A walk through with captions and voice over to set up a replacement ABB drive in a Carrier RTU or AHU unit. The ABB ACH550 is almost identical to this except for maybe one parameter is different.

You sir are a saint! I just had trouble replacing this vrv with one ordered from carrier that was "preprogrammed" for my unit. It was not....and of course carrier wants you to talk to the local dealer for tech support and the local dealer goes straight to voicemail. Popped open your video and had the unit up and running in 10 minutes using the correct parameters for my 208v unit. I cant thank you enough this video was extremely helpful.

If it is for an RTU for 2 speed, they are NOT pre programmed. They need to be setup. But once you have done one then the next one(s) will go quickly.

Hi it’s giving me an alarm 2021 after I changed parameters, any idea what that might be

Should be a few pink wires jumped and the blue wire jumped. I am not at the diagrams to see which ones. But diagram should be in your unit. Also if you change from a ACS320 drive to a ACH550 or vice versa, the wires are landed on different terminal numbers. So keep that in mind when getting substitute drives.

show us how to do the remote screen for the vfd
@hackfreehvac7 ай бұрын
All you need for that is to remote the short ethernet coupler and use an ethernet cable. I originally had it connected like that but then I can not hold the VFD keypad panel stable as I film the key presses and navigation. Leaving the keypad panel on the drive made it easier to film.

Good idea many of us had very hard time programming these things Question how did you power that thing on the table?

I do have 240V outlets there in my garage however for testing I use a DC voltage doubler using a few diodes and a capacitor. Since the VFD actually runs on DC internally, you can just power it up on DC with a voltage doubler circuit from 120V AC. (Rectified power from 1/2 sine wave = 170V DC across the first capacitor then second have of sine wave goes in series with the first charged cap to equal over 300VDC to the VDC internal DC link (bus). It will even run to some degree depending on how beefy I make the voltage doubler. I have a voltage tripler as well that gets the voltage to nearly 500VDC so I can power up 460V VFD's just to see if they work, program them, etc I can also do the same thing to about any ECM motor. 👍

Except all those drivers are dead and bypassed 6 months after unit was installed

Sometimes. Doesn't look like Carrier will be selling any more VFD units on 20 ton or less now as they all come with ECM axial fans now.

@@hackfreehvac just make sure to slather the connection box and cables in sealant or they won't even last 6months and you can't bypass the ECM board. Have trashed too many Pabst ECM fans because of Installation error or UV damage to the seal.

@@FerdinandFake Are you in a humid area? We are pretty dry here except the monsoon season. So some issues on units seem to vary based on region. We have HEAT related failures around here. Not so much the water or corrosion.

I dont like your new voice tbh. Lol

The narration is the Microsoft One Note reading text to speech. Works great! I don't have patience to speak normal enough for this type of video. The brain and mouth are not fully synced! 😆
