Great video sir. Love the wide selection of tools you carry in your bags. Thanks for your service bro. I too was in the Military.

Dude, make a go bag, I used to have everything on me to but it's way to heavy. I use the millauwkee tote, and have everything in there now and at the start of the day I'll pull our the tools I need for the job, and that's it, aside from the standard kit.

Thanks for the comment and the advice! I am really looking into a bag or backpack for my electrical and if it works out, maybe for much of my construction/carpentry belt tools. Great advice!

Thank you for checking out the video and your nice comment. I really appreciate the support. I have benefitted from so many professionals putting up videos about all things construction, I am hoping to contribute to the ideas and discussions that have been so helpful to me and my construction business. Glad this video may have offered some useful information to you!

Typically I keep it lightish. Definitely not the guy who's asking to borrow anything from the guy next to me though... doing some "research" on belt videos at the moment. Getting ready to film/upload my own. Paying it forward- trading 1 for 1 if your into it. Subscribed- commented. Love those tables by the way. Mine is a straight up beast(3×6). Building out a few 2×4 versions soon.

Thanks for commenting CPDYI! I have been in the habit of my belt becoming my toolbox for a long time now and it is hard to break the habit so I tend to have 20lb of stuff. I also do not wear the belt as often and when I do, it is usually for a dedicated project and so I can load/unload accordingly to minimize weight but have the tools needed. My electrical belt is no better. Myself, I am researching backpacks (Klein, Veto, off-brand) and seeing if I can't have the cake and consume it too. Have a light belt with very basic tools and have a grab-go backpack that is easy to shoulder and take in to the jobsite and "have it all" without having to "belt it all" thus freeing up the belts to be more functional. Let me know if you post a video about the belt-research results and about your benches! Love to steal ideas from anyone who shares.

@@sdsconstruction definitely will. My edc video is uploading as we speak, but I have snails in a fish tank that move faster. Was hoping to have it out this morning but it will be out by 5 eastern at worst. The research was simply to see how guys with certain subscriber counts are structuring the vids themselves. Went with a shoot from the hip approach, doing my best to keep out the fluff. Wound up at about 9 minutes long. Hitting it hard making content. Took a bit of time away from it to make sure I actually wanted to commit. I'll be around from now on. Looking forward to sharing it all. Have a good day.

@@clovisprojectdiy I look forward to it. Just watched you track build. Cool! I have unsuccessfully tried to match a few people I follow on YT to better craft my videos. My jibber-jabber tendencies get in the way. But.....I am working on it. I am thinking about trying out filming projects and then using a voice over for any description. I have done this a little in the past and I am less likely to "fluff it up" with voice overs. Best of luck with the channel! I will look for the EDC video.

Sounds complete! What kind of work do you do primarily? I end up doing a little of every/anything on a job from framing to finish so my EDC tries to reflect that. And…..Thanks for checking out the video and commenting!

@@sdsconstruction It's minimalist but these are my most used hand tools. I believe wearing a tool belt/vest is essential to being productive. I do a little bit of everything like yourself and I have several Oxy Leather setups. Primarily a trim belt and two sets of framing belts. One all leather and one nylon/leather belt. I also have the Oxy stronghold suspension system. The trim setup I have is excellent but if only Oxy had included a mini speed square slot in the fastener pouch, a tape pouch on the tool bag and an inclined leather hammer loop it would be perfect.

Good stuff. Do you have multiple belts for different types of work (framing, electrical, finishing, etc.)? It would be interesting to know not just what’s in a belt, but what the use cases are for the different collections. For example, there were a few items in your belt that I would not have expected as EDC, like tin snips. (I’m not a pro-just curious.). Thanks! I hope you hit 1K ASAP.
@sdsconstruction2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for commenting! I only have two belts. One for general carpentry/finishing (this one) and one for electrical and have a video on that one posting in a few weeks. I also have a tool box where I carry dedicated plumbing. I have found that carrying the snips is something that I don't use a lot but come in surprisingly handy so I have never bothered to take them out. This belt evolved over a bunch of years and has been just about like you see it in the video for a long time. It is the culmination of being on tons of projects and the typical go-to tools to make them all happen (not counting specialty tools and power tools of course).

Why do you need a new hammer. Point of buying an estwing is you never need to buy a new hammer. I've been a carpenter for about 8 years using my dad's estwing that he used for about 35 years. I took it over then he died. Guys give me a hard time but it always finish the nail first.

Hi Adam, thanks for commenting! Very cool that you inherited your Dad's hammer! I only have a few tools from my Dad but cherish them all and still use them and imagine he is there with me on the jobsite that day. Always a warm thought. Why buy another Estwing? Here is why I did: I have only ever bought Estwing hammers. The first one (20oz framer) I bought when I entered construction in 1989. I still have it and still use it. BUT .... The flared end of the handle is really worn down and rounded over as well as the rest of the rubber handle is not as pliable as it used to be ....so my handle has very "low friction". In some situations, without the flared handle guard on the bottom, I have had the hammer slip and go off on its own. Wet hands, gloves, etc. So I bought a new one around 2019 to get the flared handle guard and better handle friction to keep it from slipping when using it. I lost that one in 2020 down a joist cavity in my balloon-framed house so I went back to the '89 original. Eventually I bought yet another new one in 2022 which is in my belt today and is the jobsite hammer. As I recently demo-ed my first floor walls last spring I found and retrieved the "new" 2019 hammer! So now I have three 20oz Estwings. Like you say......my original 1989 Estwing still does the job and I use it around the house. I only added the new hammer to my inventory for convenience and "safety."

@@sdsconstruction that's awesome that you got your hammer back! I get it. My dad was right handed so the whole right side of the handle is about 1/4 inch thinner lol. And I am left handed so it's not the most comfortable. Got a great picture of my two year old son playing with it the other day though and sent it to my mom saying it'll be a third generation hammer someday soon. I was more or less making the ol' Estwing is unbeatable joke. I've always had this mindset like I can't get my own hammer because I have my dad's. But I just recently learned about rigging axes when I discovered the essential craftsman on KZbin. I became fascinated with them. The history of them and that at one time an axe was just as important to a carpenter as a hammer. Couldn't get them out of my head. So just the other day I bought one. I've been using it on the job and am sold. As much as I love that inheritance of tools, I finally feel like I have MY hammer. At the same time I have been getting real into old time woodworking in the shop and have decided to craft my own handle for it out of locust. I've never had a hammer with a wood handle. Just the "ancient Estwing" as the guys call it. Which is full metal. I like the idea of aspects of wood handle tools being customizable to the individual.

Very cool to hear that you have your dad's tool legacy continuing with your son and the hammer! If you get invest in the new kind out there, he can benefit from having his dad's hammer someday and a piece of your legacy! With my three Estwings, I am set up if I ever have triplets. And....as we all know......nothing beats an Estwing.........nothing! (mic drop) : )

Hey there CookDislslander! Thanks for checking out the video. You nailed it. I don’t have a small BT speaker for the belt. If I am with a crew and homeowners are not around, we have a job site BT radio going. If I am alone with no homeowners, I just use my phone’s speaker to listen to Pandora or SXM. I don’t wear earbuds for safety issues. If homeowners are around, the rule is no music. Thanks for the comments!

I don’t care for he diamond back bags although they are great quality the pockets are just too small. Switching back to occidental bags with diamond back vest.
