@@travelhawk7895 Best is a relative term, it depends on what's important to the homeowner. I think for total lifetime cost of ownership, assuming acceptable performance (noise, heating/cooling ranges, etc), a single stage unit is often the lowest cost solution (depending on the home configuration, and insulation).

Those modulating gas valves that York/carrier/keeprite use, are terrible, plungers stick all the time, I show up and if don’t have the valve, tap the gas valve when igniter glowing, valve will,open.

The "keep it simple" comment, from an upfront and repair cost perspective, it probably correct. But people are spending $100k+ on Mercedes and BMW's and Tesla's, because they want the latest and greatest, all the high tech gear. When it works, it's great. When it doesn't, it's $$$$. I think it's a fair statement to say that they are costlier than less complicated solutions. But when they are working, they are probably working better. Just depends what tradeoff's you are willing to take.

Yep just spent 19 grand on most expensive carrier furnace and ac unit 220 a month for 10 hour and got a hot water tank install for free with 10 years of free service 2 times a year and 10 years free maintenance parts everything is sometimes goes wrong within 10 years it's free doesn't matter what it is plus my bills will go way down so I feel it's worth it

I don't understand the scramble for high tech, complicated, equipment. Though I know most people love gadgets and devices. But after 45 years installing and servicing furnaces of all makes, My motto is Keep It Simple. The more involved the equipment is, the more expensive it is to service & repair. Chance are greater it's gonna break down and I doubt very much anybody is gonna have your part on hand in they're van. There is very little difference in overall quality of any of the makes out there. When they're not maintained, they're gonna break down and Simple is worth its weight in gold.

@@simoncameron4355 The installation is pretty similar in all as the basic function hasn't evolved much over the years. But maintainable and cost of finicky parts, that operate great on the design bench and don't take into consideration dusty, dirty environments are crazy expensive. I used to be able to jumper out (bypass) a defective safety device until new can be obtained. Now the furnace detects that and will not work. Period. Plus all these parts are made so light and fragile, doesn't take much to make them fault. Like I say "keep it simple".

Dropped $14k for a Lenox System...furnace was great! Compressor went out on condensing unit 5-months after the 5-year warranty was up...$8900 to fix ended up getting a Daikin System $10k...probably the same damn Asian company own Carrier and Lenox!

Suggestion-Single stage is the way to go. If the better and best break down the parts cost a lot more and so does the labor. Keep it simple and cost effective. But there are other major companies that own many major brands. Do your homework and look for the best deal too. Lots of You Tube references that can teach you much too. All the best on your next furnance.

Our company installs the Bryant version of these but if it were my house I would go with the “preferred” version. Which is the 2 stage variable speed furnace.

Fairly sure even in CA, we can install 80% AFUE still. Some of us in existing homes cannot justify the added costs of the heater plus the added labor and materials cost to the roof exhaust design and then a condensate drain plumbing expense. Those 92% and higher features just do not make financial sense for a replacement unit. The state should be just as happy to get rid of the pollution that an old unit makes compared to a less expensive new unit that pollutes less by 10 times or more and is the choice most homeowners would want.

The more basic the unit, the less it costs to repair; of course the monthly bill would be higher. When it comes time to replace Infinity parts not under warranty, the prices for repair parts alone are outrageous. Pay me now or later... Carrier has it all covered.

Single stage everything. Word out there is a lot of the new systems are not built as well as older ones therefore, won't last 30 years as many have. Single stage is durable however, more noise although much less noise than a 1995 unit and more uneven heating and cooling than a two stage compressor because, as in the past or older units, single stage comes on with 100% of its capacity until the thermostat turns them off while two stage units will ramp up or down to the lower powered and less noisy speeds to maintain slight temperature loads which also take away hot and cold spots inside the home. Compressors in either category do not require maintenance however, the coils outside do require a look to be sure they aren't getting dirty with dirt, leaves and sometimes lint from clothes dryer exhaust ports that might be nearby the A/C unit. Bottom line, the "Good" one is the best value if you are not concerned with a little more noise and don't need to be spoiled with "perfect" heated or cooled air circulation. Those looking to save even more on gas and electricity costs will need to go with the two stage and variable stage units but they also come with more components to rely on.

Prices vary from state to state and it seems like I have been getting price increases daily now for the past month. A good ballpark price for a 60,000btu single stage furnace should cost around $4,000-$4,500 installed.

Hey Joe, great video! I bought a house for my daughter and I’m looking for a 40000 btu down flow furnace. It’s a small house, 1000s/f on a slab with the duct work in the slab. I found a new furnace model number 59SC5B040E1__12 . The manual says it can be installed in many configurations including down flow but the installer says no. Do you know if it can be? 59tp6 should be the middle furnace...also if you pay more for the carrier label you are nuts...buy Bryant it's the exact same unit with the same warranty for about 20% less...of course Carrier dealers won't tell you this

BDP company. Part of Carrier company stands for Bryant, Day&Night and Payne. They are almost identical, except for the cabinet color and logo label. The commercial equipment is a little different between BDP and Carrier. I would just go with a Bryant, Payne, or Day and Night, which ever is available in your part of the country. I’ve worked on all three, over a 30 year timeframe, and they are just as reliable as the Carrier version.

That was for a failing secondary heat exchanger on earlier 90 percent mvp and mvc models which is covered for 20 years parts and labor, these secondarys are like a trane secondary the cells are separated by metal fins they're pretty decent now had a few hiccups a few years back like pressure switches opening from the Inducer port being too small which could easily be drilled larger which it is on the newer models. Hate the clamps they use on the drain trap though
