For Country Music fans! On her "Carroll Baker in Nashville" CBC 1981 Special, Canadian country music star Carroll Baker introduced celebrated Canadian-American Country music legend Hank Snow. Nicknamed The Yodelling Cowboy and The Singing Ranger, Hank was born in Nova Scotia where he endured extreme poverty, beatings and psychological abuse as well as physically punishing labour during the Great Depression. His ambition was to become a country singer like his idol Jimmie Rodgers and he succeeded, with numerous #1 hits in North America, including his compositions sung here I’ve Been Everywhere, I’m Moving On and Hello Love as well as gaining numerous Country Music Awards.
Hank Snow’s business partner was Tom Parker. Snow and Parker formed the management team, Hank Snow Attractions. A regular on the Grand Ole Opry, in 1954 Snow persuaded the directors to allow a young Elvis Presley to appear on stage. Then Snow used Presley as his opening act and introduced him to Tom Parker. The partnership signed a management contract with Presley but before long, Snow was out and Parker had full control over the rock singer's career. Snow called Parker “the most egotistical, obnoxious human being I've ever had dealings with.”
Another Canadian country and western singer was Wilf Carter “the father of Canadian Country Music,” was also born in Nova Scotia. In the US he was called Montana Slim or The Yodelling Cowboy.
Also born in Nova Scotia, Canada’s First Lady of Country Music Carroll Baker between 1970 and 1982 released 31 consecutive charting singles. Twelve of these reached the top of the Canadian charts! Check out the previous two excerpts from her Nashville Special on this st40tv site, one with The Oak Ridge Boys and the other with Conway Twitty and Larry Gatlin & the Gatlin Brothers.

Hank was the best and I miss him so much. I became a fan the first time I ever heard his voice back in 1952. And I was so fortunate the get to know him and his wonderful wife, Min, in later years and I miss them both.

I remember going to see a concert in Kentville, with these two singers when they went on tour together in Nova Scotia in the early 80's. I was around 8 or 9 at the time. I remember that the tickets were free at all Irving Stations with a fill up. lol

Did Mr snow ever support any charity to help struggling artist in Nashville. Ask His son Jimmy Rogers Snow. I followed Mr. Snow when HE was a relatively unknown singer. I have enjoyed his music longer than you have been alive.I. have no disrespect for Mr. Snow. BY THE WAY THE HARDEST THING IN MUSIC IS NOT TO SING BUT TO WRITE A SUCCESSFUL HIT SONG.I HAVE WRITTEN MANY SONGS AND SANG MANY MORE. I AM STILL WRITING AND WAITING. MY FRIEND RAY BAKER WAS GONE FOR MANY YEARS BEFORE JOHNNY CASH RECORDED "WHEN I HAVE LEARNED " RAY NEVER LIVED TO HEAR MR. CASH SING HIS SONG BUT RAY S SON AND HIS DAUGHTER AND HIS WIFE DID.

@@lesslisilverman I was in the music business out of my hometown of Nashville first as a roadie and retired on the booking end after forty years, My job was going into the towns and cities and putting up posters and flyers and records to DJs about who was appearing this was before fax machines and computers, Around music row it was general knowledge the HANK was extremely tight with his money as was WEBB PIERCE WAS FREE HEARTED WITH HIS, Webb and wildman RAY STEVENS had a small feud about fans wanting to see WEBBs guitar-shaped swimming pool but RAY said fans were on his property and he wanted it to stop and WEBB told RAY to kiss his ass cause his fans bought that swimming pool by buying his records and he wasn't going to treat them bad, I think it was JUSTIN TUBB that said after a show in OHIO all the acts went to a restaurant to eat it was BILL ANDERSON, LEFTY FRIZELL LITTLE JIMMY DICKINS and other acts except one star went to a little store and got crackers and bologna and a coke and it was HANK SNOW, HANK wasnt a drinking man and EARNEST TUBB was known to be a crazy man when he drank whiskey and if HANK was around he would in the words of cousin ozwald would disappear like a fart in the wind, But all in all HANK SNOW was a real down to earth man and was known for never saying anything bad about another star and was always staying to the last fan had his autograph, RIP HANK

@@andymurray7240 Yes, it’s funny how life treats people, some good and some not so good. But you know every one has their own row to hoe. And Hank made lemon aide out of sour lemons. I think you’ll find a lot of these early singing voices had rough beginnings.,,,,Johnny Cash,,ElvisPresley,,Slim Whitman, Dolly Parton,,Loretta Lynn, etc. I am sure there are many more,,,,,,,

@@karenstrock4470 That's right! It couldn't have been easy for many of these stars coming up in the ranks back in the day. I read Hank's personal story & I have an audio tape of him telling it, also. Not an easy beginning, by any means. But to see where he ended up? Amazing he could even do that! Been following Hank & Ernest for years, love them both. 💝
