caring for Warren. Hopefully if/when he goes into remission we will have replaced most of the benefits with income I earn from this, but it is a slow process.

Hi Karen, I think it is disgusting the way you have been treated your husband has cancer surely they must understand that he can’t work. I know from personal experience when my husband had cancer he was retired so we didn’t have to worry but his cancer was terminal. Can’t you get your doctor to just sign him off. I think the DWP are disgraceful they way have treated you, if you skin was a different colour you would get the help. I also think the mortgage people aren’t being at all helpful you only have 5 years on your mortgage you think they would give you at least 6 months leeway. I don’t blame you to feel so frustrated. I am thinking of you and praying things will get better.🙏🙏🙏

I am sure that I heard that PIP can be processed quickly in the case of cancer dx. Are you in touch with Macmillan? They helped my mother. (It's awful that the disease prompts quicker processing times, but maybe it would help.) To save money with your food shopping, do you have a digital pressure cooker.....? Fantastic for budget meals, and always healthy. I got one, and it virtually saved my life. Could certainly help with reducing food expenses I would say. xx

MacMillan put us in touch with the Citizen's Advice who have been quite helpful, but there is no fast track it would appear. I was thinking about a slow cooker but not sure it would be worth it as I don't eat meat. Some planning is needed I think xx
