For fantasy I would recommend Walter Moers - his books are super creative! He is often described as writing children's books for adults which I think is quite fitting because a lot of his stories combine the creativity of a great middle-grade fantasy with a darker twist. I absolutely love his eye for detail, and his writing makes me want to read it out loud! He also illustrates his books himself.

It makes me happy that there are people like you two ladies in this world. I've never heard of readathons like this and find it both impressive and adorable. I get the feeling that, with all the electronic and media distractions in the world, there is less and less reading going on by young people so this is very heartening to see. I hope others get inspired by you and give reading a try and find out the magical places your mind can take you with a good book. Best wishes!!

the pockets in outerwear top pieces are usable, they're just sewn shut for production and selling issues and they're supposed to be opened after you buy them obviously there are exceptions and some pockets are indeed just decorative (specially in womenswear) but if the seam closing the pocket is not as tight as the ones used on the rest of the piece they can be opened

although I haven't read the novel so I can't speak for its significance, Fools Rush In (where angels fear to tread) is an idiom which basically means silly people rush into making decisions without putting thought behind it, so I presume one of the novels' characters is foolish? there's also a fantastic song of the same name which has been recorded by people such as Sinatra, which is probably one of my favourite songs!

Tell Emmie to read “in our time” and “farewell to arms” by hemingway next!! I fell in love with Hemingway when I studied him in my first literature class years ago. “In our time” is a compilation of short stories on a character nick he based off himself. Its a gem! And I recommend because everyone raves about “the sun also rises” and its my least favorite of his novels ive read

Agree Farewell to Arms a logical starting place but my favorite always has been For Whom the Bell Tolls.

I was wondering who have you reacted to his novels, knowing he used to beat his wife and pet. I have asked several other Hemingway readers, as i have been wanting to read him as well, just have been unable to differentiate the author from his actions, and usually I'm told that his works are such masterpieces so one just have to ignore the horrible person he was.
@kurlykaitlyn2 жыл бұрын
@@pranveramulgeci5242 honestly your comment annoys me so much. He is long dead and I’ve long heard people argue this after i express my admiration of his art. I dont care what person he was. I like him for his art and i dont let his personal life affect my opinion of his writing. 🤷♀️ He may have been an asshole of a husband but he is also a superb writer. Dont ignore good art. its common many good artists are tortured. And you dont have to like him because you like his books. 👍
@jamesduggan72002 жыл бұрын
@@pranveramulgeci5242 Well, tbh, I read Hemmingway several years ago - long before any of those charges were levelled against him - and highly respected his great genius without really liking the reading experience. So, for me your question would be re-written as 'would it change my opinion ?' And yes, it would, tho nevertheless they are great works of art but no I dont think I could support the career of someone who has been accused of being a monster.

The title, Where Angels Fear to Tread, is a play on the words angels/Angles, which is an anagram sometimes used by the English: Angels=English. In the Edwardian era, and beyond, the English often "feared," or at best condescended to, foreigners, including Italians, because of socio-cultural differences which the English viewed as uncivilized. I believe Forster is using the term "Angels" ironically in the title, and as a subtle critique of English prejudice.

I'm 200 pages in A game of thrones and I actually don't appreciate his writing style. I enjoy the plot, names, characters but the way he's writing don't make me hooked much. I don't know. I've got into fantasy many years ago but as a matter of fact I haven't read many authors. One of them was Terry Goodkind and it was him who got me invested (even if his story got worse throughout the series which is unfortunately true) and it's hard for other author to do it better for me. So, you asked us to recommend something. If you're ready to start a series knowing that likely you wont finish (given that the series is extremely long), try Wizard's First Rule. Cheers :)
@oak_leaf2 жыл бұрын
To be clear, I don't want to say Goodkind's better than Tolkien, Rowling, or whoever you may consider top 5 fantasy writers. His works are just very catchy. Also, I'm in love with forest and libraries and so is the writer. For me it's a pure joy to read about someone walking round the trees or extremely old volumes of rare books. So please, do recommend me other works I would cherish on scenery level :)

George R R Martin shame on you! Authors who start a series and then refuse to finish it efficiently are the bane of all readers. There's supposed to be two more novels to this series but 'will we ever get them'? Unlikely, as Martin is refusing to get on with it, personally writers like Martin have no consideration for the readers. He'll die and the series will never be completed, he'll just leave us out in the cold as John Snow was left at the end of the tv series "out in the cold'! Insulting to readers!
