Despite how embarrassing it is to read all this stuff out loud, I’m so happy that I have these journal entries to look back on. I find it so incredible to be able to reflect on what I used to write about at such a young age, and it’s really interesting to watch how my handwriting, spelling, and grammar changed over the years!!

This why I love keeping diaries so much. It's like literally a day in your life, a memory, materialised into words. Frozen in time. Life then happens and you may forget all about the things you used to feel, but one day you decide to reread your old entries and is amazed by the things you've experienced. It's like a time capsule, so precious!

I'm just surprised at how aware of your emotions you were, especially with romantic feelings. For a 10 year old, that's pretty impressive. It might be because I was a child gay surrounded by heteronormativity, but I wasn't ever aware of any crushes until pretty recently, at 14. Listening to friends talking about crushes and 'relationships' they had in elementary school is such a strange experience for me, because I didn't have any of that. It's just interesting

I mean my first crush was in Year 5 (UK primary school years) on a girl called E######. Then, when I told her, she bullied me with her best friend at the time. Heteronormativity was everything in my years of primary school because there was NOBODY else gay or bi in any of my primary school years. A girl called L### started calling herself a lesbian (I was bi but everyone called me a lesbian -- bi-erasure) but it didn't last long. In year 7 I met many more people who were bi/gay/pan/non-binary/etc. and that influenced my comfort in telling people I was bi. But I was experiencing compulsory heterosexuality, (which is when a female person is mentally discouraged -- by experiencing assumed heterosexuality and heteronormativity -- from performing romantic interactions / having romantic thoughts about/with other females.)I'll link an article. Basically, my school went into Lockdown in January and I realized I was lesbian. Which was an extremely sensitive topic due to the bullying/compulsory heterosexuality. I came out to my friends in June (26th I think -- was meant to be 30th -- my friends read my notebook -- really upset me -- I cried) and they all supported me. I'm making great progress and I'm practically out to everyone I know (I go to a gay club at school, gay sticker on my phone, laptop, and pencil case I use every lesson!).

I also write in my diary almost every day. I started in July 2019 and I have finished 3 and a half journals already. I'm still writing one, 30 pages more and I finish it, and also I have a traveling journal in which I write every single day when I go on vacations, and I'm about to finish that one (and it started at the beginning of 2022!) lol I love that I'm not the only one that writes journals/diaries. (I also started when I was 12, writing like for real, I also used to write journals when I was little, but it would be too boring to read (like "today I ate peanut butter & jelly bread, and it was soo good. I then went to school and saw my friends...", like for me, that is kinda boring. and I would also get tired of writing that kind of stuff, so I would stop writing, then come back a few days later, so I don't remember what happened that day, so I write "I don't remember the rest" (IDRTR) lol🤣). so now, I write more "deeply", I guess is the word, I write about my emotions about everything, what I see, feel, hear...etc. I really like to write, it's fun. (I'm 14 years old now, btw. turn 15 in June).
