I love the black and white Carry Ons.

The first and in my humble opinion one of the best. Most of these actors saw service in WW2 or did national service so marching and drilling was just a matter of brushing up their skills.

Less farcical than later ones.

Saw a bio on Monty. He accepted the surrender of all German forces in Northern Germany and Denmark. The German delegation of Generals stood in formation when Monty showed. He said, "Who are you?" , they gave their name and rank. He paused for a moment and then said, "Never heard of you." He repeated that process for every one of them.

that was very stupid. he was lucky not to receive a hard blow in his arrogant face before, during the war.

You can't beat class, they got away with so much innuendo. How ever cheap the films were made they still had the best slapstick actor's and actresses in the business. ;-). They couldn't make them these days, B-)

Saw this movie Carry on Sargentant just after doing national service at Wacol QLD1956. I thought they must have been watching us. We had some of strangest characters in the platoon by the way it was Charlie Company - Medical platoon. It was LOL....

When I first saw this movie, I swore I'd seen it before. I believe it was remade in the 1980s as "STRIPES" with Warren Oates as the cranky drill sergrant. Funny thing... at times, Kenneth Connor reminds me of Sylvester McCoy. I wonder if they might be distantly related?

He was always typecast short-back-and-sides manger, criminal or soldier. That was until Dr Who which was different and he rose to the role admirably and that is why he will always be the best one although I also like some of the others.

I was looking for the medical when the candidates are being recruited. Start by teaching the recruit not to challenge but accept the lolly stick goes into the underpants then into the mouth and is then discarded.

This first carry on has a serious point to make - end of war and blokes did not need punishment that would not be permitted in peacetime work. Still shouting at people at work was not going to work in work after WW2.
