2001 Ford Explorer Into 2000 Ford Explorer 90° Side Crash Test (ECE 96/27/EC - 51 Km/h)

A 50 Km/h (31 Mph) 90° Side impact performed by Transport Canada at PMG Technologies in Blainville, Quebec on 11/15/2001. The research procedures used are referred to the PMG procedure 214 V5 dated June 10th 1999 and the ECE procedure, directive 96/27/EC dated May 20th 1996. The target Explorer's occupants are Hybrid III 5th Percentile Female dummies, the bullet Explorer's occupants are SID-IIs 5th Percentile Female dummies.This test features a 2001 Ford Explorer impacting a 2000 Ford Explorer with Head/Torso Side Airbags at a 90° angle centered on its b-pillar.

The target vehicle's driver dummy head might be spared, but the neck was certainly stretched. Two decades later side impact airbags are soooo much larger. Good progress in side collision protection.
