Thank you for your wonderful reaction video. Dominica hit the meaning of the song perfectly!!! It's about a girl who idolizes a rock star on the radio, a Superstar. She goes on to meet him at a concert and then 'she' falls in love with him. Karen Carpenter was an amazing vocalist ... and a drummer. Although she and her brother performed some 'cover' songs, Richard wrote some very good songs, too.

This song is about a young (perhaps teenage) girl who fell in love with a singer she heard on the radio..."it's just the radio". For some reason, she took the lyrics of the song to heart and believed every word. Back then, it was an easy thing to do for both girls and boys. It amounted to having a "crush" on a performer, even though we all knew it would never amount to anything.

Great reaction! Karen could sing the phone book and I'd be just enthralled the whole time. Her voice is like satin - the smoothest, most effortless sounds you've ever heard! Regretfully gone WAY too soon! RIP. What's also amazing is that, for as incredible a vocalist she is, she is an even better drummer! Honestly - check some earlier videos of her behind the kit, and you'll see another effortless talent! Her brother, Richard, is a great pianist and composer. Talent abound in that family!!

When the Carpenters heard the song it was 1970. Richard Carpenter watched Bette Midler perform the cover on The Tonight Show. The Carpenters cover of “Superstar” became the most famous version of the song. Yet, the duo had to change a certain lyric to fit their clean image. Richard Carpenter had switched “And I can hardly wait to sleep with you again” to “And I can hardly wait to be with you again”. Richard received a Grammy nomination for “Best Arrangement Accompanying Vocalist” due to his work on “Superstar.” Karen Carpenter had nailed the first recording of “Superstar” in one take. Richard Carpenter had scribbled the lyrics on a napkin and she nailed it.
