Any good carpenter, both in the west and east, will have the knowledge, tools, and experience to build like this. Any regular person doing a DIY to save money, isn't. Taxes are too high in the west to sustain labor intensive jobs that are not considered mandatory. Like housing, electricity and plumbing. You have to sell your products at 2 to 3x the price to pay the taxes.

Nothing but respect! I'm moving soon and tempted to just order something like this off Amazon, but I'd _really_ like the pride in saying that I built it. So, I'm going to build one. Temporarily, I'll just use a frame from Walmart for the mattress until I get the stuff and a weekend to work on the build.

To make it look fully floating, you can cover the base with mirrors, that are mounted in an angle reflecting the floor. You just have two small seames in the front corners.
