Carrie is such a powerhouse -- but I think that the backup singer deserves a ton of credit for this performance...especially her harmony during the bridge. It provides enough tension that when she finally resolves the tension (around 2:51) spot on with the downbeat of the crash-cymbal -- THAT is what induces the chills. Give that part a listen so you can hear what I am talking about!

Of all the covers this is the only one that's really close to giving me that feeling when listening to the original. Especially at the beginning and right after the chorus is over and it was quiet again. It made me feel the vulnerability of truly believing that deep deep down I'm not good enough and at the same time that longing for the person's love and also truly seeing her as someone simply too good to be true, an angel.
@matthewtimmers32268 жыл бұрын

This is an amazing cover. It's so raw and emotional just like the original version but in a totally different way. Where the original felt(to me) that he was singing to certain people and expressing his longing to be a normal person this one feels like she's singing to a specific person and longing to be normal enough for that person to care about her.

It's been years since I first heard this but I always find myself back here again, and it's always such an amazing experience. The way Manolakos' voice shoots straight through all the other sound, while everything else builds up underneath is so amazing. The harmonies are so TIGHT, and beautiful, and beautifully controlled. Hell, the entire band has amazing synergy in how they bounce off each other! Everyone supporting everyone else until they all merge into this incredible song. And the ending! It feels like the most beautiful, bittersweet goodbye. The keys mixing with the clapping, it just gets to me. Wonderful work from everyone involved

The backup singer is absolutely the best part of this -- anyone can slam out a melody, but the gorgeous harmony is so spot-on... it's a dang shame she's not the focus of the entire piece
@HairFIip9 жыл бұрын
Well she is the "backup" singer... Her being the center/focus of attention would defeat the purpose. She's great, don't get me wrong, but she's not meant to "out perform" the lead.

Also I don't think 'anyone' could slam out THIS melody, did you hear how high she's singing?
