Is your back wheel bent in on your trailer on the drivers side or is it an optical illusion , I noticed it at the beginning of the video and you can really see it better at ( 11:01 ) ?

I purchased a 5x8 CarryOn from Northern Tool years ago. Holding up to the weather. No rust or any blemishes on paint. Dont no as to why people knock on CarryOn quality.

And T, never shorten your chains, just grab a chain in your right hand by the clasp at the end twist it clockwise, it will make the chain taught. Try it and make sure you always cross your chains . Bryan

Update: I bought the Carry On 5xSPW-GEN trailer this morning. I happened to look on the Tractor Supply website late last night/early this morning and it showed this unit was in stock. I took a trip and they had 3 of these trailers. There are some differences between the new and old version. The new unit comes with the deck wood installed, the gate matches the height of the wood and the gate closes flat onto the trailer now. It also has 13" wheels vs 12". The side frames are no longer welded and are bolted together; don't know how this will hold up, but as a weekend warrior this was a good price point for me. They had all the accessories needed, so no store to store visits. There were no chipped paint or rust spots like the one in this video. It looks pretty good at the moment.

@@starastronomer I just went over the entire trailer and checked all screws, bolts and wiring. Below are the differences I noticed between the Gen1 and Gen2 5x8 trailer with 2x8 boards. There could be other subtle changes. - Gen2 costs more. - has a handle on the coupler tube where you can grab and move the trailer around or lift it on/off the ball. - The welds looks a whole lot better than what I've seen folks post on the older version. - Trailer is secured mostly by bolts now with less welds. Guess they got tired of hearing about crappy welds (not sure if the Gen1 equivalent was all weld or combo of weld and bolts). - The trailer is powder coated vs spray paint. - The wiring is hidden (enclosed) in the frame tubing and can not be seen. - The ramp/gate no longer have the same hinges as the older version. The ramp have pivot bolts at the end on both sides of the gate where it rotates on and sits higher. - The ramp/gate folds completely flat onto the bed. - There are two iron bars on the ramp/gate.vs three on old version. - It comes with the tail light protectors (can't tell if Gen1 has these or not). - It has different style side markers built into the frame.

Glad that it was resolved amicably. You're a good person for not causing fuss for still a rusty frame. I own a TS 4x7 myself and bought it some 12 years ago. They used to make a better product then.

Thanks Aamir. Not surprised your trailer built years ago is built better. As time goes on many things get made more cheaply as the cost goes up.

Informative video bringing problems to light. I just bought a Carry-on 4X6G and the tongue vibrates and makes a lot of noise. It is not tight; it wiggles. The bolts that connect the tongue to the trailer frame are horizontal and the trailer moves up and down with enough play to make it annoying. Is there a fix for this? Thank you

LEO ONEIL Is the "play" in the connector to the ball hitch? Not quite sure where you are talking about. Looks like issues are an ongoing problem, NOT GOOD. Thanks for your input.

I spoke with a Carry On representative during my research because I was seeing mixed descriptions about the coupler size and was told that all of the new trailers will have 2" couplers and they will no longer ship with 1-7/8 couplers. Based on you conversation with Carry On, they never shipped a new unit. So the fact that it was not put together kind of makes since because they had one sitting at the store just rusting away and gave it to you. The new models are made differently now...better or worse who knows at this time.

Methodical2 I love the 2" coupler size. Now I only need to keep one ball size with me. A great improvement. Hopefully time will tell how the new trailers are.

The looseness is not at the ball hitch. It is where the trailer's tongue connects to the middle body of the trailer. It is connected with two bolts that are parallel to the ground and the trailer wiggles up and down. It has about 1/4" of play but it is enough to make a lot of noise. If they both were connected securely I would not think it COULD move.

Okay LEO ONEIL. I would definitely see if it can be tightened or returned for a trailer that does not do that. That is not good.

Thank you for the video and hope you are satisfied with your replacement trailer. Your review its highly appreciated and satisfied made me learn a lot. From both trailers, I bought one 5x8 from tractor suply. I haven't measured it yet. Because bought it before reviewing your videos, what I was worried about its about the trailer bar. That has only 2 bolts 🔩 🔩 , and I looked them. The bracket seams to be light but should be strong enough to haul 1600lbs. And should be rated. What I'm going to do just going to add some extra washer and put some extra torque to make strong Because its little wiggle, again thank you very much

MR AJJ THANKS! I would check it out to make sure it is properly aligned. I am very happy with the replacement trailer. Only two (2) bolts on my trailer bar also. Putting washers would be a good idea as that is what I did to mine.

It is what it is. This is the expected quality and once you know it, you know how to deal with it. I will get a few cans of the Rust Oleum paint when I get mine. The trailer I plan to purchase comes with the decking boards and is a little different than the older version. Its so hard to find trailers these days that you pretty much have to get what you can get. I don't need more than a 5x8 (5x7 would be perfect though) and will be a doing light duty towing. So, these will have to fit the bill. I am not interested in buying used since it is my first trailer. All stickers come off. No free advertisement.

Well T, I will give you my input. I also have this same trailer from TSC. It is a complete piece of crap. Yes it does haul, but the quality is so horrible, you cannot imagine. I also had the same questions about the paint, so I sanded it down, and painted it myself. The chicken wire is so weak, don't think about putting any weight on it. But yes it does do the job, and yes it was cheap. But in the end, I would have paid double for a better trailer and never thought twice about it. I guess, I should have made a video brother and could maybe of saved you some grief.

Bryan B I agree. As to the "chicken wire" I put a piece of 3/8" plywood down if required to get a better base. Will see how well the paint holds up. I am going to prime and pant the areas that are rusted now. At least I have a tongue on center now :)
