It's much easier to vacuum carpeting in the other direction, pushing the pile down when pushing forward so that you're not met with resistance, pulling the pile up on the way back slowly leaving the pile standing and reappearing the pass over each spot four to six times for thorough cleaning and even grooming.

The problem isn't how plush these carpets are it's that instead of having a jute or cotton backing they have a rubber backing and it forms a complete seal.

I totally agree with you. Its not as if the fibers are getting wrapped around the roller brush. It's the suction. My carpet like most new carpets, have a poly film keeping spills from going through to wood or cement flooring. Makes spills easier to pick up

They should try some of these tests with the old school uprights such as the Hoover Convertible or the Eureka 1934 series.

lol I remember a couple of weeks ago I got a new vacuum, it has so much suction that it's almost stuck to the carpet. At least I get a good workout when vacuuming now.

vBDKv What kind is it? Reason I ask is that sometime if it's too stuck (too low) to the carpet it may not clean as good.

As a professional housekeeper for 25 year's and truly loved my career, only retiring because I've now had my Left knee replaced, Right shoulder and Left shoulder shortly,...I'm broken from my job but loved it. I've used and seen them all as far as vacuum's and carpeting. I have low as well as high pile carpeting in my own home and the only vacuum I'll use is a Shark. I've actually run them up against the other's in every price point from $180.00-$1,000.00. I'll keep my Shark :) Most of my client's bought them after I'd vacuumed with their vacuum and then vacuumed the same area again with mine. What they saw that my Shark picked up and theirs' left behind was shocking to them and by the time I recently retired, 95% of my client's owned a Shark. Just my own personal feeling through a lot of experience.

Shark is the only modern vacuum I'll rank up there with my vintage Kirbys in cleaning ability on deep pile carpet. Where Shark falls down (and it's gotten better) is their durability. Of course, when the competition is Dyson, Shark outshines them by miles.

Ms Audrey which Shark would you recommend for a high pile carpet? We just moved with 6 kids to a house with high pile carpet - my dyson won't work at all. Did i mention 6 kids with no working vaccuum?!! lol. Needless to say I'm begging for a new vaccuum for this Mothers day. I would greatly appreciate your Shark suggestion? Thank you so much. Did you guys test Kirby, Rainbow, Electrolux, or Dyson? If so you should maybe mention performance. You give the impression that you've tested EVERYTHING and these ones featured in your video are tops.

When I bought my new Shaw ultra plush carpet I was worried because reviewers said Dyson's brush tore their carpet. However, when I vacuumed with the like new used Kirby I'd bought for next to nothing off Craigslist, it cleaned it with ease. The Kirby's a monster though. Weighs a ton. Changing the attachments is a pain. But, it cleans anything.

@@janremus1539 I second that. Great for floors or low pile carpet/ non-sealed carpet backing. Using on high pile is agony. You will need to shower after!

This is a pretty dated video now looking at the vacuum they test in this video are discontinued. At Kenmore is a pretty horrible machine compared to previous generations.

What you did not show, and I wish you would have, is this: How much of the carpet fiber are you vacuuming up on these ultra plush carpets? I’m finding that you are recommending machines based on their vacuuming performance, with absolutely no regard for how gentle they are or how damaging they are to the carpet. Your top rated shark would vacuum the chrome off of a trailer hitch. It will also beat the living snot out of that Shaw Caress carpet and fill up with carpet fiber that it’s tearing away within just a couple of passes. These manufacturers are recommending machines that may give up some performance, in the name of not tearing the carpet fibers to shreds. You might want to look at gentleness the next time you rate vacuums.

So far Dyson cyclone v 10 can't move even by lower suction, Kenmore highest level a little easier but doesn't pick up, Bissel again pushing a boulder.

I wish it were that simple. These manufacturers put out lists of approved vacuum cleaners. But almost nothing on the list is in Consumer Reports, or is out of date. My housekeeper uses an Oreck XL.

An Oreck XL doesn't have the CFM to deep clean. I have one myself that I use as though it was my electrickbroom daily but at least once per week I use a real vacuum.

You should get something with a manual hight adjustment. Kirby, Royal and Sanitare are good choices.

Had that hoover windtunnel pet addition and it was absolute garbage. Couldn't push it on lowest setting and couldn't pick anything up on higher setting. Same problem with shark - which consumer reports says is the most reliable. All lies and bullshit. Will not be using consumer reports to determine next vacuum purchase.
