Surely if you need a phone to connect to this device it would just be cheaper to buy a phone mount and use your phone? Whole point in having CarPlay is the fact it’s integrated into your headunit.

It would be illegal to operate your phone when driving, even if it is installed in a mount of some sort, however, operating CarPlay isn’t wether it’s integrated into a head unit or a sat-nav style system as featured in the video. The whole point of the video was to showcase an option for people who want to take advantage of CarPlay but don’t have a suitable head unit to support a retrofit as I’ve done in my personal F56.

That’s not actually true though. If your phone is in a holder and it’s being used hands free then your good to go. www.gov.uk/using-mobile-phones-when-driving-the-law

Do you get a pop sound when using the AUX input when turning on vehicle of the volume is up ? I can’t fix it

Is there a better spot/position to put this in a Mini Cooper? Such a small windshield, it seems like it would hinder vision of the road. Thx

I got one last year called Coral Vision Carplay (now, the original version) for $350. It works well for navigation (Android Auto - Waze) but has a few flaws (1) the settings (including night/day mode, time zone, brightness, and volume) can't be changed from the default settings, so I always have to run it in night mode all the time. (2) the BT hijacks my car pairing with my phone, so preventing me from answering my calls directly from my car's head display, and the only way to stop this is by totally unpairing the Coral with my phone (3) the music menu (Amazon music/Spotify) doesn't keep a record of track history or playlists. (4) no software update (agreed, this might not be possible for any third-party instrument). (5) very noticeable static sound (I always connect via AUX cable for loud sound or to prevent interferences from FM radio stations). Do you find these challenges with this one you reviewed? I'm planning to buy this one provided that the software is better. Thank you.

good video ben the suction arm keeps falling off of the dash , and when fitted to the glass the amount of Vibrating is shocking ,all in all its a great unit But the mount options and rubbish

Mini quoted me 4 grand, ! …. yes 4,000 euro to upgrade my head unit to get CarPlay ….madness !
