I remember when Carrie sang this song on American Idol and this was one of her best performances of the night. That's why people voted for her because they didn't care or listen to the judges. This is my second favorite performance from Carrie. The judges didn't like it because they liked Janis Joplin's better.

It's too hard to imagine "Piece Of My Heart" without Janis Joplin's powerhouse delivery. Carrie isn't Janis (but then, who is?). Carrie excels on the songs that were made for her. She's a Country Star. Janis will always be a Blues and Rock Legend.

This isnt a cover of Joplin's version, it's the Faith Hill version. Carrie could definitely do the Janis version though.

Faith Hill took a song of raw, painful emotion and gave it all the passion of a Vasoline smiling beauty contestant at a county fair.

The biggest problem here is you can't listen to this song without hearing Janis Joplin's version. This was a Country version and it just didn't match up. She redeemed herself with her version of Heart's Alone where she proved she could do Rock.

Haley was far better on this song and all around a better technical singer but Carrie has the prefect voice and twang for the country and pop country she does. When Carrie was on Idol she great looking but not sexy like she is now, while Haley may not be as pretty but far sexier and many women voters look for things to hater for because of it, while they may not even realize it.

This might be one of the reasons I was slightly biased against her vs. Bo Bice. I have always despised this upbeat version of Piece Of My Heart. It's not Carrie's fault, coming from her generations, but Faith Hill, as good as she is, ruined Janis' classic broken-heart blues song. It's not supposed to be happy damn it. But.... Carrie has made the most of her success on the show. I just hate this song.
