Thanks for the great video. I have the same furnace. On a longer heat call, it seems like when it does need the high speed (after trying to achieve temp on low, then med) it kicks out after only about 1 minute on the high. Wondering if that pressure switch for the highest speed has gone bad and the others work as low/medium seems to be working fine. Also, had no idea that you could blow through pressure switches with your mouth like that. I thought they were too sensitive for that.

Code 42 means some type of communication error. Dont understand why water in the condensate trap will stop furnace from coming on
@maddrive7355

I also have this type of furnace 58MVB. My error code is 42, INDUCER MOTOR FAULT. To fix the problem I remove and empty the trap, then roll the paper towel into small q-tips and stick the end into the 3/8 hole of the black plastic chamber to remove condensate water. The paper towel wicks the water out which I repeat about 10 times. Now I put everything back to gether and it starts up every time.

I was working on a modulating Bryant gas furnace recently. Inducer was seized. Replaced it and now a bad gas valve not modulating with inducer. Replaced that. Found psi incoming to low causing problems with carbonizing burner tubes. What a money hog these things are. Not an easy part to change either. Very touchy and specific when it comes to pressures. Lp by the way. If 13.5 isn’t being supplied. It will never work. High fire 11 and low at 2. What a difference it made. Regulator and ambient dropped the psi to low. So take in acct on LP the colder it gets the lower ur pressure will be

lp at 11? overfired much? 10 is typically the maximum. Sounds like there should have been a LPCO installed ahead of the valve when it was converted to propane.

One nice thing Joe the customer can tune to your channel and see what you found and the corrections you made all the way in Florida. That is certainly a nice wi-fi set up you sold him. Glad you are feeling better. Stay warm.

One thing I've noticed about your jobs on Carrier furnaces is most, if not all of them are stained/rusted under the inducer. I've gone thru 3 inducers on my '08 Infinity furnace and all three inducers leaked out the bottom where the two casing sides are clipped together. I wonder if this is a widespread quality issue with Carrier inducers.

10:26 I had to live with this sound waking me up every morning for the last decade, except ours was twice as loud! Also had a super loud grinding/scraping noise during startup for a while, but got that fixed last year some time. Our furnace (Bryant Plus 90i) finally completely failed a month or so ago, in a super concerning series of events. It smelled really badly like burning plastic in the house, so we called the fire dept. No fire, but the furnace was unusually hot. Apparently, it was on, but no air came through the vents, so the thermostat upstairs kept calling for heat! The furnace was overheating as a result. All of this was caused by a burned out blower motor, hence the smell. Our walls were super hot around it. Fire dept. said there would have been a fire if we weren’t home! Got it replaced with Trane S9x2 and it’s so quiet we can barely hear it.

My 1997 Plus 90i has been grinding/chirping for a few years now. It's finally throwing the code 42 and probably is about to do something similar. Thankfully winter is almost over and I have furnace estimates taking place now. Good furnace...bad design on the inducer being connected to the control board (making it nearly impossible to replace the bearings). 😌

ECM inducer was a terrible idea on carrier’s part, one question “Why?” Normal ones pull like .15 amps are you really saving that much $$$$? Why reinvent the wheel 🤷‍♂️ just my thoughts

I have found over the years, that if the pressure switch gets wet, replace it. Just like the gas valve, these components are not made to get wet.

With that many cycles in 2 heating seasons, the furnace is more than likely oversized. I did some math using 6 months of daily heating, it's turning on at least every 8-10 minutes.

The company I work for deals in Lennox. I'm not thrilled with the usual 45 minute wait that I get when I call tech support the few times I call. On the other hand, I've had two different customers that have Carrier equipment where I've called tech support three times for communication problems with Infinity systems. I get an answering machine with Carrier and I've left the model numbers, serial numbers and all of the info they ask for. The first message I left was five months ago. Still waiting for a return call. Good thing it was an intermittent problem that would clear itself.

Carrier doesn’t have a tech support anymore you are supposed to call the local carrier dealer and they are supposed to have “service technicians” that take the place of tech support

@@Thatplumberguy1995 Well people should stop buying their products then. A real tech support is what is needed and nobody knows the system more than the ones who make them. Tech support can save a lot of time when you're someone who deals with dozens of different products and hundreds of different equipment and can't be a master of all.

There are some things you can do, like changing or cleaning the air filter or making sure your thermostat has good batteries in it. If you can get there safely, check to make sure the combustion ventilation pipes are kept free of ice and snow. Should you have the manual for your furnace, check it for any additional maintenance steps you can take. Test your furnace or air conditioner before the heating or cooling season begins. Don't shut too many registers, even if you have rooms you aren't using. And when either system is operating, pay attention to how they sound. A change in the sounds these systems make could indicate a need for service. Definitely do know your limits -- and when that time comes, call a trustworthy technician.
@dand3975

Shane, the main maintenance you can do is change the air filter, check the flame rod & clean, clean condensation trap in side furnace, and clean screen on air intake pipe at inlet to furnace.
