📜 Video Description 📜
James Shea was breaking even and frustratedly bouncing from coach to coach before he discovered why he wasn't winning. In this video James explains how he became one of the strongest players at Carrot Corner and analyses a couple of hands which illustrate spots where many regs make some really big mistakes and where he himself would go wrong before fixing his game.

The AKo on 962r hand, it's not true that a small bet doesn't lose EV in theory if you're playing one size. If you look in a solver the EV difference is pretty clear. It's a particularly bad sizing for your 9x and weaker overpairs that now deny very little equity, and villain punishes you by simply almost never folding (James quoted around 10% folds in the video & that's on the money) and realizing more equity. It's a nice sizing for your specific hand, though.

yeah this is a flop where 2/3 or X is pretty easy to play with every hand but AK and AQ. you dont really feel like going so big but also dont like checking

What villain has at a showdown in the last hand? Did hero call it or what?

in the first hand you were saying that a jack is a pure raise in theory but in the solver no ten is raising and not every jack is raising vs block block, seems mandatory in real life though. youre killing us with the missing showdowns :( james seems like a great coach with so much poker experience and turning it around for the better, interested to see more of him

Fuck the solver. Villains bet on the Turn is so weak, it looks like a steal. Raising him to pot or slight overbet makes total sense to me to push him around. The stacks are deep enough to 3bet bluff for more information. We have a ton of trapped sets that might want to reraise to defend against the flushdraw, we block AJ so we can at least rep that hand also. If villain really had a J in his range here I expect him to bet 66-75% pot to punish any backdoors that might want to see a river. More often than not people just don't have it imo

Ive been struggling for a year now. I couldnt beat 5nl on bovada/ignition at all. I switched to acr this week and im happy to say, my aces full dont run in to quads every other hand i play on acr. Ive actually won 6bb/100 over 12k hands, where my graph was straight down over on ignition, despite everyone saying ACR has harder games by far.

Theres your problem. Your sample size. 12k hands is nothing

@henry700 hey man. what do you mean? I feel like ive never had a winning sample of even 10 hands on bovada lmao I know variance is a bitch and 12k isnt alot of volume to go by, but ACR literally feels like I'm playing an entirely different game than what I seen on ignition. Ignition almost every hand was an absolute clusterfuck that left me scratching my head wondering wtf is happening right now. Maybe I did just switch over and sunrun, or maybe I lost confidence in the casino and perhaps that was mentally affecting my play as well.

@@idzoavitsi4211I have an understudied poker friend and he has $1600 at NL25 over 40k hands. I’ve ran $100 up to $4300 my first time ever playing online. Currently at 4bb/100 over 120k hands. All on ignition. You just ran bad

Wondering if this course is something that will help me with the study. I’m learning theory and now stuck in the phase that my game is worse then before. (Because I often misapply my new strategies.

Yep fixing this common issue was one of James’ primary motivations for creating running this course. It’s one thing to have strengthened your theory but it’s a whole other journey learning how to translate that into clicking the highest EV buttons at the table in the real world where one line is very often much better than the other. The Fortress is best for players who have some theory but haven’t figured out how to win yet.
