I don't understand the obsession with Martinez's height. He clearly works well in Ten Hag's system, he even won POTY at Ajax. When you play a high line, it's more important for the CBs to be agile and read the game well since they cover a lot of space. In a high possession side you also concede a lot less set pieces, so height isn't as important. The problem is that we're not playing in Ten Hag's system because the other players are lazy shits with a weak mentality and are not suited for it. He's shown very good ability to read the game and to intercept the ball against absolute units and quality strikers like Haaland and Nunez. It's not all just "tall CB good, short CB bad". If that was the case, a tall fridge like Maguire would be the best CB in the league.

@paulachin91302 жыл бұрын
Exactltly, height in my eyes means nothing because in whatever position you are playing it's about passion, desire and having a winning mentality to do everything in your power to win the ball and keep it, if you work and strengthen your body you can use it to your advantage not just about height and wish people would stop it they not mentioned it about any other player but because its a united player all of a sudden its supposed to be a problem thankfully Martinez is already showing this bearing in mind only his 3rd game and getting used to the premiere league which is difficult for a player if not played in league before. Most of the best players in most teams are not that tall whether a striker, attacker, or defender cause its about how gifted you are that goes with everything else mentioned.

For sure. Martinez is the only new player who can be a leader because he knows EtH's system so well. I blame the players more at this point. United had a clear regression under LvG, but the way the players quit on Mourinho and Ole was a disgrace. They quit on Ragnick as soon as they figured out that he wasn't going to be the permanent manager. The players need to be more accountable, but unfortunately there aren't any senior players right now who can set the standard there.
@jimmycampbell782 жыл бұрын
“United had a clear regression under LvG” Bit harsh I feel. A lot of his signings didn’t work/were moved on by Mourinho: Rojo, Falcao, Schweinsteiger, Depay, Di Maria. But LVG gave Rashford his chance, made Lingard an England international and got the best out of Martial out of all of them. LVG won the FA Cup the day before he was sacked. At that time he was planning to sign Sadio Mane as well. A what if scenario you could ask yourself how Utd would have gone if LVG stayed beyond his second year and Mourinho did not join. I am not convinced LVG ‘regressed’ them. I think the owners saw Mourinho available and thought he guaranteed quick success.
@jimmycampbell782 жыл бұрын
I agree with the rest of your comments by the way, but think you should analyse LVG’s reign a bit more carefully- out of all the managers I think he is the one who can genuinely say he was harshly treated. Sacked the day after winning a trophy.
@uncreative57662 жыл бұрын
@@jimmycampbell78 Yeah, but continuing to play Jonny Evans? His back passes to defenders would've been goals had it not been for de Gea at his peak and world class. Even the Champions League group stage they played under LvG. Lost a shocker to PSV, (RIP Shaw's leg), but could muster only a tie at home against PSV and lost to Wolfsburg away in the final game of the group stage. They lost their Europa League first leg to Midtjylland only to turn it around at Old Trafford. Right when I thought United could salvage something out of the season, they lost to Tottenham in the final game at White Hart Lane. They crashed out of the Europa League against Liverpool. FA Cup win or not, LvG's tactics were side pass, side pass, Evans back pass, and fall asleep.

As much as I think it's too early to say anything now. I do expect impact from 50M+ signings sooner than 18 months. As someone following Ajax/ Premier League for years now, I'm not sure Antony for 80M+ will do anything... Ten Hag might overplay his hand with that signing
@nicknewman78482 жыл бұрын
@@joosthorskamp1736 Yes, there will be some impact from good players (Casemiro/Martinez) but a very high level of consistency in team performance and results is the key. The aim should be CL quarter finals at least and top 3 in the league every year. That's why I said one year and another transfer window.. followed by the time it takes for the new players next year to fully integrate. The new method has to become part of the culture and that will take time. The manager will also take a season to learn how different the PL is and he will make mistakes just like Pep and Klopp when they first arrived. It took Pep a season to figure it out and it took Klopp almost two. After they learned who they needed and who they could use they went on to reach very high levels. If Erik is competing with them by next season he will prove how fast a learner he is. He's already learnt that Fred is not a PL number 6 so that's a start. re Antony.. the price is too high (Man Utd tax) but it isn't relevant because Utd are wealthy. Ronaldo is leaving.. they need someone of a similar level to the remaining forwards to bring depth to the squad. It might not be the perfect first team signing but it will be a good squad signing because Utd are short of dynamic forwards. Next summer a 20+ goal scorer will be a priority.

I’m a fan of neither Man U or Liverpool. But the intense pressure on United compared to what Liverpool had in their lonnng barren spell is 100 fold. Mainly because social media has come along since then...look at what can happen to Maguire via twitter etc which would never have been possible in the 90s and 00s. Everyone is behind Ten Hag but the media will start pushing for him to be sacked as soon as they possibly can. No matter what happens this season the board and the players should be leaving before him. Whoever he needs to sell in that team Id back him over any single player, none should be untouchable now.

Even as a Liverpool fan I have total respect to Ten Hag for granting this interview. No matter what he says he’s on a hiding to nothing. This man has inherited a bloody nightmare. Only in 2 or 3 years time will we have any idea of his influence as a manager. The longer this mess at Old Trafford continues the harder it will be to turn back the ship. If they give this man the chance, Man U will be playing Champions League soon and will be serious contenders for the title, with attractive football to watch. If he manages, and I think he can, to reach top 4 this season it would be great, that means he can get just the few players he wants because they don't come If they don't qualify for Champions League. He has an immense task, but i'm afraid that if they don't qualify for Champions League place this year, they make the stupid mistake again. In the hardest competition in the world you need at least three years. If earlier, it would be nice, but you need to be honest, from were they are now, to compete with the top 6 for the first four places. You got to give him time. If they are smart, they give this man enough time and he delivers.

Very good interview from Ten Hag. It’s clear he has a plan and is ambitious whilst being realistic as to the arc of progress teams make. It took SAF a few years to build what he wanted. He first needs to add a blend of experience (Casimero, Eriksen) to add to Varane, Bruno and De Gea. Then add youth and pace with Antony, Malacia, gakpo etc and eventually replace the players in and around 30 with younger players, whilst the current young players become the leaders This looks like his plan, hopefully he is given time and new Owners. They are just questions Keegs. If no conversation is awkward at times, then it’s either brown nosing or boring chit chat. There were no disrespectful questions here, only your perception of them. If you’re offended by some of the questions, that’s your choice to be offended. They didn’t ask him, “why does your head look like a squashed orange?” See, that is a disrespectful question. Asking him “why didn’t the plan work?” is NOT disrespectful. The fans want to know, the people paying 1000’s of dollars a year to watch Man United want to know the answers to these questions too. We should be celebrating journalists actually asking tough questions. Not shaming them.
